honestly, i dont know what im doing wrong... i just sort of lay there and get numb and thats like, as far as i can get. i tried relaxing my mind, but i keep thinking of things, and when i even get close to anything, i fall asleep before i realize it! i had small vibrations once i think, but i cant do anything anymore! am i trying to hard? too often? i dont know what im doing wrong but im starting to give up, because it seems just too far out of my reach. i dont know what to do
any suggestions..ideas...would be really appreciated...

did it ever happen to you as a kid randomly?

Try Boxed Nirvana II
http://gnomad.info/Boxed-Nirvana-II.zip

I used it last night, the first time I ever tried projecting, worked pretty well. Here's what it did for me:

you could try attempting to AP at a different time of day, next weekend try setting your alarm clock for about 8 in the morning, then when it rings you should be awake but still extremely relaxed, this is undoubtedly one of the best times to attempt to AP, let your mind wander into the hypnogogic state, where you start to see random images and thoughts, but hang onto these images and your mind should stay awake as your body falls deeper into sleep.

Also trying AP during an afternoon nap can also work well. Make sure you're nice and relaxed and take time to let yourself slip into the hypnogogic state, the most important thing is to not be consciously thinking about anything, even the intention to AP, just let your mind wander, and attempt to notice the hypnogogic state while still conscious, and get in plenty of practise.

I didn't know there was a whole word for that. :)
Last night I saw an eagle pop into my head for some reason.
I imagined being the eagle, then flying down by a river.
I turned around, flew fast along the river, and to the end of it, where for some reason I imagined my physical body laying.
As I reached my physical body, I swooped up, and would feel a weird 'woosh' sensation.

So, I guess this is a good idea.
Take whatever images you get, and focus on them, letting your mind tell you what to do with them. :)

i'm really new to this too i stumbled upon this sight yesterday
but when i was a kid it happened just sort of on its own
i think what helped though is the fact that i had heard that you can control your dreams (on an episode of ghost busters now that i think of it,huh)
anyway i used to have alot of nightmares about monsters and stuff
now i knew there weren't such things so i knew that if i was confronted with monsters i was dreaming and  knew that i could control the enviroment so when i came face to face with a monster ide say somthing like oh yeah take this
then ide imagine that i had a ghost buster blaster thingy and shoot the hell out of these monsters that were always chasing me
eventually i didn't really have monster nightmares anymore but would still be able to figure out if i was dreaming simply by how strange the situation was (seven dwarfs in the living room, i think not)
so i would just tell myself "i can fly i can fly"
then i pretty sure the frequency of actual OBE went up
because there was nothing weird happening
my family was sleeping i could see i was sleeping and ide just go flying around the neighborhood
this is all just coming back to me now so sorry for being rambly
but i figure if i was doing it without all these techniques and being aware of what i was doing maybe its easier not to overthink it
oh yeah!
there was this article i read in the weekly world news about astral projection when i was really young and it said you can go anywhere in the world while you sleep so as to save money on vacations(ha)
it said that just before you go to sleep tell yourself"i'm going to remember everything" over and over again or picture where youd like to go
i did it and it seemed to work
hope it helps
now that i remember all this i think i'm gonna try it again

mitch, thats exactly how i attempt to induce the vibrations, i concentrate on these weird strange random images, until i realise just how deeply in the hypnogogic state i am, then i attempt to will myself to AP, only got as far as vibrations in about 2 weeks tho :(

lol o well, gonna keep at it. it sounds like you maybe slipped into a dream, but dreams induced through a conscious hypnogogic will usually be very enjoyable and potentially lucid.

EDIT: i love u mitch, lol

also, hiyoshi, its good that you have found what works best for you, continue to develop this and you'll find you learn more about yourself to help induce some of the best OBE.

Take a break from the practise and let your mind get disentangled from the effort.
Usually too much effort is counterproductive and if continued will eventually stop you from having any experiences.

wow thats great stuff, thanks for the help everyone..
well, i've never accidentally had an OBE as a child, i have in the past had some pretty amazing lucid dreams though, but only about twice i think... well i guess if anyone is good at translating dreams, this would be a good one to try and interpret! so please, i'm open to all suggestions i'd just like to know what it might mean?

well i was flying through the galaxy... past all the stars in the whole universe (it was seriously amazing, all these gorgeous lights were surrounding me) and i was flying past all these planets we havent even discovered yet.. and i landed on Mars as it was a long, long time ago. There were several tornadoes, and earthquakes, and this man took me to another man's house where he kept a greenhouse with toads & plants (dont ask, i really dont know!) and then is when it became SUPER real, i mean there was this table in the middle of the room with candles, placemats, utinsels, and i could FEEL it all as if i was really there! and i talked to this man, and he said "Can you tell i'm real?" and i said "yes" then he replied "You're lucky, you figured out the formula, and others will figure it out after you and will be able to do as you do" and he told me some quick formula, but unfortunately i cant remember it... and then i sat down at the table, and i remember just feeling it, like it was so amazing... i couldnt believe it was so real!

so, i wonder if lucid dreams really mean anything at all, or maybe it was just random? who knows? i'd really like to hear opinions from anyone though! ^_^ that would be great, & thanks for everyones input before.. i will definetly try different times to OBE and thanks for all the great ideas/advice

i personally believe that dreams are stories and images randomly put together in your head, i believe during the REM stage when you dream, your brain is just drawing on random thoughts and memories it has stored up, and can create new images and environments by combining these images. however this is purely my own interpretation.
