Hi Meg
I once asked my self the same question... I have come to the conclusion that our purpose is to evolve as one part of a whole as spirits so in the living if we emulate that same concept of giving thanks to the universe in a group our voices are more predominant , like in the  example of group pray or healing

their worship is crap (it mainly involves that "spiritual high" feeling, but no actual spiritual WORSHIP), but their friendlyness towards each other after the church "services" are much greater than the friendlyness of normal people (and even many normal churches).

Hi Meg,

You might find it a little difficult to get an open unbiased opinion on this subject because of the religious aspect of it. Those who belong to christian churches will go to lengths to denounce it. Those who belong to spiritualist churches will go to lengths to promote it. You'll find the reverse will also be true.

Both Reikimaster and Kakkarot have put forward valid points. A spiritual community can be of great benefit where it comes to prayer and heeling - just look at what this community within the forum is doing at the moment for Maoli. But this forum is made up of many people with a great diversity in religious and spiritual beliefs and viewpoints.

You won't get that in a spiritualist church, or really any other church for that matter. To be a part of any church, or any organised religion you need to be able to conform to their system of beliefs or their doctorine. If you don't, you will find yourself feeling very much left out and alone, even within a church community. Their friendliness can rapidly disappear.

My experiences have shown me that religions are more about the organisations than the individuals The spiritualist churches are no different at all from any other religious body in this respect.

These are only my opinions, based on what I have seen. If you are truly curious, the only way to find out is to see for yourself. Please be careful though to keep an open, but guarded mind.

All the best,

James.

P.S.

If you want a bit of basic info on the beliefs of spiritualists, I found this site:

Bye again,

Thanks for the link, James.

I don't know if I like the idea of a "spiritual high" in place of real worship -  makes me think of those early morning TV evangelists who get people really worked up to no real end (apart from selling their products).  Yuck.

I'd be interested to go to a service, though, just to check it out. From what I've read, they have many similar beliefs to me. Ah, but I don't know... I find it hard to imagine myself actually doing it...

Hello...
A wise man once wrote " With those of whom we assemble we soon Resemble"...  This holds true for all belief systems, and as I see it some folks like to thank their creator in solitude in the method of their own interpretation of the higher power, as for those who are social and have found a common bond in theology or metaphysics this works too, but it seems that alot of us have been raised to follow traditions that leave us with more questions than answers, I would imagine that is the founding concept of some of these new age religions. I looked up that website and happy to say it has respect for other beliefs, not alot of dogma but some pretty valid principles that focus on the positive and not a fear factor.
                                                                              Peace  R M

Secret of Secrets

Meg

Hi everyone,

I've never been one for organised religions, but I've always been fascinated by the ritual surrounding them and admire the sense of community attached to being involved in one. I wonder if anyone has had any experience with spiritualist churches, or any opinions about them.

I'm curious.

Meg
