some one tried to explain 4d to me one time like this,

imagine a line no matter how you look at it its just a line,(1d)
now imagine pulling that line untill its a square(2d)
now you tug on that square untill its a cube(3d)
now tug on the cube untill you have two cubes overlapping into themselves, thats 4d
kind of like the astral pulse logo at the top left of the page with the woman then the astral body emerging half way out
Is the astral body always there we just don't see it in the 3d world because its beyond comprehension?

You don't actually have two cubes when you go into 4D... We have no way of representing the fourth dimension in a graph -- or at least not in such a way that it would make sense. The more scientific 4D representations have a cube with extra faces that are floating "in limbo" -- it's pretty confusing!

There's an easier way to represent a fourth dimension for our chimp brains, though :)

Imagine a movie in 3D. When the image is still, you are visualising only three dimensions, that's the maximum we can perceive.

Imagine that you have a slider that you can move left and right that allows you to rewind or play out the movie. Here, you could say that time is the fourth dimension. Every time you add a dimension, you add a "state" to the other dimensions.

For example, in a 2D graph, Y at a given X represents the current "state" (which is actually the position on the XY plane) of a plotted point (X,Y)

It becomes a problem with the 5th dimension, though, as we run out of human-friendly concepts :P

EDIT: Whoops, forgot to say how it relates to the astral!

Take this time slider in the 3D movie example I gave. Imagine you have a dial that you can turn left and right to "scan" dimensions, like if you were switching stations on a radio. It is much more complex than the time example, since different dimensions have different properties (and planes above what is referred to as "the mental plane" are devoid of space and time), but the example still works in terms of the self.

Your "spirit" is multidimensional, this means it exists on all planes to a certain extent, or rather, that your consciousness can exist on all planes.

When you "turn the dial" and phase out of the physical, you are experiencing the "current" state of your self in another dimension.

And I don't really like to say "current" since it is related to time... Which doesn't really exist! To confuse you even more, it's possible to place your consciousness in more than one plane at a time (and to a certain extent, you are influenced by those planes in a way).

Rosalind McKnight's book (Cosmic Journeys: My out of body travels with Robert Monroe) has a lot of more-or-less in-depth information about the different dimensions of the self, it can be a very interesting read, since entities channeled from dimensions that we cannot reach for as long as we are human attempt to explain how our multi-dimensional consciousness works.

It is pretty similar to Frank's (and Elias's) phasing model, I would say it explains it much more clearly, but I wouldn't be able to tell which one is most accurate :O

hmm that complicates things quite a bit
