A shortcut for getting out of my body

I came accross this method for having an OBE while reading yesterday, I wanted to share the experience that I had this morning, after using the technique.

I read about a new technique where you visualize yourself, as if you were looking down from above at your body. This morning, I had woken up for some reason (haven't been able to fall asleep very quickly/soundly until much later) I was having pretty good vibrations, but nothing really strong- I could've still moved if I had wanted to. So I began to visualize this what I had read about, and began to vizualize myself as if I was already out of my body, and looking down at my physical body from above. When I would break concentration, I would then go back to the sensation of where I actually was, which was laying on the bed. I would then concentrate again that I was suspended over my body looking down at it. I kept flip-flopping back and forth between these two points of reference, and within probably 30 seconds I was out! It was really amazing. It's definitely a short-cut to the other way of laying there and then trying to separate by rolling out etc.  I'm not sure how long after I exited this strange thing happened, but it felt like I turned into a ball of energy and shot really fast towards the wall. I felt like I was surrounded with bright light. This feeling only lasted for a second. I've never moved like that before. Usually I kind of bob around like a ghost would. After I had this feeling, I was then at the position right above my body, facing the ceiling. I was then unable to move at all.

I know I had completely separated, but since the vibrations were not really strong when I left, I wonder if that's the reason I felt stuck, where I couldn't move. I was facing towards the ceiling for most of the time, right above the physical. I kept trying to flip over so I could see myself, but I was unable to move. I tried to make the effort more mental, than trying to move around like I would in the physical (as David had told me) but this still did not work. I did get a good look at my hands though! (for the first time) They turned to liquid within a couple of seconds; disappearing.  I had a strange thought that if I died, this would be how I would exist. It was a very strange feeling. I felt the need to return to my body at that point, probably from this fear. I made the effort to move my left foot, and within a few seconds I was back.

I had a very pleasant whooshing sensation in my head. My right arm felt like it was on the verge of falling asleep, since I was kind of laying on that side. I wonder if that's why I felt the need to return.
It was encouraging because my vision was very clear. After I had shot at the wall, I kept telling myself "vision" over and over. Things became very clear after that. During the whole time,  my thought process was very clear and rational, and I was able to control what was going through my mind. The only stray thought was about this being how death would feel. I was able to control the fear, by just contemplating the thought as something interesting.
The time when I had returned, was 3:04 a.m. I think this was the longest that I've been out. I would say probably 3 minutes. I had the peace of mind to lay there and try again, but I was too excited from thinking about the experience, and trying to recall every detail.

Something new I did right before I went to sleep last night, was I went to sleep last night about 130 am.  Prior to falling asleep, I did some energy work with my chakras, focusing on my root chakra and working my way up. I swear I felt so relaxed, almost energized afterwards It was very neat!! It also helped me to mentally relax, because there is really no way to open the chakras unless you mentally focus and let go of your stress.

Any comments about the chakra energy work, or if you've had a similar experience with this method for an OBE, please share!

I've never been actually able to have a complete OBE, but I've been able to induce lucid dreams and false awakenings (which sometimes feels like an OBE, but I don't see my body). I also occasionally have sleep paralysis and sometimes even seem to see with my eyes closed. I've figured out that shutting your eyes (including your mind's eye) is a good way to break from sleep paralysis, avoid nightmares, and also for starting new dreams.

This sounds like a really good technique, which in fact i have been trying myself occasionly thinking it wont work (which is why it hasnt for me yet probably).

When i was a child it used to happen during the night, and i panicked and cryed my eyes out. My parents used to laugh while comforting me, as they didnt know why i was distressed. I used to pop back and forth to objects around the room.

I also remember the reality fluctuations caused by a mirror effect from the window. A never ending room with window then room then window effect.

I will try your technique and see what happens tonight. Thanks. ill let you know Lyndsy.

Hi bondgirl,
Your technique worked for me last night! This was (only) my second OBE, so I'm not exactly a master. I skipped all preliminary preparations, and had no vibrations, flashings, or other indicators that I was getting ready. It was fast.  This was @ 5:30 AM; I usually get up at 6:00 AM.  As I did in my first OBE, I started with my focus about 2" off of a surface - this is the same as my first experience.

The downside was my wife woke me up almost immediately by rolling over  :-( , so I only experienced the OBE for about six seconds, just long enough to verify what was going on.

Harliquin,
This only took about three attempts over a ten second period, i.e., I lost some focus the first two times, and simply re-focused outside. It worked well, so keep at it. I'd suggest don't try hard, just gently re-focus every time any distracting thought pops up. BTW During both of my experiences I was mentally reaffirming my desire to go OB. I believe if there is any fear involved it might be difficult to achieve this state. Good luck!

Vitruvian,

I'm glad it worked for you! The technique is so much easier than all the other ways, and SO quick. I was out in less than 30 seconds. I don't know why I haven't seen more information on this technique before.

What did you mean about "starting your vision 2 inches off of the surface"?

This exit-technique sounds great... I like the idea of a fast exit - I'm tired of pulling rope for a long time without any result. Thanks for sharing. (and great description btw...)

bondgirl,
For whatever reason, during my two OBE's I started with my focus very close to a surface (as if my nose was right above a table surface), wooden in both cases. In the first one, I simply 'lifted up', expanding my field-of-view until I could see all around. Unfortunately in this second OBE I was interrrupted just as I was doing that.

PS - Glad to see your post has generated some interest!
PPS - I have heard of other people having OBE's and sort of getting stuck up against a wall, facing it, and being unable to move; luckily I wasn't stuck in position
