You guessed correctly and you came to the right place. You were out of body. The energy body is a little larger than the physical body, which explains why there was the sense of swelling up. The heart chakra is a big part of the experience. Its activity feels like a rapid heartbeat of the physical body. The movements of the eyelids are a common side effect of working with energy and trance states. The muscles of the eyelids tend to take a while to relax and that is part of the process. You actually did check the caller ID. The rest of us have to place a card from a deck of playing cards and then go to it out of body to confirm that the experience was objective. Congratulations. Please stay with it and develop your abilities.

Sounds to me like you were starting to experience some of the effects that one usually feels when he's aware of being in an altered state of consciousness.

Especially when you mentioned about the blackness you saw with your eyes closed was DIFFERENT than what you normally see when you look behind closed eyelids.  You'll find that many people here see that stage of relaxation as a benchmark to continually get to in order to phase into an astral realm.

If you can reproduce these sensations at will, then you're already farther than you think!

thanks guys...the whole caller id thing happened before I new what OBE was and last night was the first attempt in inducing one. Everything seemed to happen so quickly but when I came to and looked at the clock it had been a lot longer than I thought.   Why is it that I saw black? Was I out of body on the my attempt? and if so why didn't I realize it or see anything? Thanks

This black sounds like the "void" that many of us go through.  It can be very frustrating (at least it was to me).  When I get to that point, I already consider myself having an OBE/Astral experience......just without sight.  However, in Monroe language, I believe you were in Focus 21 (or is it 22 Frank?).....meaning that you were right on the verge of phasing into the astral realms.  

For me, when I have gotten to this point, I've used my imagination to create something for me to hold onto.  For example, when in this void last, I imagined myself holding onto some grass or something.  I reached my right arm around, and eventually, I grabbed onto some vegetation.  Once I had that point of contact, I was able to focus in on it, and my sight slowly faded into view, where I found myself holding some weeds in my hand while standing underneath an expressway out in the country somewhere.

Still is frustrating for me. Spent an hour and a half earlier watching the great big nothing happpen, buzzing like a bee and with all sorts of neat and interesting sensations but bo OBE!
The good thing is I can get there without too much trouble. Well, 30 min or so.

About a month ago I was halfway sleeping on my couch and the phone rang. I got up to see who it was on the caller id and decided not to talk to them. when the answering machine came on and a message was left i woke up realizing i hadn't moved an inch and it really was the person i thought it was on the phone. I thought maybe it was just a wierd dream/coincidence...but then I found this sight......

Last night I was in bed trying the ROPE method and I felt the vibrations in the body, and the heaviness. Soon after i felt like my body was real swollen especially my face..before long I almost didn't feel my physical body at all and I was real warm and comfortable and felt free and saw black. i say saw black because it was a diiference from just staring at the back of my eyelids in the dark if that makes sense. it is hard to describe. my heart felt like it was going to pound out of my chest and my eyes started to flutter uncontrollably which scared me a bit and broke my concentration....CAN ANYONE HELP EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT WAS HAPPENING? I would really appreciate it. thanks
