SPASTRAL

Hi there.

I find it quite a struggle to relax.  I would suggest the following:

1. Do something physical (I'll leave this to your interpretation)
2. Make sure you're warm
3. imagine as you inhale, that you are being 'warmed up' strating at your feet and working through all the muscle groups. spend a lot of time developing this.
4. maintain deep, rythmic breathing.  when people try to do things, they tend to hold thier breath.  Count to 3-4 as you inhale, hold for 1-2, exhale to 3-4 Find the count that suits you.
5. relax, don't try too hard, don't use you r physical to will the projection.  The only muscle you should excersise is your mind.

Hope these help.

being dependant upon holding your breath would be bad but if you're looking for a quick fix then holding your breath should get you to a light  trance state w/in about two minutes.  there was a post on here a while back about it . do a search and see what you come up w/.

being able to get there w/out that would be ideal though.  also when you use the holdin gyour breath tek you don't have to be completely relaxed to enter the trance state which is counter productive.  you shouldn't be able to project from this state unless you are completely relaxed.  take your time and learn the correct way to do it.  looking for a quick way usually will do more harm than good, but this tek is pretty effective, even the first time you use it.

Hi Fredhedd

I wasn't recommending holding your breath, I was simply stating that sometimes when people concentrate on something, they don't breath properly or hold thier breath.

As for Rythmic breathing, this guarentees maximum oxygen intake which relaxes muscles, slows the heart down....pretty much what happens when we sleep.

I didn't know there was a trance technique that involved holding your breath.  When you hold your breath, it's the build up of of Co2 that forces you to exhale, I can't see why holding Co2 in your system would help with trance, but would be interested to read the original thread.  A good breathing technique I use before rythmic breathing is the technique that free divers use:
done correctly, this allows divers to hold thier breath for up to around 6 minutes, this is because thier lungs are full of oxygen only and not Co2.

1 Take a deep breath
2 breath out further than you normally would....Feel like you have Completely  emptied your lungs.
3 hyperventilate; breath deeply, exhale deeply and quickly

Obviously, don't hold your breath! this is where I would start rythmic breathing and feel much more relaxed for it.

Hope this helps.

Not that this will help you, but this is my technique

I spend the first several minutes with my eyes closed just adjusting to having my eyes closed, the normal nightime sounds etc.
then I visualize the numbers 1-3 for some reason. They are like in a far off box, and each in turn comes close and into focus. These are typically timed with my breathing, one in two hold 3 out.
after a while of that I just (hard to explain) start to make myself feel heavy. Like I'm about to drop thro the bed.
At some point during this process I begin to imagine scenes. Like I'm walking thro a forest or some such. I usually find myself in a pretty deep trance with almost no awareness of being physical.

thanks for that I will gove it a try. My problem (one of them) is that I go for one method then after a few minutes I get impatient and try others and I just end up never getting anywhere

This relaxation technique I use is very simple and works every time.

1. Definitely make sure you are warm, this is a must!

2.  Relax every muscle starting at the feet all the way up to your head.  Feel every muscle being relaxed heavy and warm.

3.  Feel your body sink into the bed being so heavy that you just couldn't lift up your arms if you tried.

4.  Tell your self "relax"  then sink deeper into yourself and really focus inward.  Then say  "relax" again and sink even deeper into yourself and then a final time say "relax"  and sink to your deepest level.

Usually by this time you are in a really good trance (for me anyway)

By itself, "rope" can cause relaxation and trance. It also begins raising energy. I read it and found it to be true. It caused the relaxation to come and brought me into trance. It even helped to raise energy as my "rope" was pulled through my body. It seemed to want to go through me after being pulled by my awareness hands several feet from my body. Weird things happen in trance. My problem is that I can spend well over an hour just climbing rope before needing to change positions.

is anyone like me? i find that the hardest part is relaxing to such an extent that your effectively in trance! anybody know any really good techniques that work for them relativly quickly?

I have only ever been in trance once, the first time I tried. Then I left it partly through fear and partly due to reading about taking it 1 step at a time.

I believe that if i ever get back to that state i will be able to project but its the frustration of it taking so bloomin long!

anyone else care to comment?
