Hey all, I know it's sort of obnoxious to start without first introducing myself ina thread, but you all seem like pretty nice people that won't yell at me, eh?
I'm Adam. Yup. Now ya know me! Anyways...

I've recently been trying to astrally project. Trances and the like are nothing new to me as I've delved into self-hypnotism and such, but this seemed very interesting. Anyways, I've been trying to use the rope method (by Robert Bruce) after completely relaxing my body and clearing my mind. I consistently seem to black out/drift off to sleep after about a minute, then become aware (I'm not sure how much later, but it seems to be about 5 - 10 minutes). At this point I feel very strong vibrations. I can definitely sense my astral arms, and I try pulling the rope again, but I seem to not be able to get anywhere with it. The farthest I've gotten is starting to partially see part of my room in a purple-ish light. One other time I may have done something further where I was in a light-filled room, but I barely remember that and it definitely wasn't my room. Is it possible I projected but then forgot most of it?

It seems that the problem is being able to see and escape where my body is. I feel like i can move my astral head, arms, etc without moving my physical head/arms/etc, but I'm still trapped in the space my body occupies and i can't see anything. ROPE doesn't seem to be working after a point, so how can I pull myself out?

Danka! Hopefully this wasn't too obnoxious  :-P,
Adam

First off, welcome to the Astral Pulse, Adam.

This is a fairly common problem and is answered differently depending on who you ask. You might need a deeper level of trance, enough to loosen your astral body. If getting out dosen't seem to be working, maybe try relaxing a little more.

Or... what I would suggest is instead of moving "out", move "in". Quiet your mind and keep a passive observation of what you see or hear. Instead of the standard OBE exit, you might "phase" or something else. It's just as cool, if not easier. Read some of the posts on phasing if you haven't heard of it. Especially the ones by Frank.

Sounds interesting... I haven't ever heard of that, but I'll give it a looksee!

Hi bugclimber

To add to what Stookie said...

I've noticed that quite a few people struggle with the Rope technique.  It's never worked for me.

It doesn't surprise me really, because trying to recreate the tactile sensations and emotions of pulling yourself up from a horizontal position by a rope is not something most of us have done in physical reality, so it's difficult to imagine.

The easiest exit I can offer is to roll out.  Once you feel you are ready to exit, you simply roll over (as if you are turning in your sleep) and hopefully you should find that you have exited by rolling.  It will feel as real as if you have physically rolled over, and as you reach the end of the bed, if you find you don't land on the ground in an almight crash, then you have successfully separated from the physical!  :-D

Good luck!

Sarah

P.S. I like your nickname - how did you choose that?  :-)
We all find nonsenses to believe in; it's part of being alive.

Haha, wow. I was wondering what the roll out technique was... But the name is so misleading how could i have guessed

I'll try that! Also, bugclimber was made up when I was... 5 for my first e-mail address. I liked bugs and climbing... i've used it ever since, and I'm 0pretty much the only Bugclimber on the internet!

Sorry to double post, but I have an update.

Today i had to do a little skit in church so I had to go to two services. In between services i had free time so I went down to the youth room to try this again. It was the first time I've tried to project during the day, so it was easier to not fall asleep. I was able to consciously get vibrations! I was even able to see a little for a few seconds. I just couldn't get out! I knew if I tried to roll out my body would just end up rolling, and ROPE didn't work. Gah! Are there any other techniques?

Hey Adam!
Great job on reaching the vibrational state. Your're really close to getting it.
Next time when your reach the vibrational state calm your mind and tell yourself you are getting lighter over and over. feel yourself float up. then will your astral vision and hopefully you will be projecting!
Oh and phasing is some good stuff! you should check it out.
Hope that helps
