water spirits?

I could have sworn I recently read a threat about water spirits here but i can't locate it now... I ask because my cat has always been fascinated with water, fascinated as if it is his personal task in life to check out every possible vessel of water and smell it, touch it, inspect it, not necessarily taste it (even if it is the same water in his dish and smells the exact same), and then guard it.  And not a little.  No.  For a very long time; it is serious business.  Bottles, cups, cans, bowls, toilets, whatever.  He happens to be a very exceptional cat who even knows how to clear a room of negative energy (what a guy) and other crazy things, so it occurred to me tonight after 10 minutes of guarding my water glass and occasionally looking at it as if it was telling him some kind of crazy story or singing at him, that perhaps there is a specific reason he is Water Inspector.  Oddly, his favorite toys also happen to be straws.  

Also he is not always on high alert water patrol, but when he is you actually have to drink very quietly and set your cup down softly or else he will come running from the other room and try to inspect your water vessel.  When he is on normal alert water patrol, he will inspect your water eventually if he is in the area, and then proceed to drink half of it.  maybe I will get him a badge.

Anyone have any ideas?

I like this cat, he seems very individual and abnormal. He has overcome the aversion to water most cats face, similar to how most humans shun garlic, but I love it. Your cat should marry my cat, who is named Kitty.

Though Sibli is indeed highly abnormal, his study of water hasn't helped him overcome his natural aversion to it, which makes his water fascination all the more entertaining.  Apparently, he will melt upon contact with any fluid or also any solid that could possibly actually be a fluid, and will run, tail poofed, to the next room, then run immediately back again to inspect and determine the underlying cause of the unruly fluids.  He is glaring at me as I type this.

I am all for a kitty marriage, however.  What's the dowery?  Mine comes with a very neurotic and affectionate large black brother-in-law named Sabli.

Ha!  Think of all the catnip mice he could buy with that kind of money!!

Actually... showers and baths make him very nervous.  He´ll be close enough to make sure he can keep an eye on it but won´t move from the spot till the aters all down the drain and gone.  It´s really almost like he is trying to herd water, as if it might do something bad.  Oddball.
