Title: Universal Language?

The way I understand it (and I experienced telepathy briefly while working with Edi and Mayatnik) a 'feeling' is put into your head, and you convert it into words on your own. It feels like something just 'unnaturally' entered your head, but it doesn't feel uncomfortable or wrong.. It was an interesting experience, though I had some trouble deciphering the feelings.

The best language would be a language that is completly new.

This language would be specifically designed as a simple language.

The only universal language I know of really isn't a language at all.  All it consists of is thoughts and emotions.  There is no need for words persay because you speak more with feelings.  It is used on higher planes.  It is kind of hard to describe it precisely using any language.  This form of communication transcends all known languages here on earth.

There is a universal language....it's called Binary [:)]

Binary is that crazy 011010101010100110101010101010 pattern you see in computer flicks and what-not.  Everything stands for something.

0 1 0 0 1  1  0  1   0
1 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256

That PROBABLY won't come out right, but you get the idea.  Binary adds to every single possible number.  If you add all those together, you only get 511.  To get 512, you have to make a new number, and that would eventually turn out to be 0000000001.

NOW... every single number in binary is SOMETHING!  I don't know the entire list, but there's a coolness site that will do it for you :)

Telepathy is the universal language. If a universal language didnt already exist, you can be sure Humans wont invent one thats accepted universally. We cant even agree on 1 language on this spec of dust in the universe we call a planet. All our languages are stupid. They have multiple words that mean the same thing and multiple defintions for most words. Many words contain letters that have no purpose because they are silent. We have words with more than 10 letters when there are lots of unused 5 letter combinations.

Logic, you're not using enough vowels. Some letters cant be pronounced together (ikw, mn). Trylo, marlp, zweft, glekt, and nushr would be good words.

Here's an other complaint about english: K and S can make any sound C can make, so C is a useless letter. Q, X, and Y's "ee" sound are also useless. No letter should have more than 1 sound. How much acid would somebody have to be tripping before they're making a language and think it would be a good idea to add extra letters that make the same sounds as the existing letters?


squeek, binary is not universeal. I'm sure there are some galaxies that have never heard of it. If they have computers, they might operate in 17 states instead of 2.

Characters (8 1s or 0s) only have a text translation if their decimal number is < 128. All these should have no conversion, but they do, so that website is full of crap.

A binary number converted to decimal should have 30.103% number of digits.

256 bit - 77 digits
1024 bit - 308 digits

But we have ways of getting big numbers without using so many digits, based on scientific notation. We can get a number like 5.732423434854365 * 10^308 with just 64 bits.

Just a quick post before I get too in depth working on one of my projects.

I have spent many many hours over the years trying to develop a system that would replace languages for simplicity and complexity at the same time. If you would like to help motivate me to get back on it's track, I will do so and have the body of Astral Pulse continue where I've left off.

Before I do that, and before you go blindly jumping into it, I will tell you how I went about developing the basic groundwork. I spent many nights going over what was wrong with the 2 languages I knew well enough (and other different languages that I pretty much knew how they worked) to make an educated leap in the direction of what a good language for me and possibly others would look like. It resulted in an "alphabet", a detailed system of rules that all but eliminated ability to misinterpret what you're reading from a distance and other such nuances, a temporary "compressed" binary number system (coming up with a good replacement system for this is where I stopped), and a good idea of where I wanted to go next.

All that was really left for it to become workable on the internet still remains; I haven't worked on it for about 2-3 years now. These things are: vocabulary, phonetics, refinement for some structure and complex rules (especially adaptation for computers!), and a user base.

Given this, would anyone like me to go more in depth as to what I have? This may be an interesting project that could unite some people here in ways that we haven't seen before. All I wish is to emphasize is the following: applying structure from current linguistic studies for the sole purpose of including it will not be included! I'd also like to have strong say in what goes on it, but I would also like everyone else to have the same power, sorta [}:)]

I think that latin actually can be taken as a univesal language. In astral...i guess no...but if any of the languges used on earth would suit to astral it would definatly be latin.

Ok, can we get more in touch with what is trying to be done here? I think the term "universal language" is bad, even though subtley, and should be reworded..."The Language of the People on Earth", or more easily "Human's Speak", just because something on this level doesn't need to be half-hearted.

Now as for Latin, I love how it sounds, but a lot of people would admit that the rules necessary to learn it are pretty vast. Can't we take a note from Esperanto and other similar ideas that rules for general concepts such as nouns and verbs should be identical? Nouns always have an -o at the end, are always pluraled with -j, and that's it. I always liked that concept. But I say again, Latin is much too complicated for everyone on Earth to learn. Way way way too complicated; won't work.

The structure of latin is difficult, yes. But to make a new language...Why? We already have esperanto, don't we? And who speaks it? I'd prefer latin, but if the sound of latin doesn't way up it's colmplicated structure, then maybe one of tolkien's languages (Sindarin for example, where from my name is also taken) does? They sure sound even more cool than latin. Or what?

Esperanto is becoming more widely accepted every day, but I don't like it in many ways. I think we should take a step in that direction, but there is a lot to be desired when you think about some of the Esperanto structure. For instance "J" and "I" sound identical, so you have to figure out which is which based on what you know. Not good. Another thing, there are 28 total letters, of which 4 have accents (and one is actually upside down on the accent and totally not a normal letter you'd expect at all). The way they abbreviate the accents in ascii is to add an x after the letter, so it makes it even more complicated just to get some of these rules in your mind. However, some of the structures in Esperanto I really truly like, such as the prefixes and suffixes; genius.

You can pick and choose things that don't make sense in any language; Japan for instance has 3 different languages all together, all eastern based languages sans Korean require learning several thousand different symbols, Russian looks like some kind of wierd mathabet soup, English has so many rules that there really aren't many at all, French has enough silent letters to keep me quiet for a while, Spanish has quite a vocabulary and not enough prefixes and suffixes, and all of those languages have enough gender cases to have an orgy (well cept English)!

What I suggest is pulling a Robert Bruce on the entire spoken/written language system, and figure out something that is based on experiences, intuition, logic, and the will to advance. Can we make how we communicate easier? Can we teach people to talk faster from birth? Can we increase the potential of someone's mind by freeing their thoughts from looking for the right word sometimes? Can we change how people learn by making areas of discussion more sensical and less taboo on some levels? Can we...?

I'll create a thread regarding my basis for a new language though. I shouldn't care about failure anyways, as I just feel something needs to be fixed...

I think I'm happy speaking one language. English. that'll do :-).
Telepathy-I understand it isn't exactly universal as it can occur on different levels and many beings don't have access to all levels of telepathy. I'm using "levels" in a rough way. i.e emotional, mental, conceptual etc. Hard to talk to a being who's never seen electromagnetic radiation but lives in a universe that has a different set  of forces.
I'd say more but I'm doing something else here too :-). and I'm lazy.

Now i'm so sure i've posted on this thread before. So has this thread been shortened or was there a familiar thread?, if not i must have been dreaming.

I believe I said somthing like the following on this thread or a familiar one.

I recently conducted an interview with the music group Particle and when I was speaking to the guitar player he started speaking about music as a universal language, and I agree.  Consider your experience.  Does any one have any thoughts to share on this?

I conducted another interview, this time with the percussionist of Sound Tribe Sector 9, and I asked what he thought about the idea that music is a universal language, and he said that he absolutely agreed.  

I think that anything that can be understood by people who speak different laguages can be considered universal, in a sense.  Something like a smile can be understood.  Music can be listened to by anyone.  I suppose a universal language takes each individual being able to understand it.  But if it's universal then it is present whether people are capable of paying attention to it or not.
