Has anyone tried repeating affirmations to themselves at night, before they fall asleep, that they will lucid dream?

For example, "I will become aware in my dreams" or "My dream will become lucid"..?

I have tried to become consciously aware within my dreams by doing this technique, with little success.  However, my dream recollection and dream recall has improved, and I can remember my dreams a lot better than I used to.

Am I on the right track?  My ultimate goal is to have an oobe, but I'm having difficulties.

Before going to sleep, I look at my hands and ask myself if I am sleeping.
This is a good method to use throughout the day and before bed.

Although by doing this before bed alone, I am able to achieve lucidity in my dreams.

You could try this subliminal affirmation CD.  InnerTalk CDs use low-level affirmations masked by music or ocean sounds.  i think they might work:

On the other hand please do AVOID the BMV series which uses "ultrasonic ultra-silent subliminal programming" which cannot work, because the human ear can not hear ultrasound.  Read the amazon review (with a pinch of salt!) which says it all...

Ha, if only I had money to purchase it.  I'll consider the example affirmation on the page to repeat to myself, though.  Thanks :)

It's more a matter of wanting and I-know/believe-I'm-going-to-achieve-it-right-now than a thing of subliminal tapes. ANYWAY it's true that subliminal messages are really effective only and if only they're combined with a feeling of DETERMINATION (I'll get it, whatever I'll have to do), EXPECTATION (don't get bored and be wishful even if you get stuck) and FAITH ("I do know I'll get it").

I passed many months trying to achieve a LD without success, even if I put in practice every exercise, every trick and every tape I found. I desisted for a while, and when I took it back I reconsidered my attitude and I mixed the "messages" with faithful feelings and... I obtained a LD in the first try!

So, my advice: take it as a game, don't be in a rush, mix techniques with feelings, be very faithful and, very important, be inspired and check every month if your attitude is the correct one in order to get to your goal.

Good luck, friend! :-D

Very sound advice.  Also, rather than say "I will have a lucid dream" (which makes it a future event and therefore open to possibilities), say, "I am lucid" as you fall asleep.

As andonitxo explains, the expectation of knowing it will happen is a huge factor, certainly from my experience.

Excellent advice - I second that!  :-)

I shall try that tonight!!  Thank you for your help :)

Affirmations are a good way to prepare you for a lucid dream but i also use a reality check. The way it works is to come up with a trigger such as looking at the back of your hands and tell yourself that you are dreaming. Before I go to sleep I repeat to my self several times "I shall dream and I shall control it. I shall dream and I shall control it."

The combination of both techniques is for me a pretty effective method. By doing the reality check several times a day to start with it soon becomes second nature even in your dreams. The affirmation also mentally sets me up to control the dream. I have also noticed that my dream recall is much stronger and I've found it easier and easier to notice the oddities that tell me that I am dreaming.

I lucid dream practically every night. So keep at it and you will find that it does get easier with practice.   :-D

Quotemix techniques with feelings, be very faithful and

Please tell me how you guys are able to do this, how can i "fake" a emotion or feeling like this, or bringing it like this without something making me have it... For most i try having such emotion or feeling, nothing happens, the most i can do is trying to "recreate" it, but it seems kinda weak and fake, does affirmations work with this kind of emotions and feelings as well ?

To achieve LD's you need to absolutely immerse yourself and obsess in the subject.  Beg, borrow or buy a load of books on Lucid Dreams, Astral Projection and read read read.  Try to recollect your dreams and think to yourself "hmm I was flying in that one how weird - next time I'll remember to think it's weird at the time".  If you just immerse yourself in it so you are obsessed, you will begin to recall your dreams and begin to notice that you are dreaming when it's happening.  This is how I started years ago, and it's now just absolute second nature to me.  I'm so "programmed up" now that I very frequently just fly around in my dreams, and that then makes me lucid...  Hope this helps...

Well, not exactly what i asked, since i said that about most psychic abilities in general and not just lucid dreaming, but of course what you said also helps, so thanks for the advice, even tough unfortunately i have other priorities than lucid dreaming (i am talking about psychic abilities mostly) but regarding lucid dreaming, believe me i have readed a lot over the last years and so much stuff, believe me that it's not necessary to buy any books for this... Besides i don't "trust" much what is said on books, no matter how "good" they are.

By the way just tell me one more thing : is it possible to develop lucid dreaming WITHOUT having to write a dream diary in the morning ?! This is absolutly not practical do me, since the few times i tryed to do this i spend most than one hour to write douzens and douzens of things, this is way too muck work to me, there HAS to be some way to develop lucid dreaming without using dream diarys...

I do understand what you mean, because I passed for such a state (of not being able to mix a desire feeling with a thought).

First off, you need to know yourself and to know how you function. I mean, how you process emotion.

Sit down in your sofa and take to your mind a feeling of goodness or achivement you had in the past. Observe how you feel, your physical sensations, your side-thoughts. Do the same with a bad experience and observe the same.

Jot down how you function internally. Then, try to extrapolate those feelings to your new exercises.

Hi cesm23

No you do not have to keep a dream journal.  When I was first interested in LD/AP I used to journal all of my experiences, but after a while I lost interest in all this journal-keeping, since as you say it's very time-consuming.  This didn't affected my LD/AP'ing, but by this time it had become an integral part of my night-time life, so perhaps the journal helped a lot in the early stages.

One thing you could watch out for in your dreams is the sensation of movement.  With me, this tells me I am dreaming.  For instance

- Running effortlessly long distances
- Cycling effortlessly...
- Leaping effortlessly...
- Skiing effortlessly
- Ice-skating effortlessly..
- Roller-skating
- Spinning on the spot
- Swimming
- Diving
- Hovering
- Floating
- Flying
- Flying in a light aircraft
- Travelling in a train

etc.  I frequently dream all of these, and these are NOT normal dreams.  These dreams are the mind's interpretation of an out-of-body experience.  The sensation of movement is effortless, smooth, gliding, powerful and joyous, whether it's running, skiing, swimming or whatever.  So once I spot "effortless movement" within a dream, I know it's a special dream.  This often leads to me becoming lucid.  Do you ever have any "effortless movement" type dreams?  If so, try to recognise them for what they are...

The other thing I do a lot is to question whether I'm dreaming when I'm physically awake.  Any strange or quirky experience will get me asking myself whether I'm dreaming or not.  This habit will then extend into your dream-life too.

I don't think there are any shortcuts - I think you have to really work hard at this in the early days to get your mind working in a certain way.  But once you manage this, it will stay with you all your life, as it has done with me...

Just a note.

Keeping a diary is a hard task, indeed. But it gives you the ability to extract as many details as you can. Just do it for a while, till you have an acuter "recovering" mind.

If I did the remembering just with my mind I lost a lot of details. But I realized that I was able to "perceive" more information jotting it down.

You choose.

I started out as an avid lucid dreamer turned astral projector.

I would have to agree that the single most important tool to do is to keep that dream journal.
Once you start regularly doing that with the intent placed on lucid dreaming as well as your
affirmations it will definetely happen.

Early on in this thread someone was campaigning against BMV's suite of binaural beat CD's
under the auspices that the human ear couldn't detect the sounds. I can say that beyond a
shadow of a doubt my first 20+ OBE's were achieved with the assistance of the astral vibrations
CD played followed up by the astral projection CD. Since that time I don't use them regularly anymore,
but played back to back it was a very powerful training wheel like tool for me.

That was me taking the mick out of BMV.  If you say they worked for you then I don't doubt you.  The science behind BMV makes no sense at all, the human ear can't hear the frequencies and the audio equipment probably can't even play them!  So it shouldn't work, but stranger things have happened.

For esample, there is a man who is blind in one eye - his optic nerve is damaged, yet when tested by looking at a TV screen with his blind eye, whilst either (i) horizontal or (ii) vertical lines move across the screen, he has a 100% success rate at stating which it is, horizontal or vertical.  He can not see the lines at all, he just gets an "impression".  This is a scientific fact.  Yet his optic nerve doesn't work so how do the signals get into his brain?  Apparently there are neural connections between the retina and the brain which still work, but on a completely unconscious level, and it is these connections which result in the "impressions" he gets (which he gets 100% accurately).

So I am willing to believe that even though our physical hearing equipment is incapable of discerning the frequencies used by BMV, there may still be some sort of pathway to the brain.  I'm not really convinced at all, but I don't discount it.  I was being a bit cheeky when I made my original post, because I already had in the back of my mind the info I have just presented....!  :-)
