Is it possible to have a LD without total control?

I have an LD about once every four months, so I'm not an authority on the subject. http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile.gif" border=0>

Once you realize you're dreaming, there's still a continuum from being along for the ride and having complete control of your reality. Also, the "quality" of your consciousness, memory of waking life is greatly variable. (Try remembering the date or doing math problems! Even remembering  try and remember the date can be a problem. http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile.gif" border=0>)

During an LD I tend to have some control over where I'm walking/flying, who I talk to, and what I say. I always have trouble changing the landscape though. I can't make tables levitate and disappear and stuff like that. Also, odd things happen that I don't intend to. When I grab onto things they stretch, etc.

You know you can breath under water right?
This happened to me in a lucid dream where I fell into a swimming pool fully clothed and sank like a rock.
I thought "Wait. This is a dream." So I walked around the bottom of the pool breathing as normal.
"Lucid" just means conscious. A dream where you know you're dreaming. It doesn't necessarily mean you have total control over your subconsious dreaming mind.
Few people do. If any.

But you can improve your control with practice! There are free resources on the web, and many, many books.

Hi Jeni,
Yes, I have them frequently ... I'm working on getting better control.

As to your experience, here's the KICKER.  Your subconscious mind (SCM) can only think in the positive.  Since you thought "I do not want to fly over any water, because I do not want to lose control and drown" ... your SCM has to think of that "not wanting experience" in terms of 1st experiencing "flying over water" and "drowning", in order to not DO THAT.

So, you actually exibited CONTROL over your dream ... you manifested what you did not want to manifest.  BTW, manifestation occurs more quickly when EMOTION is behind the THOUGHTS.  Emotion is fuel for thought.

Cheers!

It is easy for the momentum of the dream to prevent making changes or using your ability to control events. This is because it is unusual to practice maintaining your awareness and sense of self in waking experience. If the momentum of your dreams is getting away from you even after you are lucid, it is likely that you can change that by practicing presence in waking life and not just going with the flow of events.

Hello everyone,

I had an LD the other night in which I was flying around outside of a house. I remember becoming lucid in the middle of a regular dream, and that I became lucid after I left the house.

I decided I wanted to fly around, so I did. I remember thinking to myself "OK, I do not want to fly over any water, because I do not want to lose control and drown". As soon as I thought that, a big body of water appeared below me. I remember being scared because I did not have total control of my dream; in fact it did the opposite of what I wanted it to (I even woke up a little scared).

Is it possible to have a LD in which you don't have total control?

Thank you very much,

Jeni
