you know, I was thinking about something like this before.  The show doesn't say how his power has increased.  As you know, after anything you do, you gain experience.  For example, after a burn on the hand you gain mental power which tells you not to burn yourself because it will hurt ( we all learned that one the hard way...)

So when you really think about it, yes.  From the fight, you learn what moves effectively work and which ones don't.  You also learn the opponent's strength's and weaknesses.  remember the old saying, "Knowledge is power" ?  It so is.

~Squeek (you know this isnt my style...)

Mgkeeper

i dont mean like that, i mean that your actual ki increases. Like if you could achieve a level of 100 before a fight, then it goes up to like 150 after.....

panabelle

100 what? There is no numerical way to measure Ki.

I know what you mean though. I think that Squeek is right. Actually getting stronger with Ki after a near-death fight is probably just something that the shows creator's threw in to make Saiyans cooler and to get them out of sticky situations (i.e. when they were on Namek with Captain Ginyu and...wow. Have I proven myself to be totally obsessed yet?[:D])

Strangely enough, I've found that a LOT LOT LOT of people in astral-related forums are DBZ fans. Kinda weird...[|)]

Mgkeeper

maybe dbz gets them interested in astral things. Especially having to do with ki. The idea of being able to actually shoot energy balls at ppl is neat.....

panabelle

Yep, that's how I started. [:D]

Personally I'd rather fly than shoot Ki balls (which is also very cool). Levitation to the extreme! [:P]

Mgkeeper

ya thats what i'd learn about. If i dont learn how to do anything else, i wanna be able to fly. Im sure theres a way to do it. Maybe if i take a trip to china or something. I mean think about it, the asian countries are some of the oldest countries ever, so they would know the most about stuff....

Squeek

Wow.. I would want nothing to do with flying.  flying involves responsibilities and dangers.  What if you lose concentration and fall 100 feet?  What if someone sees you?  Take these things into consideration. It's not all fun and games ya know  :)

Thats y id get so good at flying that it'd be natural to me. Kinda like walking. And its not like id fly around in the middle of the day. Id definitely be secretive about it, because the govt would love to experiment on a flying person.....

panabelle

Yeah, but if you could do Ki blasts and stuff IN ADDITION TO flying, how would they ever catch you?

Tom

Most people I cross paths with are barely observant enough to avoid walking into other people and inanimate objects. Looking 100 feet up for something they do not expect to find is asking too much.

panabelle

Yeah, you'd be surprised how little people look up. Count how many times you've done it today. Count the times you even noticed anything. Probably not a lot.

I'm probably not on the road to flying quite yet [;)] cuz I can barely make a Ki ball. Still, "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." And I have the rest of my life to work on it; I'm only 13.[:D]

how does training help increase your power? how does anyone ever become more powerful? if it is merely by experience, then playing d&d for the past 5 years would have made me into someone powerful enough that i could kill you with a glance. (d&d gives a person experience by way of the fact that you learn by "being" in situations that you are less likely, or is downright impossible, to be in IRL).

after much thought about this in my own mind, i would have to say that power comes from overcoming adversity. adversity is anything that hinders you. the greater the adversity, the greater the resulting power. for instance, when i would train, i would try to take my self as close to exhaustion as i possibly could. and that helped me gain power really quickly. but soon i learned a technique where i could push past the limits of mere exhaustion and push my self right up to the brink of death. that training really made me powerful quickly. but if you have read any of my posts that talk about my bad experiences with power, you would realize that gaining power too quickly is devastating to yourself and to your loved ones. so don't do it too fast.

Yeah, ive heard a lot on the "DBZ Theory"  MAINLY that we are capable of doing what they can and increasing our power, and yeah, i'm sure our energy increases, just like our immune system, skin, brain, etc after and trauma. :)

Piccilo is my favorite. [:P]

Kakkarot: Does physical training increase chances of being able to manipulate energy? Not just forms of karate, but running/swimming/other physical activity? I NEED to know because I've been having a little debate with myself about my current schedule.

sloppyjoe42

i think i can answer that one. i would have to say yes physical training like running, swimming, and things like that can increase your chances of manipulating energy. My reason for this is because the healthier the body is the healthier the mind is. of course this is just my opinion.

kakkarot

the reason that martial arts are so great for helping to develop abilities is that the martial arts (well, they're supposed to) demand your full attention, thereby increasing you physical, mental, and spiritual strength. if you can get running/swimming/whatever to do that, then it would be good.

panabelle

Yeah, I actually found out the answer for myself last night. As I said in another post somewhere I don't remember, our basement flooded. I had to use this piece of foam to get an inch of water off the floor everywhere with only the help of my lazy little brother who kept slacking off. The worst part was bailing it out of the windows. After about three hours I almost collapsed. But I kept going anyway and I feel a lot better now. I feel like I could accomplish more if I did energy training now. But I'm still tired so I just sit on my butt in front of the 'pooter. [:D]

Mgkeeper

Don't laugh at me but.....Anyone here ever watch DBZ?? (i know kakarot does :D) Anyways, i was wondering if something from there might aply to real ki. The main character, Goku increases his energy everytime he defeats an opponent. Does that really happen?? Could someone increase their Ki by fighting entities??
