my brand new (used) haunted kitchen

So....... we bought a 9-month old used modular Ikea kitchen, and it appears to be haunted! :-o  Major symptoms include banging and noises against the wood and metal throughout the day and evening that cannot be explained, and some fooling around with a difficult-to-manipulate water source in the wall that almost got out of hand.

I get a lot of ghosts and shadows and lights and spirits anyway (you name it, I've got it) but the new kitchen furniture in particular seems to have a lot of activity centered around it.  I don't mind, and even though it's spilled over in the past few days to the living room, the energy is neutral to positive, IMO, so no problem so far.  Some minor grumpiness in the living room but only from being disturbed, thats all as far as I can tell.  Other than that, just an uptick in neutral lights, "fuzz" and shadows centered in roughly the same area.  The cats are interested but not nonplussed.

But I am very amused and curious as to how this relatively new, plain, ikea kitchen has acquired such strong attachments.  I guess it's also possible that whatever spirits were here already really took a liking to the kitchen, who knows.  We've already lived here for about 6 months, and very little was removed from the existing kitchen to move this stuff in.

Does anyone have any actual possible explanations?

Sentinal

More evidence would be needed for an explanation. History of the house, history of the kitchen, etc. Trying to offer an explanation without facts would be nothing but speculation.

sashamasha

In fact, I am looking for speculation.

All the history I have about the furniture, and my relevant history in this place was in the first post.

I am not trying to build a case history, or prove or disprove a haunting via scientific method.  I know the stuff is haunted.  I'm just here to gather other people's ideas or experiences with newish furniture etc. having strong attachments.

It's hard to see the value of theories out of the air that would have no relation to your situation. I don't tottaly discount oberservations but I feel it is necessary to question them if you are looking for the truth. Senses play tricks, as do people.

If you wish me to approach it from my intuition mode I can do that also. Since you said there was something going on before it is possible that it is the change that has upset everything. It is not necessarily a haunting though. Have you thought about a poltergeist? You should especially consider that if you have a teenage child in the house. The length of time that the previous incidents were going on would also have some relevence as would any other conflicts that may be going on in the house.

I was hoping that you would add more because I have a strong feeling that there is something missing or wrong in the story.

sashamasha

Point taken.  Ok, previous activity is really just centered around me.  I'll try to do this in a nutshell:

since childhood I've had the following experiences, some of which come and go in waves, reaching a crescendo about 2 years ago but still developing without much effort on my part: clairaudience (voices of ghosts in house, hearing thoughts-- albeit only in whispers, hearing phantom music, hearing as many as 3 separate pieces of music at once  and being able to control them like a CD player is totally normal for me-- luckily I am a musician), OBE (which stopped just before puberty till several years ago I'd guess), interaction with ghosts (knowing what they want, who they are, where they are), communication with animals (patchy, but when it's clear it's very very clear and complex), huge overwhelming empathy with most people against which I often have to shield myself, healing energy work (learned via reiki but whatever it is, its not reiki now);

seeing ghosts or shadows, seeing orbs (white, cream, or blue), seeing spirits (usually sketchy white things), seeing other entities such as what I guess are guides in the form of brilliant lights-- mine are blue, teachers and healers often have ones that are sort of burned out and dark in color but also somehow intensely bright; I've also only rarely seen what I think I don't want to see, like little tiny shadow people outside the window in impossible places; seeing what I guess are symbolic representations or reflections of people, or else some kind of hangers-on-- for example swirly grey pinwheels above negative people's heads or brilliant little tiny prickly lights above positive people... Seeing things is the most common for me.  It's just normal now. There is stuff flying all around us all the time, and often I also see changes or drops in what appear to be energy fields or points of contact between surfaces of energy fields.  Portals, who knows.  I have always seen auras, but now see them more often with color and clearer shape.

I have on occasion had broken glass or flammable "fluids" created from nothing.  Glass is likely to just happen to break around me, whether I knock something improbable over or it knocks itself over.  Wood and metal are safer, lol.  I am curious about the elements and what symbolism is there, btw.  Anyway I also often get people's dead relatives passing messages to me.  Usually they get my attention and I feel sort of a fuzz in all my senses.  Then I get images, like still postcards.  Sometimes I also just "know" things, and these can also be either messages, or helpful to me (finding stuff that's lost or seeing accidents before they happen), or warnings to me.  This part seems to be developing now, as my dreams get more and more accurate and less mired in symbolism, more literal.  I sometimes get dreams that are meant for other people, I guess so that I can relay them to people who don't recall their dreams.  It's always weird when that happens, because my own dreams are HUGE and vast and jam packed with symbols, so when I get an easy one it's like the dream filmstrip projector must be broken.

A few years ago I was almost the unwilling medium of a woman who passed.  She wrestled her way in my head and I had no idea what was going on; I felt like she wa pushing into my head in order to use my mouth, and as I spoke I felt like my voice was coming from further and further back in my head.  Scared the living crap out of me.  I felt ill for hours after. Since then (god I sound like such a total fruitcake) my CAT told me that I had a hole in my energy field, which a couple people later fixed for me.  The cat is happy now.

I think I get a lot of accidental healings.  I am the happy victim of synchronicity very often.  I feel protected but also have the suspicion that who or whatever is protecting me really sometimes has a lot on his or her hands.  I call for angels often and feel their presence, though I doubt they are actually angels, more like some kind of crazy big energy that I couldn't put into better words.  I do cleansing, I do grounding.  My lower 3 chakras are slow to get going but that's the only thing spriritually really "wrong" with me as far as I know.

So, how was that for a nutshell about me?  The apartment, like all my apartments have been, is an old major German city.  There are for sure a lot of spirits here.  Everywhere.  The country is loaded with them.  The kitchen came from a family with no teenagers (a single woman and her young daughter, who sold it to move in with her new husband), and is less than 9 months old.

Up till we brought the kitchen in, we had the usual ghosts and zooming things, etc., but no major disturbances.  Very tame.  But for whatever reason, everyone loves to bang on the kitchen.

Who else lives there and what is their perception?

kiwibonga

Ikea is the devil! Tree killers!

Or perhaps the furniture just doesn't like the silly names? :P

But seriously, was there a table in that kitchen you bought? Maybe it was used as a ouija board?

haha kiwi I would be ticked to be a tree and get those names, too.

yes there is also a table.  I will try to pay closer attention to whether it comes from there as well.

my BF also lives here, and he is sensitive but we've only very recently talked openly about it, so I don't have a complete picture of his abilities yet, nor does he have the vocabulary to tell me, which he is doing veeeeeeery cautiously and slowly, despite knowing all my craziness.  I have never noticed a particular spirit or energy around him, which is odd, though I have seen things and spirits in his childhood home that clearly are extremly protective of him and his family.  My BF has a VERY strong energy, very vital and warm.

he sees things and knows genders and what they want, and he looks in the direction of stuff that I see (without my telling him or turning my own head or even moving my eyes) about 25% of the time.  he also is able to guess things extremely well, and is often informed of thing people are doing miles away without having any reason to know.  his official line for most of his life was "ghosts don't exist," but he never actually believed that.  He also is able to communicate with animals (we have 2 cats) on a very high level without really knowing what he is doing.  He is able in many circumstances in life to sort of free himself up and make himself available to whatever energy or intelligence is speaking to or through him, IMO.

He also hears the banging and creaking and also believes it is a spirit.  He calls it our Houseghost, which is what I used to call my guy in my NY apartment, long before I ever met my BF.  I never told him what I called him.

sashamasha

well the banging has stopped, we went away for the weekend and since then I haven't heard a thing.  BUT.  Since we came back I have been noticing a sort of odd thing: when I am in the kitchen it often appears as if the furniture is moving, or like a few minutes ago like the ground sort of buckles for a second.  Like there is some kind of force field around it and when I walk through it, my perception changes.  No I don't have any inner-ear problems, I'm not sick, etc.. It's just in the kitchen, whether or not I am alone.  Just for a moment, but it's rather disorienting.  This has happened maybe 6 times in the past 3 days. Weird!

Anyway it's just interesting, nothing serious.  I've experienced something similar in the past but never ever so often, or so close together.

I think is probably nothing to do with the kitchen. This may be closer to a poltergeist phenomenon. Disturbances often center around people that are sensitive. The feeling that I get is that there is a communications issue between you and your BF that you may or may not be aware of. Stresses cause by that may be contributing to this.

sashamasha

Hm.  Well, we certainly did have a gigantic communications issue (he was hiding something pretty big) for a very long time, which was finally brought out in the open several months ago and led to a LOT of serious discussions and arguments and unhappiness.  But the hardest parts of that are behind us, and led the way to a lot of actual learning and appreciation about and for one another, and in many ways a more realistic and deeply appreciative love.  The arrival of the kitchen doesn't really correlate to any of that, though.

Well... actually the thing he was hiding had to do with an ex of his who really loved to cook.  I'm not a big cook.  So maybe... ?  Dunno.

I would try to find out who the previous owners were and why they got rid of it in the first place. Maybe they experienced the same thing and it was just too much for them to deal with.

I've never heard of spirits inhabiting furniture but I suppose anything is possible. Perhaps the ghost likes to cook.

i met the previous owners...  she was quite normal but perhaps a little artsy.  her child also seemed normal.  they loved the kitchen but were moving out of her place and in with a new husband who had a much nicer permanent one already installed.  I think the people moving into her place were possibly her ex or the ex's new wife or something.  But it didn't seem at all like an overly tense situation, all things considered.  And like I said, she'd only bought it about 9 months ago.  The stuff is quite new.  it's a totally ordinary curcumstance, by all accounts.

I've heard things again this afternoon, but the things I hear moving in there are definitely things which we owned before, ie not part of the kitchen.  So maybe we have a spirit in there who just happened to decide to move in with the kitchen.

so weird.

I don't get a strange feeling at all when I touch the stuff in there.  It's around the stuff but not in it.  I have definitely felt bad vibes from touching relatively new things in the past because of who they were used by or for what, but do not have this experience with the kitchen or anythign else in there.

Hey Sentinal, you were right.  There was another big bombshell...  I hope there aren't any more.

Sentinal

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully that is not a repeating pattern. The best thing you can do is to keep yourself centered and look at things as objectivly as you can. If you can seperate what you sense from your own emotions things should become more clear.

sashamasha

Thanks. I should have noted that it hit the fan some time ago, shortly after I posted about the kitchen.  It was actually simply another (awful) aspect of the troubles we'd had earlier, all related to the same weirdness, and was oddly something I'd assumed all along.  I wasn't surprised when I found out.

I hadn't been here in a while and I remembered this thread. I remembered being vaguely irritated when reading your responses, and thinking at the time that that probably meant you were on to something.  So annoying when that happens! :)  So I thought I'd update, even though it's been a while.

Lesson learned: stick with your gut.  Listen to the quiet voice inside and, as you say, learn to be objective on demand.

My intention is always to be helpful, but I guess I do go against the current at times :)
