To cry or not to cry? that is my question

For the past decade, I've held back from friends and family the depression, frustration, and sadness within me. I just bottle it up. Now, I'm sick of holding back my emotions.

I want them to know how I'm feeling, but through a certain set of circumstances. Namely, I want to open myself up in a moment of catharsis, where both myself and my friends would cry with each other. I feel that this is absolutely necessary for me. However, I believe that I'll be the only one crying.

Sure, they'll be there to comfort me about everything I've gone through, but they wouldn't participate and cry with me. To put it straight, I'm sick of crying by myself. I would feel ridiculous to be the only one crying in the room.

Any thoughts, comments, or suggestions on this dilemma of mine would be greatly appreciated.

There groups for things like this, called support groups, where you can cry, vent as much as you like, and get hugged, and reassured, that someone understands you.

Now, unless your friends are as depressed as you, then it seems very likely, you'll be the only one crying. Now, depending on how understanding your friends are, that might be a good or bad thing for you.

Rather than crying, why don't you just explain your problems and seek their counselling. If you think you can't do that without crying, then do it if you must, but you could also do the same with a counsellor or a support group, without looking vulnerable to your friends.

Very good website for depressed ppl. Group is very supportive. They helped me a lot when I was miserable.

I too am in a similar situation, and it is hard.  I dont even let myself cry, even alone.  I feel that no one could possibly understand me.  Through my years of buddhist meditation and philosophy, my astral experiences, and other realizations and epiphanies I have had, I just feel that to explain my problems would only confuse people.  I have a very strange and different way of viewing the world, society, well... everything.  Remember that this reality is only transitory, and every problem you have is transitory as well.  Have you ever left your body?  It gives a whole new meaning to life.  I suggest you try it of you havent.

A good cry is cathartic to be sure. While there could be many reasons, not all of them sad ones (like a good movie), crying comes to most folks all the time.

However, ORIONX100, I don't understand the desire to have:

Quote"both myself and my friends would cry with each other. I feel that this is absolutely necessary for me. However, I believe that I'll be the only one crying. "

While you can expect friends to be supportive, you cannot expect them to cry. In my view, I'd say to just be content with those who offer genuine support.

My 2 cents,

I second what Nick said, but I would add as a side note that you should always feel free to express your emotions.  If you watch animals you will know they hold nothing back.  It is only due to societal rules that we feel the need to surpress our emotions.  When we do this it creates huge mental blocks and can seriously harm us.

Even if you are angry at someone you should get it out right then and there.  Animals roar when they are upset.  It is a way  to clearly deffine your territory.  Better to have it out in the open and done with, else it will just wait to come out at another time and the issue will go unresolved possibly turning a simple matter into an ugly mess.

And if you don't feel comfortable shouting, then take up stretching or yoga or taichi to help you move the blocks out.

F***! Its what ii say to this stupid western world...even crying its seem like a shamed thing.

Why people just caant to cry for a while and have some support? Why ?

Now i am needing less and aless that kind of support but there was times in wich i really needed some love and got nothing.

Sometimes i cry alone (now even less fortunatly) in the night when i am really really fu**ed up with my life...specially when i found that people just dont like me for no reason.
I love you!

By everyone crying in response to your crying, your hidden feelings would be manifested physically for you and everyone to witness,
and their reaction would be sadness that you have dealt with what you have, not confusion or frustration or hesitation of what to do next. You would be on the same level with everyone at that moment and equally 'shamed'
Maybe this desire of yours can help you see what it is that makes you feel rotten and hide rotten

Even if you all end up in a massive ball of weepy sorrow, you won't have gotten any farther away from your weepy sorrow, and you may even become addicted to the situation of having everyone in the pits with you.

I cry alot for the world i just don't get why it has to be like this or well i do and i don't... I know in my heart that i should be happy but sometimes it just seems like the sadness is taking over for no reason...
