Hi pl, :D

I think some questions need answering before one can really answer your question.  What is it that you are doing when you get sleepy?  Do you do any chakra clearing at all? (this helps most energy work, if you have blockages, these will hinder your efforts)

You might want to try an active energy manipulation method to keep you self awake. If you are week, this will help you to build your body as well as your energy pathways. Try taking a chi-kung class, or a yoga class.

Other things to keep in mind:
Posture it is very important in deciding how energy flows throughout the body as well as how awake you feel during energy work.  Here are some tips for energy work while standing (harder to fall asleep while standing); many of the concepts apply to sitting as well.

*Keep the hands open and alive.  Don't stretch them to their maximum, just try to open them as much and as easily as if they where laying flat on a table.  Opening the hands in this manner sets of a biological trigger for alertness in the body. Your body will be able to take in more sensory input with open hands. It also allows energy to flow more easily through the pathways of the hands.
ON A SIDE NOTE: most martial arts originated in china, use or used to use open handed strikes.  The open hand allows for the flow of energy to move unimpeded. Tai-chi may use the occasional hallow fist strike, but the fist is not clenched for energetic reasons.  Karate, used to be almost an entirely open handed fighting style also for energetic reasons. Using fingers or side of the hand to strike rather than fists. No one today has the time to harden their fingers enough to use them as weapons, so the stiles which are typically taught today feature much more first striking.

*Keep a space under the armpit. You can take a golf ball or ping pong ball and put it under your armpit to get an idea of how much space you should have. you should be as relaxed as possible. Shoulders should not be hunched forward, if they are your upper back will begin to hurt after a while.

*Keep the head erect.  Point the spot where your swirl of hair grows from toward the sky (just behind the crown of the head

*Flatten the lower back.  When you flatten the arch of your spine by pulling the hips in, and under your energy field more ball like.  Energy can also mover throughout spine more easily.

*knees slightly bent

*feet shoulder with apart.  You can rock from balls of feet to heels to alleviate muscle tension generated from standing in one place for a long time.

(sorry for the delay in my reply)

I think that Hagcin has some great advice! I'd also like to add that it probably isn't so much your body that is "weak", as you put it.  I find a lot of people have trouble maintaining focus through any kind of meditation process - particularly meditations that they are having to maintain all the focus themselves (ie not guided by a tape, etc).  Unfortunately, in toady's society, we are so over stimulated all the time, that when it comes to something like slowing down and going within, we find it a hard thing to do!

May I suggest you do your meditation in a sitting position - maintaining good posture, (head up, etc) with palms upwards on your lap.  I feel you should start by finding a good guided meditation tape to use in the beginning - this helps to give you more of a focus or stimuli to maintain an alert mind.  I know Doreen Virtue has a good chakra clearing guided meditation, which works well (I'm sure there are others out there too).

If this doesn't work then I would consider starting doing some short exercises on focusing your mind, and maintaining that focus.

Wishing you luck in these endeavors.

TIP FOR YOU. stay awake for as long as u are 'training' --- very very beneficial

Leilah

Try taking a nap before you practice.
Leaning over
Crawling up
Stumbling all around
Losing my place
Only to find I've come full circle.

if your body is very weak then do sports. go jogging and do some workout. that will make you fit. i beleive that fitness of the energy body is linked to fitness of the physical body. dont practice early in the morning or late at night but only in the afternoon preferably after a nap. do much energy raising and DONT STOP PRACTICING! if youll keep on practicing on a regular basis you will get more acustomed to energy work and wont be that tiring any more.

I do new while watching tv, even when I am in the cinema. If I go to some tranquil place to practice (you know, silent, dim,...) I end up thinking about my daily concerns.

Remember those africans dances which lead dancers to a trance due to the effect of overloading their senses. So it's ok to practice new even in the   stranger place. In my case I practice much better when I'm traveling in the train, watching tv, etc..

rave_master_naruto

PL, i think you are not patient for practicing such thing, as a result, you will surrender it easily.  And remember: do not read too much info about energy instructions bcause you will only get confused....  :gone:
If you are confused, then do not be confuse so that you will not be confused :D
