i agree with malcolm i bet you guys if dbz didnt excist no one will be tring to make ki balls and stuff like that. dbz is just base on fantasy

Tom

A ki ball is a good thing for people who are just beginning to feel energy for the first time. It can be created easily and moved around. Its properties can be changed, such as texture, weight, temperature, density. They are even good for a few things, like directing energy into a specific chakra. Beyond these things, I don't see the value in ki balls. They are a training exercise. To say otherwise seems to me like saying that the purpose of lifting weights is to move some pieces of iron around instead of building up muscles.

How long has DBZ been around? Recently I saw a comic book at the grocery store, and it was the first reference to DBZ out of these forums that I had crossed paths with. Picking it up to look through the pages would have been more effort than it seemed to merit.

Parmenion

Ive never seen it but im going to download a few episodes from Kaazalite to check em out. I love cartoons especially Simpsons, Southpark and the X-men.Call me a big kid if you want but ill just call you smelly-pants [;)]

Nerezza

I used to watch it a few years ago, then I realized it was too crazy for me. Im a patient person but when DBZ needs to set up a fight using 5 half hour episodes, I go a little insane. It is a good cartoon though, as I said, too crazy for me.

Here's a funny flash movie about Dragon Ball Z.

Nerezza

Wow, this is my first time really looking in this part of the forum. There are alot more DBZ fans here than on actual DBZ sites.[:O]

panabelle

Sure, energetic development isn't like DBZ and the show is extremely exaggerated, but hey, who cares? It's fun to watch as long as you don't take it too seriously.

And who is to say that some of the techniques on there aren't possible? They might just require ENORMOUS amounts of skill.

Yeah I have that cool Videl Avatar! With wings! [|)]

Parmenion

That flash is Gas Nerezza nice one. Talk about taking the p***!

Parmenion

panabelle

Yeah that is hilarious. I had downloaded the MP3 off Kazaa but I didn't know there was a video too!

If you have Kazaa the file is called Invader Zim vs. DragonBallZ or something like that.

James S

Thankyou Malcolm for speaking up about this issue.

I've been rapidly loosing interest in this forum because of all the ki ball / DBZ discussions, as if this is the ultimate goal of energy development. I agree with Tom's assessment that ki balls, flames etc are a nice indicator of energy development, but within the general context of this website, would it not be fair to say that such energy development is better used for raising ones ability to project, change ones point of perception or gain more control over the physical world around us?

The desire to manipulate ki/chi energy to be used as a possible form of weapon seems to me completely counterproductive in the course of spiritual development.

James.

I think they should delete this message board. It could make beginners think that ki is nothing but a DBZ thing. Could cause some people to stop believing and studying ki.

(Stan) hey cartman your fat a** is so big that when you walk down the street people go " God d*** thats one big fat a**.
(Cartman) I'll kcik you in the nut's!

I completely disagree.  I agree with Panabelle.  I bet that everything they do can be achieved, we are just the modern pioneers on the subject, (besides ancient martial artists).  I mean when they made the first plane it flew what?  100 feet or something like that.  Not they can go at supersonic speed and in outer space and more coming soon in a matter of a few years, I think that we have infinite potential and the only thin hindering that is the people saying "I Can't"

Tom

It is a "young" versus "old" thing. Us "old" people are telling "young" people not to expect dramatic results from minimal effort over a period of a few days. Instead, we are trying to push "old" ideas like struggling over several years and even over several decades. This has been going on since before history was written down. What I want to know is what will happen in a few years, a decade, or longer when DBZ types are in the role of being us "old" people and they are confronted with "young" people telling them that they are taking too long.

silva

I think in a way its a young vs old... but in a way its more.  I honestly believe people might get interested in developing energy because of that cartoon.  But people who dont claim to have amazing powers like auraseer claims to but who actually are realistic and believe in things little by little will realize basing what's possible on a cartoon doesn't make much sense.

Many things people believe they wanted to achieve in the past has been things their Master (mentor) achieved.  Or stretching their limits..one very important thing here is experience.  People who have experienced and only believe they are creating something when they know for sure they're not deceiving themselves often times see the limits.  Not limits in possibilities but realistic limits that come up before you have to really push yourself hard to overcome them.

But to watch a cartoon and say "thats possible" yes it is.  But where are the respected (not look at all MY powers) type of humanbeings who say they've done such things.  Not even some of the oldest and most experienced men and women who have been working for hours a day (and believe it or not some of these people have tons of natural talent) say "i can levitate myself in front of any of you."  Cartoons can help introduce you to an idea...but to base your technique or expectations on it just doesn't make sense and it comes off as childish.

I agree that when i come to the energy forum more than most others I start taking everything with a grain of salt.  Panabelle its important you dont believe anything is impossible.. maybe you'll progress further with that way of thinking.  But work and experience it yourself.. i think some of these cartoon fans make it seem like the ultimate goal is to become one of these cartoon characters using energy to fight bad guys.  It downplays the very real..and very satisfying feeling you get with "little things" like being sensitive to your energy.  Healing a pain in your body..

I think because im relatively new to this forum its the only reason im bothering to say this.  I get the feeling most just dont comment anymore on the dbz stuff.  Hey if it gets people believing in energy I think its a good thing.  But just dont judge what is possible by that show.. work on it and judge whats possible for YOU on what you achieve.

*gets off my soap box* and i sincerely hope i didnt offend anyone.  Im obviously very opinionated on some things. [:)]

Fat_Turkey

I totally agree. Spiritual development doesn't mean you will get superpowers and be able to use it as a weapon. It is about mental and spiritual balance, and only through achieving this can people do wonderous things.

And then, there is the age-old saying I am constantly reminded of. "Those who have the power, don't. Those who have the power, need not say anything at all." So if somebody could ACTUALLY levitate, they wouldn't run around going hey I can levitate I'm so great and you suck hahahaha. Where's the proof? Just another teenager basing their entire energy work on DBZ. I'm a teen myself, but I woke up from the nightmare of DBZ mainly cause I hate the show. It was made 20 years ago for crying out loud. If you want GOOD anime go watch a GOOD, RECENT anime such as Cowboy Bebop.

And about believing that anything is possible. That is a good philosophy...to a certain extent. Scepticism isn't evil, it can be used to apply logic and make things make sense. I have found that since I employed scepticism my energy work has gotten better. If Robert Bruce ran around saying he had super powers and aspired to be like Goku I don't think he could have ever accomplished such works such as the Treatise on OOBE, Astral Dynamics, PPSD, etc.

The thing with energy being used in combat is so far from reach it's mind boggling. Achieving a good relaxed state of mind combined with martial movements to make people explode and crap like that is just so near impossible that I'm amazed some people still think it'll take a few weeks. A much easier approach is to become calm and relaxed to manipulate energy in and around you. Psionics is one of the best and most logical energy practices that is easily accessible today. If you want to learn how to use Ki, learn Aikido or Karate or the like.

If anybody here has seen Akira, then you know what I mean by Psionics. But that movie is also overexaggerated. Psionics is more of a practical energy work with better results than most pathetic ki websites, which just happen to be on TRIPOD!!! Why don't all you whacky McDojo "Ki masters" buzz off and leave us true practitioners alone.

Well my mind just went blank. I got lots of ranting to do but I can't organise my thoughts. Too tired....

G'night

No amount of rigorous training, sitting and doing nothing, and clearing one's mind can help a man who hasn't overcome his doubts.

you wanna watch some GOOD anime that only barely exagerrate the uses of ki, try rurouni kenshin (episode 7 has a nice battle with a glimpse into what a "battle aura" should seem kinda like. as well episodes 44 and 45 (i think) have a great battle).

also flame of recca (the flame thing that recca has is NOT ki. it is some contrivance for the story to occur) has some good action stuff in it. not much use of ki though, just showcasing strong warriors and generic "battle" abilities. (oh God, i'm comming up with new catch phrases Insert [:P]).

for a link to the manga of Flame of Recca click here: http://www.snoopycool.com/manga/recca/index.htm and start clicking on the green links to the zip files. zip files are about 3+ megabytes each and only have about 15 to 20 images each of the manga.

and fat_turkey, psionics is not neccessarily the "most logical" energy to develop. it all depends on how the person was brought up, or how they brought themself up.

if someone is a spiritual person, then they should find spiritual energies easiest to develop and may not even have a clue as to how to develop psionics.

someone who is a uses their mind to think about everything should have an easier time developing psionics, but might not have a clue about empathy.

etc. as well, some may be more apt towards multiple energies. i'm currently developing psionics fairly well, and learning a lot that i had only theorized about before, even though i also use spiritual energies. also, i have had empathy since i was a kid; it didn't really show itself very strongly because i was shy and didn't like interacting with others, but when i did i could get a feel for what they were feeling fairly easily. i think that developing every aspect of a human being is just as important as developing any one. so that's what I'm doing.

why you are developing yourself is an important question, but don't forget that some (most actually) can develop themselves spiritually without ever needing a reason to.

Ok. I just want one good explanation how you know that ANYTHING is impossible. The supersonic airplanes were a great metaphor, Shawn. Maybe it will take hundreds of generations for anyone to do anything really spectacular. Who cares? Might as well start trying now.

And by the way Silva, thinking of what I might be able to do in the future just makes me even more excited about any small progress I make.

For all those DBZers out there here is something yall should know

1. The founder or inventor of Ki and Ki arts- Koichi Tohei
2. The definition of the word Ki-
A. "Ki is the basic unit of the universe. It is the infinite gathering of infinitely small particles. Everything is ultimately composed of Ki. If you pursue this concept to the depth of human consciousness, you will understand the universal mind which governs all creation, loving and protecting all life......Everything originates from the Ki of the universe"- Koichi Tohei
B. The Chinese definition of Ki (pronounced Chi, in Chinese) is perhaps best represented by Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming. As the founder of the YOAA, Inc., an international organization dedicated to the preservation and practice of Chi-based arts, he is uniquely qualified to offer this explanation: "Qi (Chi) is the foundation of all Chinese medical theory......It corresponds to the Greek pnuema and the Sanskrit prana, it is considered to be the vital force and energy flow in all living things......Qi can be best explained as a type of energy very much like electricity, which flows through the human or animal body. When this circulation becomes stagnant or stops, the person or animal will become ill or die. Although there is no precise Western definition of Qi, it is often referred to as bioelectricity. In fact, it was recognized in the last decade that Qi is actually the bioelectricity circulating in all living things

Well now that you all know that I thought you all should know this.

"As you can see, the Chinese and Japanese perspectives really don't differ all that much; in fact, they have more in common than discord. Both Ki masters maintain that this biological energy is the foundation of life, and that without it, death certainly ensues. Neither asserts Supernatural phenomena as a by-product of Ki's influence upon the Universe, nor do they claim that someone will beget extraordinary superpowers as a result of Ki training--despite what Japanese cartoons (Manga) might lead one to believe. "

Now to sum this all up.....Ki is the building block of the universe or the energy flow in all living things or to put in term for westerners bioelectricity. It cannot give you special powers. "Ki techniques like the ones on http://theteachingsofki.tripod.com will get u nowhere. They are based on a TV show meant to entertain children and no true Ki art.
This being said I must say something to the new people on here. Don't buy into this crap. Trying to be like guys on tv show is for 4 years olds and people with no wisdom. If u want energy increases do yoga, meditate, join a martial artor get your lazy butt up and go to the gym. That is all. Ohhh and I feel very sorry for those out there that actually believe they can be like dbz characters.
Thank You

for those of u who wanna know where i got my information her ya go

This is obviously a synthetic energy development system created by teenagers trying to emulate Goku.

Actually, it's Trunks. He's so much cooler.  :)

DBZ wasn't the thing that got me started on this.  I needed something to do in my spare time.  I didn't want to play video games ALL the time, so i had to fill in something.  Then this guy online told me all about this, and i was intrigued.  I pursued it for guidance in my life, because i wasn't ever doing anything...

Yay. I'm not funny anymore.  I'll turn the comedy back on later. I want to leave that guy out for a while so I can be more serious about the task at hand.

Wow..... Thats one of the things that I have to say...... Wow...

Reading this thread was increadibly amuseing.... thats being another thing needed to be said...

I was reminded of how unknowing some people are, if that follow DBZ blindly like that.....[ I've had these conversations with myself before too, about how stupid people can be, about anything...]

    - I truely enjoy watching Dragon ball, Dragon Ball Z, and the soon comming of Dragon Ball GT when it decides to come out on Cartoon Network...

    - I used to just want to be able to shoot an Energy Blast out of my hand/eyes/mouth/butt/where ever.. Then I went into 7th grade....

    - I now know of so many things that deal with energy, and I've read and interpreted so many different mindsets of people, and perceptions of people, and thier oppinions of energy/spirituality/religion. [thus leading to the next one]

    - I have a couple friends who have a lot of experience with the metaphysical, and share different oppinions on things, helping me to greater understand truths and hoaxes.

    - DBZ does NOT make people blind to the truth of what energy in general, is, So long as that person also seeks other knowledges about how that could be acheived. After a certain point they will, soon lose that single want to do something that the cartoon shows, and gain multiple wants to become stronger, wiser, and more experienced in the arts that they have then learned of..

    - *brain fart*

...... ahk...... crap...... *lost train of thought, but thinks he got the point across, to atleast some, by now*..

I think that if we can show those people who strive to be like any cartoon, movie, or book character; that there is more to what they want to do..... if we can do that, and they decide to learn, than they will eventually realise the greater truth of what spirituallity, or any energy manipulation, holds.

Now....... if i could only get rid if this pain in my arm and chest that hurts every once in a while, but theres no way to be able to touch it, or push the muscle against it to itch it...... Need...sleep.... 2:35 in the morning.... gah!!....
If someone has the knowledge, and wants to do something, how far do you think they can go, if they lack the experience, and are unable to sustain the amount of effort needed to succeed?  ~ Self 2/25/2003

Trunks cooler than Goku?! ARE YOU BRAINDEAD?!?!?!?![:P][:P][:P]

I noticed that my response was conveniently ignored. What happened to all those people who were vehemently arguing about what's possible? Cat got your tongue?

Sorry to provoke, but after all the stuff you guys said I think you should at least back it up.

And after reading the original post again, I have to say, Malcolm, that thinking about what might be possible eventually only makes me more excited with any small progress I make, not depressed.

Tom

We all agree that anything and everything is possible. There is even a finite non-zero probability that it will. For many things, however, they are so far out of reach that it is more profitable to discuss things which are more likely.

panabelle

Like what? Ki balls? <sneezes> Excuse me, I'm allergic to sarcasm...

Why not aim high? Probably get closer that way.

I stopped answering this because i've said a few times as has everyone else just because anything is possible doesn't mean a person's claims are true.  But if you chose to believe anything anyone says because anything is possible thats fine.  Most of us chose not to believe every kid who says they can levitate after practicing for 2 hours.  And has incredible superpowers.. You're young though maybe when you get older you'll understand.

Just dont be discouraged if you try and try and still can't ever levitate.

Most are just tired of fantastic claims based more on a cartoon than reality.

But by your logic because everything is possible we shouldnt use our brain to discern fact from fiction.  Please stop saying "prove anything is impossible" because for the 100th time that isn't the issue.
