First, lie in a bed or sit in a comfortable armchair.  |o| Then rest your arms on the bed or armrests, and bring your upper arms to point straight up in a right angle, relaxing your hands which should hang limply at the top. Your arms should look like this _| wherein | is your upper arm pointing up. Allow yourself to drift off to sleep, making sure to keep your arms in that position. When you drift into deeper sleep your arms will fall, which will cause you wake up after a hypnagogic experience, making it easy to recall. At this point you should probably right down any ideas you gain during the experience. Meditating on a problem or idea while drifting off will allow you to explore it hypnagogically in your subconscious, thus making it a great way to deal with issues or ideas.

Wow, sounds amazing, I've never heard this technique.
Thanks a lot, I'll try it sometime soon. :)

Can this also help towards APing or is that the whole idea. lol

Yes astral projection, out of body experiences, lucid dreaming, and hypnagogia are all related. Consciousness during hypnagogia can help you towards astral projection and the other states.

Sweet, this sounds like something I ought to try, I'm looking for any technique to get me to my goal of projecting.  :-D

I also received a suggestion from someone in a chat that melatonin might help, since I've got some I will see if melatonin causes any noticeable difference and report.

A good explanation of hypnagogia can be found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnagogia

Basically it is the dreamlike state between sleeping and waking. You experience it often when going to sleep or waking up, although most people aren't conscious of it most of the time.

Synergy

People with Narcolepsy often wake in hypnagogia... and experience hypnagogic hallucinations consciously.  In a way, I think they have an advantage as far as OBEs are concerned.  Though I do not have narcolepsy and I find myself waking in that stae often.... and also falling asleep I can pretty much determine the exact point at which sleep takes over, though that came with practice.

Great technique though!

Wow, I didn't realize that, I have that all the time, I'll have to give APing a try in Hypnagogia.  I never tried to AP like that before because everytime I'm in that state I just feel to tired and then go back to sleep.  So from now on I'll just force myself to do it.

Well I gave this a try a couple of times, the first time I fell asleep and when my arms fell I never woke up, then the second time I tried I fell asleep and when I woke up my arms were still in the same position. lol
So I guess I could keep trying or just wait for the hypnagogia to happen naturally, which happens fairly often.  8-)
