I would like to learn.

*chuckles* I don't even know where to start. My desire for knowledge has driven me to seek something higher. Eventually this lead me to my friends, one of whom told me about Astral Projection, which, eventually, led me here: to my computer, typing this very post.

I don't, of course, intend to sound like all I want is power, though that may well be the case. I write and when I write I can tell that I don't know myself very well; that aside, I would like to learn magic.

I haven't been very good at researching and I am quite afraid to ask anyone I know in person because of the obvious "Hahaha!" effect it might have. Not many of my friends have been known to give that sort of response; however, I'm still afraid.

I'm trying hard - very hard - to learn err... magic. Something beyond the human norm. Let me rephrase that: beyond the socially average human norm. I've always wanted something more than what I see out of life.

I'm sorry, I ramble and rant. Regardless, can anyone point me in the right direction.

Note: I have no money to spend on any books ^_^;

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I've been here for a few months already, albeit sporadically. This forum's a great inspiration for someone who's been trying to 'AP' for over a year, to no avail. :-D

P.S.S. Also, I know you guys see these topics a lot and I know that I am just some random nameless person who you neither know or care about - and why should you!? - and I understand this, and I'm sure you hear this every day, but I really want to know and to learn.

Krashlanmar:

I am curious, what would you like to do with this 'magic'?

I think you need to examine your expectations closely. What is lacking in your life that you feel the need for 'power'?

Quote"I've always wanted something more than what I see out of life."

Again, what are you lacking?

QuoteI know that I am just some random nameless person who you neither know or care about - and why should you!?

Who said I don't care about you? Why do you just automatically assume I don't? Did I tell you that, or do you have the 'power' to read my mind?
"All problems are illusions of the mind."

Krashlanmar

I wish. No, there were ulterior motives for putting all of what I did in my post.

Regardless, I am lacking, seemingly, nothing. I mean, I'm doing great. Schoolwork's getting better and everything... I just... want... something else.

And what would I do with it? I don't know. I know that I could say the customary "I would use it for good and not for evil," but I don't know...

Given myself, from a third person's perspective, I wouldn't know what to think when it comes to using the powers. I mean, I'm moral, or at least I like to think I am, and I'm conservative (this doesn't count ;) ), which means that I wouldn't use it in the stead of manual labor...

In reality, I might use it for not so great deeds, though I don't now think that I would, so I can't tell you a straight answer.

I can say that I will try not to use it for evil and all of that, but I know that when if comes down to it, I might do something that would make me regret the statement. Thus the "I implore you not to judge" in my signature... I'm a man of many masks, and sometimes I don't know myself...

Heh. I'm trying to tell you the truth. It's not getting me in a better standing is it? ^_^;

*****SHORT ANSWER*****

Lacking: Nothing.

Use: Pending.

As I said in my post: I crave - nay, lust for! - knowledge, and this is all part of it. Knowledge, in my mind, is not just knowing about something, but experiencing it, so... Basically, I'm hoping that if I learn to use some form of magic, this unrelenting desire would go away. I rationally know it will not, and it sounds really, REALLY, stupid, but that's how it is.

I swear, I sound like one of those people I look at and say, "grow up!" (Not to their faces... just to myself ;) )

Krashlanmar:

What if I told you that I had a magic stop-watch for you. And let us say it grants you the power to stop time dead in its tracks like you see in the movies.  It would be pretty neat, huh? What would you do with it?

Do you think that eventually you would end up wanting more? Would it lose its luster after awhile?

What if you had all the power in the world, to do anything you wanted. Anything. Experience anything and everything. What's the first thing you would do? How about the second? Third...?
"All problems are illusions of the mind."

Krashlanmar

That stop watch scenario has been thought about for a good long time (by myself, of course)...

First thing I would do is wonder how the hell the world isn't imploding under infinite weight on one point for an infinite amount of time...

Second thing I would do is travel. I would go everywhere in the world and see everything.

Third thing I would do is read every book I could get my hands on.

Fourth thing I would do is unstop time so that I can experience things that I could not, while under it's... condition.

Back 4 years ago, I stole something from family friends of mine... It was the most stupid thing ever, but I really wanted it, so I stole it... Eventually, I stole again and I got caught, thankfully by my own parents. Two weeks later they found out that I forged my school report card.

Those were the hardest two weeks of my life and they haunt me. Like ghosts of a murderer's past, they haunt me and I am never free. Did you ever see in movies where people start to hallucinate about something that happened in their past? Where they forget about reality and they see their house and family burning (or something) in a fire and their minds make it so that it seems like they are in that moment of time... That is me every morning. I wake up and I look into the eyes of my parents, crying because I what I did.

I swore to myself I'd never lie to them or do anything of that nature in the future. So far, I haven't stolen or forged any more report cards or anything like that. I have lied, but it wasn't about anything big. And we have fought since then, but in general we are closer for it.

So, the obvious question comes to my mind... Would I steal or do some other vile deeds with that watch? I don't know. Right now, sitting here, I say "Nay!" but when it comes down to it. Not just stealing. I'm still a teenager and my hormones are 'raging,' and I'll leave it at that. Sitting here now I can say that I will not with no small amount of confidence that I will not fail in the future with regards to that particular promise, but when I am actually there, in the moment....... *shrugs*

And I have no doubt that this watch would eventually lose it's appeal to me. I know that eventually I will be seeking more and it will be more painful than before since I now know everything that books and traveling can teach me, but I don't feel that way yet, and... I want to, strangely enough...

I know it sounds strange. I'm trying my best to filter what comes out of my mind into something that is understandable. I'm not doing a great job; I'm sorry.

All of the power in the world?... That's my goal, isn't it? I have no idea what I would do afterward. I would probably (considering what I like to do with the knowledge I have now) think. Just sit there for hours and look into myself and think.

I would probably then find something else... something MORE to strive for. Mayhap a Gilgamesh-type thing, but... probably different.

By the way, I appreciate you replying my post. Many people wouldn't care. So, thank you.

Can magic alter the very fabrics of the DNA and thus increase someone's IQ?.

i got a few questions:

1. the lesser banishing ritual of the pentagram is it a shield?

2. I've heard you can talk to God through it is this true?

3. and finally is there any harm in performing simple spells (candle magic) ?

thanks

Just thought I would weigh in on your questions, Shueisha.

Quote1. the lesser banishing ritual of the pentagram is it a shield?

Not really a shield so much as a cleansing ritual.  At least in my experience.  Basically, you are starting to work within the realm of pure Nature.  You start by creating a space devoid of influence.  That is the purpose behind the LBRP.  To cleanse an area of all influences (demons in medieval writings) that wandered in without control.

Now, the obvious question here is why do such a thing?  The answer is as simple as it is obvious.  Nature abhors a vacuum!  You are creating a place vacuous to intent, and through later workings in the area, you fill it with your Intent, your Will.  In my opinion, this is the astral equivalent of an Immaculate Conception if you but think of your rituals as astral children.  You are putting it forth into an area that is Pure of Influence by first cleansing the birth site with the LBRP.

However, if used daily, as most magician's do, it takes on a much larger force in the life of the magician.  It unlocks the magician's self.  Why?  Again, Nature abhors a vacuum!  If you simply use the LBRP as a practice ritual and do not follow it up with any "practical" world, but rather sit there an meditate on what you feel through the rite, those feelings, those thoughts on those feelings, and the way those catalyze together, change you toward self-awareness that can lead to Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel.

All things considered, it can be said that the LBRP is the most potent ritual in the arsenal of a CM.  It now only prepares the perfect spot for practical work, but also can unlock the aspirant to the highest reaches available in this incarnation!

Quote2. I've heard you can talk to God through it is this true?

It is and it isn't.  As I have said, meditation on this ritual can lead to the self-actualization needed to garner the Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel.  While a far cry from Godhead, please do not underestimate the power this being holds!  Once you accomplish this, if you ever do, I'm not going to lie, it is difficult, but once you accomplish this, the Universe falls into place.  It is not to say that life becomes easy, FAR FROM IT, but it becomes clearer, if that makes sense.  It is something that is really difficult to explain.

Now, the really cool part, you don't have direct access to talk directly to God, though many astral posers will try to convince you otherwise, but your HGA does.  Some answers are beyond you, and the Angel will tell you that you aren't ready for the information, other answers are easy enough to solve with it's help, and other questions asked will lead you on life changing quests to get the answers.  And that is what life is about!

I encourage everyone to undertake the challenge of acquiring the Knowledge and Conversation, and the best two books I have found on the subject are the original book to make mention of the Holy Guardian Angel, The Sacred Magick of Abra-Melin, The Mage, trans. MacGregor Mathers (available online in .pdf format) and 21st Century Mage by Jason Augustus Newcomb.  The second being a bit easier to comprehend as it is written in modern rather than archaic English.

Quote3. and finally is there any harm in performing simple spells (candle magic) ?

The short answer, no.

The long answer, not really.  The only danger there is that you will mistake progress in simple ritual as actual progress as a person, and overuse of such rites can lead to materialistic mindsets in which the only purpose of magic is the esoteric pursuit of the mundane.

I try to keep a balance of "simple" (I wish it lived up to it's nickname) and "high" magick.  That way I keep away from thinking that life is only about spirituality and the material doesn't matter much, and vice versa.

Balance in all things is key to enlightenment, I feel.

so its good to meditate after LBRP if you want for higher knowledge and 'energy refil' ?

bloodsong anyknowledge on rune magic and or doing magic with music ?

Shueisha

correct me if I'm wrong but once you have done LBRP and meditate u can talk to your HGA and ask questions??

sorry if its dumb but I'm confused

bloodsong

I'm going to reply to both of you, Ryuji and Shueisha, in this single post in an effort to cut any post clutter to a minimum.  Hope it doesn't cause any confusion.

First, Ryuji, meditation after the LBRP takes place in what amounts to an astral vacuum.  In practical work, i.e. rituals that you are doing to affect a change in your physical existence, follow up ritual is done to fill that space with the intent of the change, mold it, shape it, charge it, give it instructions, etc. and this is all followed up with a second LBRP to send it on its way.

By meditating on yourself rather than doing practical work, you affect a change within your Self every time.  Sometimes, oftentimes, actually, the change is small, and not seen as very important at the time.  As these build up, though, if the changes are kept track of properly, then it is easy to see how large a difference meditation and ritual make in your life.  The meditation inside this purified space, this astral vacuum, allows no outside influence that you don't purposely bring with you, such as music, incense, or other tools and such.  Continual use in this way leads to the loss of need for such tools, though.  With the possible exception of music, though.  I have a theory on why that seems to be, but I will refrain from putting that here, it really would be a digression, and I commit enough of those normally, another would just be too much.

Now, on that note, though, I will segue into the little I do know about using music as magic, or at least as a tool, since you asked.

First off, I am completely orphaned of talent in the playing of musical instruments, and have poor ability in dancing.  This will not stop me from commenting though, as I have two things that make up for this, a friend I can ask about playing music as a ritual and my own brazenness for actually performing dance rituals in public!

First off, I have a friend who uses music, mostly guitar and drumming, in his works all the time.  He is a Christian, so of course he calls it prayer rather than magic or ritual, but it amounts to the same thing.  What he does is thinks about what is troubling him, what he is thankful for, or whatever he wishes to pray about, then just starts improvising on the instrument of choice.  I have been friends with him for a long time and am fortunate enough to share such a deep bond to him as a friend that he has allowed me to sit in on several of these sessions of prayer, and I must say the experiences were very powerful just sitting ten feet away, I can imagine how he felt while doing this.

As for the use of dance, it is excellent when you just can't seem to get into trances any other way!  The choice of music must be driving, repetitive, and something that you can get lost in.  My favorite way of doing this, I head down to the local raves, stay sober, and just start dancing.  Now, as I said, I have horrible actual ability in doing this, but two things are at work here: 1) I want to trance, and can't do it any other way, and 2) everyone else is pretty much too high to care.  They will probably just thing I am too high if they aren't, so it all balances out.

To others here, if that sounds familiar, it is because it was stolen directly out of 21st Century Mage by Jason Newcomb, a book I highly recommend.

Anyway, that dancing in that situation, with the combo of sound, light, and non-conscious, yet controlled, movement, really can get you into a deep trance rather quickly once you let go.  Once you realize you are tranced, just start what you wanted to do while in trance, you body will continue moving.  Yes, this can be done at home with a CD player or radio station (yay, XM), but unless you have the lights and the means to pay the electric bill to run it all, you miss out on a big part!

Now I will move on to Shueisha's question.  You wanted to know if simply doing the LBRP and then meditating will allow you to speak with your Holy Guardian Angel.  The answer is an annoying, Yes, but not really.

No matter what spiritual path you follow, the HGA is there, sometimes called the Higher Self, the Christ Consciousness, BuddaMind, et cetera ad infinitus nauseous.  The basic thing to remember about the HGA, no matter what you call it, is that you are already united with it, you just don't know it.

Think of it another way.  Think of people who have received major head injuries and must learn, upon awaking from a coma, to walk, talk, and generally cope with life again. These folks have been totally divorced with conscious working knowledge of some part of themselves they used to know so intimately that it was mainly taken for granted!

That is the exact same situation with most people, and their Holy Guardian Angels.  Since it is a part of the Self, just "forgotten", it must be discovered, inspected, and integrated.  Meditation is the best tool for this because it helps to peel away the dross of Ego, Desire, and so called Life to reveal the hidden diamond in the lotus, if I may use a Zen metaphor here.

Once that diamond, the Holy Guardian Angel is discovered, meditation upon it allows one to learn more about it, to turn it around, so to speak, until it is familiar, only then can one be sure exactly where they puzzle piece fits to Integrate it back into the Self in the best way.

So does the LBRP lead straight to the HGA, yes, but even straight roads can have obstacles, and be very long as well.

Well, sorry to say this, but right now, there is no way to alter active DNA.  In other words, if you are a living breathing being of more than a single cell, you are pretty much stuck with the genetics you have.  The reason is multi-faceted, but basically boils down to the fact that it would be extremely time consuming, expensive, and, most intrusive to its development, unethical.

The best thing, find someone smarter than you, and trust me, no matter how bright you are there are brighter stars out there, and get to culling stupidity the old fashioned way.
