So yesterday I was taking a nap, and had kind of woken up to that feeling of sleep paralysis. I couldn't move or open my eyes, but I could hear loud as day, two people talking. One was a female voice, the other a male. Their voices sounded professional, as if I was hearing a radio broadcast. They were talking about sports. I was able to remember a few things that were said and once I was able to force myself out of the sleep paralysis state, I wrote it down. They were talking about the Celtics basketball team, and then about how a player named "Durant" was having such a stellar and amazing season. Now let me be very clear here- I don't follow sports, and I couldn't even probably name any NBA player. (I wasn't even sure if the Celtics were baseball or basketball until one of them mentioned basketball) So I looked up the name Durant when I got online, and he's ranked like #2 this year in the NBA!! He's also linked to the Celtics team because he was originally going to play for them, but decided not to.

I guess the cool thing is, it wasn't just voices and chatter I was hearing. I was actually able to verify this information. Now I'm just baffled- how in the world am I picking up radio signals in my head????? Anybody have anything similar happen to them?  I was totally alone when this happened, and no t.v. or radio was even on in my house.

Yes, it does happen.  It is kind of cool, isn't it?

#2
Impossible. It was probably info you have heard before on the radio a day or so before and not taken notice of then your subconscious somehow replayed it back to you which you didn't remember hearing the first time.

It has happened to me too. Last time I heard the city the station was in, which was Anderson, Ohio- a place I had not heard of. Actually, it seems there are two Anderson, Ohio listings in MapQuest.  Also, I heard a song that they said was from the Japanese Saxophone, which is a cd that does exist.

I don't think it's impossible. Thoughts have their own frequencies themselves that you send out into the universe everytime you think. So maybe somewhere they coincided with radio frequencies. I'm not even sure how you would explain that but its kind of sweet=) Maybe you should intentionally try to do this again. Or pick up thought frequencies of other people instead of teh radio. Good luck to you!

Not only it's not impossible, it's documented to have happened.  RF is modulated, and any semiconductor can demodulate  (decode) a signal making it go back to the audible range.  That's what radio receivers do.  We have many areas in the head (especially the teeth) that have a combination of elements (especially if you have fillings, the fillings are conductive, the teeth are probably semiconductive themselves) that can do the job, if 'tuned' properly.  So yes, it's really not 'impossible' for some part of the head (probably the molars, they are very close to the ears) to have just the right amount of moisture and semiconductive materials to decode and resonate enough for your delicate healing apparatus to pick it up and have you hear it 'in your head'.
It's not metaphysical, it's just you being receptive.
You will notice that this usually happens at night- that's because there is less noise, both audible and electrical to keep you from noticing this.  And if you're half asleep, the impressions will be augmented.

This is very true and I have experienced the same thing so it's not impossible. Fillings can act as rectifiers, or detectors and extract the audio from a radio frequency (RF). This is the principal behind the old crystal detector radios that the soldiers would listen to while in the trenches during WW1.

It was more than likely a strong, nearby AM broadcast station that you were hearing.

Thanks everyone for your responses! Glad to know I'm not loosing my mind! I did get a filling in my tooth recently, so maybe that's it.

I find it amusing that SkepticBoy continuously asks for some sort of validation ... but the second anyone mentions anything related to validations, its instantly impossible.

Why sir, is it impossible?  ... Because it defies the laws of physics as we currently know them? Or something else? Well if that is the case, then you have no further need to look on this website for validations, because it is impossible.

If you instantly have the mindset that something is false before you have any proof for its falsehood or truthfulness, you are not a skeptic, but a person who is close minded. Skepticism is lack of belief until evidence is given ... belief in falsehood of a statement without evidence is still a belief, so you cannot truly be a skeptic.

I am a skeptic with astral projection and other paranormal events, but I suspend my judgments until I see further evidence for one side or the other. It is possible that this radio thing is simply as you described it: all in the mind. But I cannot rule out the possibility that there is some sort of paranormal event occurring either. You cannot say either way without hard evidence. Unfortunately in this situation, the hard evidence is lacking since it was a subjective experience.

I suggest you either change your username, or change your way of thinking. The two don't match up at all.

Hi All.  I really like the "theory" about picking up frequencies in the teeth... I am not certain about the physics of it, but it seems to be a good possibility.  I do note however that if it was really well documented, I expect it would be well known.  The only time I ever heard of the idea was in Roger Waters album Radio Chaos. :-)  Anyway, personally I think it is best to lean towards the skeptical.  After all, we all have no clue ... or maybe 0.00000000001 clue.  Whatever that means.  Personally, i have heard things like that many times.  It has ranged from family members talking to doors shutting, to the TV, etc.  I think this theory is rather interesting.  I do recall reading once about a design for some new walkman type thing that resonated the teeth... apparently, sound travels very well from the teeth to the ear drums.  Also, I read that dolphins actually use their teeth as receptors in their radar type vision.  So, it makes good sense.  Anyway, I am a kind of frequent OBEr and have been looking for other frequent OBERs... that maintain skepticism and/or that have a good depth of knowledge.  After many years of this, I am now 45, I am finding that I am hitting some walls ... like understanding the landscape out there in astral land ... with all the entities, etc., that we "perceive" -- I say perceive since the fact that we perceive it does not make it so.  As it has been said "I think, therefore I am."  Not, "I think, therefore what I think is."  Well, to be honest, I am not even so fond of the real quote either. :-)
Regards,
Spark

Lucille Ball told about this phenomena in a interview once.

From Wikipedia...

QuoteLucy also reveals in this interview that the strangest thing to ever happen to her was after she had some dental work completed and after placing lead fillings in her teeth, she started hearing radio stations in her head. She explained coming home one night from the studio and as she passed one area, she heard what she thought was morse code or a "tapping." She stated that "As I backed up it got stronger. The next morning, I reported it to the authorities and upon investigation, they found a Japanese radio transmitter that had been buried and was actively transmitting codes back to the Japanese."[32]

It's so well known (at least in some circles) that it was part of one of the classes I took when I was in college, when they were teaching about diodes (semiconductors).
However, it may not be part of 'folk culture', precisely because it automatically gets classified as 'crazy stuff' and no one wants to admit it's happened to them.  But when you get into more specialized circles (like electronics, where it was the first time I'd heard of the phenomenon spoken aloud), it's a well-known phenomenon.

Hmmm... then it makes sense the reason it's not THAT common is that their is no way of tuning the frequency. It would probably be related to the amount of metal vs the location vs the receptivity of the person. Getting them all lined up to work with a particular frequency without interference is possible, but like winning the lottery.

Hmm ... I still have a strong doubt here that it scientifically works to pick up audible sounds in the teeth.  Having a professor mention it as so in a class is rather different than having scientific study that proves it to be so.  It seems like a rather easy thing to study and prove too.  ALthough, perhaps there has been such a study or perhaps no real desire to study it.  Anyway, I am a patent attorney, and graduated from engineering school and work in the technical field too.  Sounds fishy to me.  I think it has probably about as much proof as in this OBE world.

Stookie

Something kind of strange, I was just in another completely unrelated forum and someone asked "have you heard about those old toasters that after a certain amount of use would begin picking up local AM stations?". To which another person responded, "no, but my grandmother used to pick up the radio in her tea kettle after she filled it with water and put it on the stove".

Of course it's hearsay. I just thought it was weird to be the same subject, same day, completely different groups of people.

I'm not sure what  you mean by scientifically.  Do you mean 'can it be reproduced experimentally'?
First, like I said, it is a documented thing.  Proven, probably not.
Here's some documentation.

Of course, just because it has happened to many of us doesn't prove scientifically that it has actually happened.  But it does prove that many people have had the experience.
However, there is one more thing:
if this interests you, a russian scientist named Andrija (Henry Puharich) patented an invention that could do just that.

I don't know if it worked, but...well, he patented an invention.  And he patented lots of other inventions that were legitimate, even if he was openminded.

It's interesting that this thread has stirred up so much interest. Probably because it's not one of those "So did I OBE last night?" threads.  :-D

Astral Projection

I've heard voices many time while trying to project and sometimes I've heard music playing loud and clear (once it was too loud so I got distracted) :)
I never thought what this could be but maybe these are FM/AM frequencies too? :)

I wouldn't think so because sometimes those talk to you and/or about you- so I'd either classify them as either M-Band noise (as described by Monroe), aspects of yourself objectified, or genu-ine disembodied entities.
Just a thought, no preference.

There's another fairly mundane possibility we haven't considered hear yet. I've always found my sense of hearing is greatly amplified in a sleep paralysis state (for example, I can hear my neighbour over the road showering, etc.). It might be that someone nearby was listening to the radio or watching TV and you heard it.

Yep, I have heard what sounds suspiciously like phone conversations.  But I've heard both sides of it, so my hearing must really get good.

The station I heard claimed to be in Ohio, and I am in No. California.   That is pretty sensitive hearing. . .   :)
