Should the Karma System be removed from the board?

No

Stookie

So it shows up under "most recent posts"

BUMP!

Naykid

Yeah, I guess I didn't need to have it sticky, but just bump it everyday.  Is next Wednesday a good time to call it valid?

/smites nay for dissing the karma system :-P

Just kidding.

I dont really care but I voted to get rid of it. It's rare I even look at my karma tbh. Years ago there was a period where I was a bit of a rep whore on some other forums - I was always thinking of what I could post to get positive rep. I suppose in that respect it could be good for a community as its encouraging people to post stuff others will appreciate. I ended up getting a stupidly high rep score and being given admin on the server but it wasnt healthy. My motives were all wrong and I should have been spending my time more constructvely.

If you care too much and stoke your ego with your score then its not healthy. If people smiting you is causing you stress then it's not healthy. If you dont really care then you wont miss it. So I vote to get rid.

personalreality

be awesome.

It's sad that at my age I still haven't rid myself of a few issues stemming from childhood and being judged is a one.   I hope we can get rid of it.

No time like the present to start!
Self-improvement doesn't stop just because we become ancient.  :)

>_>  *hides*  ^_^

Naykid

I don't mind being ancient.  :-D  And believe me, I'm pretty self aware.

I was making the point that some times we can't help how we feel or think certain ways, even when we know it isn't logical or helpful.

blis

How about using the space to show users locations?

I like being able to see where people are from.

personalreality

good call blis.

so far our poll doesn't seem to be drastic enough to justify getting rid of the system.   :-(

Vote to Get Rid of Karma!
be awesome.

Naykid

The majority should be heard regardless of how many felt it necessary to vote.

Naykid

So, what happened to the post where the guy said he said No on accident?  And then you, Xanth, said we could just take a no away put it towards yes?  Why are those posts missing?

Down with the Karma system!!!

A few days ago when we had the "white screen" crash again... Adrian had to roll back to the most recent daily backup, so we had lost roughly 10 hours of posts.  That was one of them.

Taoistguy

So do I get to vote again? It doesn't seem to let me. :|

I edited the poll that you can change your vote.
See if it'll allow you to change it now?

Taoistguy

Yes. Done it. Thanks. :)

Naykid

Geez, now people can change their vote after they already made the decision??  Nice, the fairness factor just rose by a hundred..

Democracy in action! ;)

I hope the wink means your comment is tongue in cheek.. because democracy doesn't include being able to change your mind later.

personalreality

since when?!

that totally ruins my political philosophy.

bump
be awesome.

CFTraveler

I change my political choices every four years, sometimes more often.

Naykid

I meant in the sense that I can't go vote for Mr. X. and then turn around the next day and say, Um...I changed my mind and change my ballet.  Of course you can change your mind between elections. I'm not that ignorant.  Geez guys.

But this does remind me of the whole buying votes issue in the real world.

personalreality

I was just kidding.  I know what you meant.

Bump.
be awesome.
