Hello I am new to the board obviously.  I had a question about an OBE.  First I haven't been able to have one yet(I have been trying for about a month).  But every time I try to do it I get closer.  The last time I had one I got to the point of my body vibrating and the sound of wind rushing.

Anyway I was in the middle of a dream when I became lucid.  And I have read that if you run super fast into a wall it's possible to have an OBE.  So I was like what the heck.  After about 4 times I hit the wall then fell to the ground.  I felt the sinking feeling then vibrations and the wind rushing sound(plus I could see without my eyes being open, however the room looked a little different) and it lasted longer than last time but I tried doing the rope technique thing but it didn't work at all.  But then after my attempt I "woke up" in a dream and turned on my lamp(which I don't have) and started saying dammit!

So my question is was that a dream?  Is it possible to experience all the same things just in a dream state and not actually having an OBE?  Or was I just tired and after my attempt I just went back to sleep and my dream mind started going again?

Welcome markulous!

Wow you are getting very close to having an OBE with those vibrations and wind rushing sounds!

There are lots of ways to go from a lucid dream to and OBE.  You could always just will it, walk through a door, look at your hands, or "feel for your physical body".

That's a hard call.  I'm wanting to say it was an OBE though for these reasons.

1.  You turned on a light.  In lucid dreams you usually can't turn on lights..they just don't work.

2.  You say you "woke up" into it, right after trying the rope technique and feeling vibrations/whooshing sound.  It sounds like it was a successful projection attempt, but your consciousness of it was delayed for some reason.  It may have been an off mind split situation, but I'm not sure.  Maybe someone else can provide a good explanation for this.

The reason the lamp was there (and isn't in real life) is that in RTZ your mind will sometimes wander, and even start to throw dreamlike qualities into your OBE.  You are still "out of body", but things like the lamp are probably just things thrown in there by your dream mind.

Hope this helps!

I think you might be right that I had one and I didn't even know it.  Because I remember seeing ghostly looking hands in front of me that I knew were my own(unless that was part of the dream too. However in any other dream my hands always looked like my real hands).

And I realized after reading Robert's book that I almost(or have had) an OBE when I was a kid.  I heard the wind rushing sounds and heard a "demon" yelling at me which I believe now to be astral noise.  So I would assume if I have had success(or partial success) when I was a kid it wouldn't be as difficult now...
