Yes I do believe that certain types of music can affect you in the way you describe.

Years ago I unknowingly went into a deep trance while listening to a particular type of electronic music. It was soft fast arpeggio type sequences on synths that would change subtley through the track. Similar to the dance/trance music of recent years but without the 120+ beats per minute rhythm behind it - just instrumental.

For those of us who are more sensitive to audio stimuli, it can have a great effect.

I don't know about the particular hypnotist you mentioned, but I went to a stage hypnotism show recently and the hypnotist there used Clouds Below your Knees by Ray Lynch, a personal favorite of mine that I recognized. I don't know if it's the same tune your hypnotist used, but It's a great hypnotic song nonetheless...I'm listing to it on MP3 as I type.

Wow, I will have to go get Lynch's Clouds below the Knees.

For a long time I had been using the Hemi-Sync Metamusic numbers.  I sell them after all, so hey.

Lately on another forum some NDE'ers agreed that music by Steve Reich was the most like what they heard during their OOB experiences, so I sent off for two of them, Structures from Silence and another title with the word Dream in it which I forget at the moment.

I really like the Reich numbers a lot, but don't regard them as hypnotic.  Hmm, what is it?  Aha, his music seems specifically designed to sound simple, but it is not quite repetitive.  Like partly repetitive but not quite, so the mind gets carried along like a long strand of spiderweb in a light breeze, and it never loops back on itself totally, just going along.  I don't know if that helps and besides my take on it might not be like anyone elses.  How about it?  Anybody else got favorite trance music that really works for them?

BTW my two Hemi-Sync favorites are Cloudscapes and Into the Deep.

Cheers!

Steve

hmm...where to start?
I personally favor
- 'Rain of Blessings' and 'The Lamas Chant (Songs of Awakening)' by Lama Gyurme and Jean-Phillipe Rykiel (Tibetan mantras and chants)

-'Fascinoma' by Jon Hassell (has a version of 'Nature Boy' on it that just slides across your skin and enfolds you) with Ronu Majumdar and others

-Any composition by Arvo Part.  Some people are put off by the source of most of his music (Greek Orthodox Canons), but his minalism and simplicity are not to be missed.

Check out http://www.hos.com , which is the website of Hearts of Space, a public radio program here in the states, which covers all kinds of ambient music, from Chill-Out techno to Qwalli everything.  They have an audio subscription service, and a righteous record label/catalog...

i wasnt sure where to put this post, but i'll just throw it here.. and leave it to the moderators for that job..
a famous hypnotist came to our school and showed off his skill by making otherwise timid participants do wild and crazy things on stage.. it was great and all, but i was DEEPLY interested in the music he used to put these volunteers into their trance.  it was unlike any other soothing music i have heard, and it honestly put the entire crowd of thousands to a calm blissful state.  his name is tom deluca (tomdeluca.com).. and my question(s) is this:  has anyone seen this show?  if so, do you remember the soothing lullaby type music?  and PLEASE, do you know the name of it or a place i can purchase this music?

i honestly think this music could help with any endeavor on this board.. energy work, meditation, astral projection, anything.

but.. if none of you are aware of this guy and the music he used, does anyone have any suggestions for a cd that has soothing slow lullabys to calm the mind into other states of awareness? (no voice track if possible, i like to prod my own mind)

thanks in advance,

amed!
