Was it a Dream or OBE?

It sounds to me that you had an OBE, but your conscious level of awareness wasn't extremely high....just high enough to remember these OBE details.
I have had a number of experiences were full blown OBE's have faded into dreamlike experiences (due to my consciousness fading and losing control); likewise, I've had semi-conscious dreams turn into full blown OBE's with my full conscious awareness.  I think it's all just a matter of how focused a person is at the time of their projection.

Keep working on it, and hopefully next time, there will be no doubt in your mind that you've successfully projected.  =)

Hello there,

It is not uncommon to drift between dreaming and projecting. This is especially true for beginners. You said at one point while this was happening that you knew your limbs were separated? That is a benchmark for knowing that you're projecting. Even if you question it when you wake up, if there was a time while you were projecting that you were thinking "I am definitely projecting" or "my limbs are separating", you definitely did it.

They are right when they say the more you practice, the more you'll be able to tell what is real and what is not. And as you progress, you'll be able to to look back on previous experiences and tell the woods from the trees.

Some of the sensations, descriptions elsewhere on this board described to a tee what I was experiencing.  Not having vision immediately, a ripping sound, a distinct sensation that you were moving your limbs but not physical.

I can recall a lot of detail from the experience, but it still has a dream feel to it.  Thanks for the comments.

I have been meditating for the past 2 months in the hopes of achieving an OBE.  I have achieved vibrations, heard metallic chimes, etc..  Last night I went to sleep and woke up in the middle of the night.  I went back to bed and thought I would try to have an OBE.  However, I'm not quite sure whether I had an OBE, or I had a dream that was about having an OBE.  I remember the following details, they seem as though they may have happened, but there is a high dream like quality to them.  As I have never had a non-spontatious OBE before, I'm not really sure what to expect.  Here are the details:

1.  Went back to bed.
2.  Focused on my breathing, but not sure if I fell asleep.
3.  Could see the darkness behind my eyelids?  However, I'm not sure if I was dreaming seeing this darkness(that would be a strange dream).
4.  Remember that my arms and legs were floating, and I could make the top half of my body seperate also.  I was connected at the hips, only because I wasn't trying for a full seperation.
5.  I couldn't see, but I new that my limbs were separated from the physical
6.  Demanded visibility/clarity.
7. Nothing. So I said what the heck, lets roll over.  Rolled over and then I was seperated.  Didn't look back at the bed.
8.  Saw a little cloaked figure, went up to him abruptly and asked him what he wanted.  It cowarded in a corner.
9.  I jumped out the window and saw my development.  At this point everything seem very dream like.
10.  I remember going back to my body, but I just couldn't "phase back into it"
11. Blacked out.

The problem I have is that I'm not quite sure all of this happened with my conscious mind in tact, or If my unconscious mind crafted this entire scenario based upon my desire to have an OBE.

Any thoughts?  Thanks.
