Useful dreams

I had a very vivid dream last night where I had a discussion with a very old man.  He told me that dreams were meant to be useful.  I was only partially lucid and did interact.  He acted like he new me but he didn't look familiar, but was very intent on getting his point across to me.  He said to me that dreams could be useful or not, it would be up to me to decide the 'usefulness' in my wakeful life (but he didn't call it that, I can't recall how he described my wakeful reality).  He told me about his guide and how he had been taught to make use of dreams.

I found that very interesting because I am interested in Shamanism.  A Shaman would use altered states to find solutions to the problems they encountered and they obviously respected their dreams with zeal.  Are we missing the point of OBE and lucidity?  Are these OBE, lucidity and altered states an important Shamanic sacrament that for some is unwittedly being used as a playground? I am not pointing a finger, only postulating a topic.  (respectfully, as this is my first post...and haven't found this brought up on this extensive forum)

Like many people I 'sleep' on a problem, but now I am curious, I would like to try an alternative Shamanic rite like the way it is speculated the Lescaux caves of France or the Maeshowe mound in Orkney islands were used.  It is believed that the sound waves would cause OBE by using rythmic sound in an acousticly perfect place.  I believe it would be very useful.

I'm new here too, but i think dreams can be a useful tool for everyone. That is why i'm interested in astral projetion nowadays like lucid dreaming too. Whenever "dream" say somethin, it would be good to hear advices etc too.

The problem that I see from dream interpretations is they tend to be so generalised and meaningless.  I think that the Shaman used to pursue their OBE's to find a solution rather than interpret.  How do you find that without knowing where you're going?  I find it facinating.

Well i think you just find the answers when asking of yourself in OOBE :) They are all there.
