You would think the church has bigger work to do than invalidate a sick girl's Communion. Who appointed the wheat so holy?

Actually I found the article very enlightening from a personal perspective. The reason for this was it reminded me of my 1st communion, and while not a torrid public affair like the one Runlola has posted about – in its own right it was a harrowing experience for a small boy at the time to go through.

In my case I was yelled at by a large ominous figure of a Monsignor. This apparently occurred as I had forgotten or had not been told (by the blessed nuns) and had simply become dumbstruck when about to receive the Eucharistic wafer!

On reading the thread and as memory flooded back to mind: bile held back for decades simply rose to my throat! Put simply I (a child) had been made to look like a trembling fool by an ignorant bully. In fact it nearly bought tears to my eyes!  Needless to say now I do actually forgive the individual in question as he was a product of his times.

Yet I am utterly gob smacked that the Church could still allow Dickensian insensitivity to be practiced by its representatives in the new millennium.

I for one wholeheartedly applaud whoever had the courage to foist the story (quoted above) into the public domain! Respect we are not talking about the inquisition here, but should this sort petty doings not be stamped out once and forever?

Sorry if my spin on this offends - however I was very, very tempted to use extremely bitter sentiment as I found the visit to the rekindled thoughts quite harrowing (call me soft if you like) [}:)][]

Speaking of harrowing...

No offense taken. Call me a little soft hearted too. A Monsignor was intrumental in getting my kidnapped 3 year old daughter back for me. I'm not Catholic, but yet this Monsignor came through to me with instuctions on when,where and how to get my daughter back after she had been missing for a week.

I'm not Catholic, nor did I even know specifically what a Monsignor represents in the Catholic Church at the time (still don't[]). I never met this priest and he may not have known he had done this for me.I will always be grateful!

Deeply sorry that your family had to suffer such a truly harrowing ordeal!

I can't begin to imagine what it must to have one's child go missing let alone be kidnapped, but more than pleased that your little one was happily reunited due to instrumental assistance of a good Monsignor. I pray that is something that you have been able to put behind you?

I read about the same thing on CBS news today!The insane are running the asylums! The sick are trying to gain control the governments,churches are targeted as well. I say let the church take care of the sick (if they want).They know more!

Getting public opinion is a ploy toward control by politically correct means. A wheat wafer stands between this child and God! Hah! It's more about trying to control the church,and to get attention (15 minutes of fame).

It reminds me that there is evil in this world!

Take the Holistic approach (micrograms of wheat).  Take the symbolic approach (wafer with a picture of wheat).  Take the practical approach, a priest that won't blab.

So....this mother thinks by going public it's going to change things? All she has done is offend many of God's main people here. Maybe if she wasn't so wicked hungry for attention, her daughter wouldn't have celiac disease in the first place.

If it was me, I would kick this woman out of the church. She's TROUBLE.

The public is secular. Church policy can be changed through this method?  Doubtful. I don't see a big stir for the plight of celiac victims on the horizon.

The public is sympathetic...for a short time, then a new story hits.

You know what I find funny about this is when I was about 11 yrs old... I asked one the the nuns at school 'why is the host thing not made of bread?'... Quietly Sister Mary Whatsit whispered in my ear 'we make them, and the ones we prepare are made of rice...plz in the name of sweet Jesus, Mary and Joseph for heaven's sake don't tell the priests'! I kinda think you know what this was about, EOL007.The letter of the law and the spirit of the law in harmony, of course! SWEET![]

In the mean time, I see this mother is on a tv talk show now, by what I read on today's CBS link.She doesn't look very friendly (seeing her picture close up).I missed seeing her on tv. I bet a lot of sympathy for this poor child (ploy).And I bet she's really working the audience.

Will the person die if they eat wheat.  If they were so religious to care about it so much then why not just eat the wheat if it's not life threatening then they can all be happy.  Because we all now priests care more about little boys than little girls,
