I'm really taken aback by the way many of you claim to know quantum physics so well because of your spirituality and the nontechnical books you've read. The arrogance of that...

I think you'll find it's actually quantum mechanics and string theory that most people and 'new agers' refer to as supporting their belief structure rather than particle physics.
That said, I'd not seen this site before and it does provide a good lay-mans overview.
I've not had the opportunity to visit CERN or the new LHC ring that's being built there but I have worked at Rutherford labs and JET (joint European Torus) in the UK and so do have a reasonable idea of the current theories.

I'm not an applied mathematician by any stretch of the imagination (and to really grasp the subject fully you need to be) but if you want a good introduction to the whole subject I can recommend a book by Brian Greene called the elegant universe.

If you look into it you'll find that the whole concept of vibrational energy, multilayer universes and dimensions is indeed very closely linked to what so many are discovering from themselves through spirituality.

For me, as an engineer, it was the thoughts and questions that this subject raised that in the end brought me to my own belief in God and Spirit.   As I then opened up and developed an "awareness" I started to experience for myself the realities of what I had until then discounted as myth and hoax.
So maybe none of us should be too quick to judge who is arrogant or not.
After all, it's all just a question of perspective and personal belief regardless of what background you come from. Were the Shamans of the past any less valid because they hadn't heard of Super-Strings?
As long as your heart's intent is moving you forward and you can help others in the process with love, what else is there to be?

Right now, I'm not even sure anymore that it's necessary to know or understand how it all fits together. The fact that it does, that it works, that I'm here experiencing it and that I know through personal experience that there is more than this short physical life, is becoming enough for me.

Just imagine what we could do with all the resources and energy that is being poured into these research efforts, if just even some of that was diverted into feeding the starving millions of the world, combating the spread of disease and providing enough for everyone.


Phew, I had no idea all that was bubbling up and waiting to come out.

Telos,  thank you for giving me the opportunity to share all that.  It was good for me to get that lot off my chest and stand on my soapbox for a while.  And thanks for the link also, it really does give a good background to particle physics, from which it will be much easier for the newcomer to dip their toes into the murky waters of chaos theory, strings and quantum mechanics.

Well, each to their own. I do find it necessary to understand as much as possible, and, though I dont take the normal route, I do hope to apply understanding of the world to make it a better place! But I mean, we could feed the millions and do all that already, the problem there is the system we live in, and IMO the iron grip the corporate and money affairs have on the world. But I'm not going to go into a rant about that :p "war is a racket" lays it down pretty well tho (amazon).

Anyway, the way I see it I'm happy that there is diversity in the world - we can all work at the problems from different angles.

And in almost the same breath, I agree with you as well.

It was wanting to understand and to explore that engaged me in these forums and interested me in looking at conscious astral projection  
It's all new to me and 2 yrs ago I would have categorized everyone here a self-delusional nutcases
Coming from a science background is forcing me to set aside much of the scientific theory and teaching me to just let some things be -'least that's how it's working for me.
But as you said, each unto his own and as I heard someone say recently "mine is not the better way, it's simply another way" ...or something along those lines
