Astral Projection

Last night I went to sleep, and at first I listened to Boxed Nirvana. So at first I relaxed as much as I could, and I was counting to 40 (to clear my mind). Inhale 1, Exhale, Inhale 2, Exhale..... Next I did, I just lied down *trying* to not to think but thoughts were flooding my mind  . But that didn't stopped me. I was lying down relaxed. After a while I felt vibrations. They were weak, but I could feel it in my arms and my legs, but not in my stomach nor head\neck. And I wasn't in trance at all! I could open my eyes or shrink (I don't know proper word, but I think you'd understand) face. So I just lied about half an hour and nothing... Just these "vibrations"..
So does anyone have any tip for me. For clearing my mind and or what to do when achieve these vibrations? Oh, almost forgot.. when I use these "exercises" I mentally feel falling (if you know what I mean).. Is this helpful?

And I have very often this vibration-like feeling in one of my legs. Last night it was in my right leg. While I was feeling these vibes in my limbs, this vibration-like feeling just faded in on my right leg. And fading was ping-pong like (fade in, fade out).... What is this? Is this usual?

First, the 'falling down' sensations are trance.  Maybe light trance, but trance  nonetheless.  Vibrations are exit sensations.  When you get vibrations you can ignore them or try to 'go with them'.  If you want to do the latter, try an exit technique while the vibrations are happening.  There are many kinds, and they don't all work every time.  Everybody knows 'rope', there are also 'skiing', and other types like 'rocking' or 'jumping' that I use and work fairly well.

Seems to me you have a problem I had before, which is trying too hard :o

Go read Frank's thread about phasing in the FAQs if you haven't already:

Pay particular attention to the part about the word "noticing"... I think reading this advice totally changed my approach to projecting, and has helped me a great deal in crossing the line between conscious and unconscious.

Perhaps it will help you like it helped me...

Astral Projection

Ok thanks guys.
But what concerns me is that I *know* that I'm not in trance. What I meant to say is that I'm too aware. I said before that I can move my face like in every day life. Is this normal? I thought that when we are in trance that we are paralised? So I can't exit the body while I can do all this things with my face? And one more question. Can I get to trance that fast (15-20mins)?

It's not that you can move your face, but the fact that your mind is focused on being able to move your face. You've got to focus away from your body. Don't think about how long it should take. Just let it happen.

Good Luck

I think what is troubling me the most is the lack of a technique to blank the mind of all thought... I'm going to try the ganzfeld ping pong ball thing!

QuoteYou've got to focus away from your body.
I was reading about phasing and Frank says that we should focus on inside.. Noticing.. I will try that tonite. And I wasn't focusing on to my face, but when I was countin (or focusing on to my limbs or vibrations, or smth) I noticed that my face isnt relaxed so I gotta relax it.

QuoteBut beyond Deep Somnambulism the physical body wont move even if you think to allow it to move.
So this somnabulism is actually trance?

QuoteFirst, the 'falling down' sensations are trance.
But I feel this only when I focus on my body. When I focus on it, I can feel that it is heavier and I get this falling sensation.

QuoteI think what is troubling me the most is the lack of a technique to blank the mind of all thought..
same here...
That ping pong ball I won't try for now. First I'm going to finish downloading Frank's (hypnotist) CD. Maybe that'll help me...

I've always had these EXTREMELY PAINFUL vibrations in my legs at night from time to time, which wake me up.
The next day it hurts soooo much.
I never thought they could be AP-related. But, I've never felt OBE/AP vibrations, so I don't know if they're similar/related or not...

Also, usually when experiencing emotion when I hear about something either really good or really bad happening to someone, I've always got very strange chills/possibly vibrations through my entire body..

And when my mother used to make me go to church, I would think about the concept of God, and I guess I would drain out everything else in my mind, and get those same chills.

Sorry, I guess I just posted something totally unhelpful to you in your topic. -.-

You don't necessarily have to think nothing to enter a trance - in fact, it might actually be counter-productive. ("... This is effective enough as a way to achieve meditative states of consciousness, but too often it has the awkward side effect of producing mystics who can reach profound spiritual states but can't think clearly. ")

Here's an excellent article on Druid meditation by John Michael Greer:

I think this approach is more sound, and more feasible.
A certain degree of neurosis is of inestimable value as a drive, especially to a psychologist - Sigmund Freud

Maybe that's my problem...
:meditate:   Does the ability to fall asleep almost in any position and circumstance qualify as 'achieving profound spiritual states'?

kiwibonga

I think it means you're a big sleepy-head :)

But more seriously, the ability to fall asleep easily is an excellent skill to achieve trance -- understanding how falling asleep works gives you a much better idea of what it feels like to lose consciousness, and will ultimately be a great help for trancing (and hence, "achieving profound spiritual states").

I think someone who doesn't understand how to fall asleep, spends hours and hours tossing and turning in bed before they finally close their eyes and snore out of exhaustion is going to have to do a lot of work on their sleep before considering astral projection, lucid dreaming, etc...
