Hi guys, my interest in astral projection has laid dormant for a few months, however lately I've found it worming it's way into the back of my mind. I had quite the chilling experience the other night, and I'm still not quite sure whether it was a lucid dream, projection, or whatever. But I remember almost drifting off to sleep when I experienced the notion of being able to see through my eyelids, however I couldn't move. I was on my back, and upon opening my eyes the first thing that I saw was a big black hand (no body, just a hand), palm facing me and fingers stretched out, grabbing for my face. I instantly awoke and sat up in bed. It doesn't seem like a huge deal, except that I had a similar experience as a child, only the hand was reaching from behind me to cover my mouth, back then I just shrugged it off, but it seems to have more relevance now that it has happened again. I have always remained open to the thought of conciously projecting, however now it completely terrifies me. I'm not sure whether I should be afraid of some trauma rooted in my subconcious that is creating these images, or a mischievous entity that resides in the astral plane.
Any thoughts?

Either of the two you mentioned are in reality, not that scary at all. If it's your subconscious then it's something to overcome and if it's an entity on the astral plane then it is only there to intimidate and not to harm at all. What should scare you the most is the infinite amount of love that you cannot yet experience at this level of consciousness.

If it happens again, surrender to the hand. Do not try to escape it. Only then will you overcome it.

Sounds like Hallucinatory Sleep Paralysis. I experience it here and there...it often occurs when people sleep on their backs. They cannot move but they can see (some believe their eyes partially open, I also believe there's also an astral vision people can experience), in that state the mind creates hypnagogic hallucinations. They take the form of entities quite often. Years I experienced terrifying attacks from spirits and creatures. Now when I go into paralysis no one comes...and frequently I use this state to go out of body.

I wish I could tell you what changed when the attacks ceased...I don't really know. They just went away.

This is a great bit of advice during my 'experimenting days' I had one terrifying experience which I havent forgotten, but although it scared me to my core it made me realise that if something is not really there, then it cannot hurt you. Have you ever been alone in the house and heard little bumps and noises, creaks in the middle of the night? It could simply be a floorboard but your imagination blows it well out of proportion and you become terrified of nothing.

With my previous experience i mentioned earlier i found that this particular 'entity' which was trying to 'attack' me was in fact completely harmless, after i stopped staring at it in fear i got up and walked straight into it. I felt a cold chill, but realised it couldnt hurt me, as it wasnt there. Do what Awakened_Mind has said. You will find that confronting something is usually nowhere near as scary as your mind percieves it. good luck.
