I've been thinking about fear lately (morbid topic, I know), and I just wanted some other people's opinions on it. Some of the things that crossed my mind:
1) Who is more afraid of dying, men or women?
2)What are people most afraid of? Dying is a common one, what about others?
3) Religion and fear. Why breed fear into worship? Isn't that kind of the opposite of what you want to do?
4) Why are so many people afraid of dying; whats so scary about it?
I find it an interesting subject and would like to hear what the rest of you think about it.

I don't know enough to comment on the other ones, but for this one, I just had a thought.  People may not always be afraid of their own death, but its consequence to those who depend on them.  For example, a spiritually advanced or otherwise cool headed person may not be scared of their own death, but may be scared of what would happen to their young children after their death.

well for starters if you believe in reincarnation some people might of died tragicly in past lives and instead of connecting to the cause their body instinctively relates it to death ( subconscious level of thought). Other people aren't afraid of dying either they are afraid of the pain you might experience or no longer being there for others in need. Just to add my thought on death I believe the only time when you truly live is when you die just a little interesting quote that I live by. In some ways both sexes are afraid of death for a numerous amount of reason some feeling like the main supporter of the family and provides the money for everything or they just haven't felt like they have done to little in there life.

I believe in reincarnation which makes it easy for me not to fear death but now that I am a mom and my ex is abusive I do fear dying and him getting the kids. I feel that as long as I am here I can protect them from him.

Most of my fears stem around parenthood. I fear other people harming them, I fear not having enough money to feed them, I fear not finding a place to live because I don't want to be a homeless mom.

When I wasn't a mom I wasn't very fearful at all. Still even where reincarnation is considered this is still the only life you live in your current body and in your current situation in life.

This is very interesting topic.

There's only one thing that I am afriad of: my own nature, and I have reasons to be afraid of this. All other things, like death, accidents, etc. don't scare me at all. I think that most harmful fear is fear of unknown, this forces people to hate people of other races, religions. Also very harmful is the fear of death. It is sad, how easily people can be forced to do horrible things, when their life is endangered.

Fear makes people easier to control. It also causes aggresion, that can be controlled by religious and political leaders. It also makes it easier to spread lies....

The fear is the strongest feeling, because it was most needed in the nature. Racism is too about fear, and hate is only an effect of it. The origins of racism are not logical or culture-based, but genetical. It exist not only in humans, but also most kinds of animals living in groups too.

I think for a lot of people it's not death itself they fear, more the discomfort of the passing process, or probably more likely, the fear of leaving this life behind. The people, the memories etc. After going through so much (in a lot of cases at least) in life, it's not easy to just seemingly let it all go.
