Sounds like your friend is experiencing what Robert Bruce calls, Dweller on the Threshold.  It is another aspect of the natural barrier that fear creates.  It can happen in many variations, but is usually a combination of things.  Immediately after exit, you find a shadowy, menacing humanoid shape, that may just stand there or it may take a few steps forward and make threatening gestures.  Robert goes on to say, it may threaten you with doom and gloom if you continue with your projection, but the classic dweller monster never attacks or harms a projector.  He (RB) has not had a single report of a dweller so much as touching a projecter. It is a illusion.  It should be confronted and ordered away or totally ignored, or both.

Well, RB has much more to say about it, but I just wanted to assure you that your friend will be fine! [] And confronting it is the best way to go.

You should get Robert's book, Astral Dynamics!  A gold mine of information, if you or your friend are really interested in continuing Astral Projection.

Well this is new to me. Interesting yet scary.

He's the one who told me about the book and I'm almost done with Part 4, while he only read part of it so he could get on with his attempts years back. I've already learned a lot about projection and come a long way in understand some of the things with exits and helpped me understand the 2 or 3 memories I have from projection.

OK a friend of mine tried projecting a while back, he's the one that showed me Robert Bruce's book about it, and he said whenever he projected there was a black shadowy figure that stood was with him in the room that struck fear into him just by looking at him, he also said when he dove back into his body and woke up he could still see the "man" for about five to ten seconds. Any ideas on what it is?
