G'day folks,

I'm a dude from Canada who's been on both sides of the metaphysical fence; everything from being a complete scientific materialist to basically believing that absolutely anything was possible.

Now... I'm determined to find out what's really possible firsthand.

(Huh... I definitely recommend you imagine all this being said in that deep, dramatic, I've-smoked-20-packs-of-cigarettes-per-day-for-20-years movie trailer voice.)

So on Monday I'm beginning a year long experiment where I'll start out with 10 minutes of meditation per day, and add 10 more each week. Over 12 months, that'll add up to just about 9 hours of meditation per day. Full details are at my blog, link in signature.

Look forward to sharing my experiences and learning lots!

Welcome to the Astral Pulse Skysight!

I don't want to sound like I'm putting you off, but the amount of time meditating doesn't matter. What you need are quality experiences, which you can't really put a time limit on. 9 hours a day is bound to throw you out of balance.

One thing I've found about meditation is the need to change techniques and times and take breaks when needed. Meditation tends to throw things at you that you never expected or can plan for.

I love your enthusiasm. You bound to get places with that kind of inspiration.

Thanks folks!

What other factors do you feel determine the quality of a meditation experience? Could you elaborate on what you mean by out of balance?

No worries about being put off, always open to feedback. 8-)

The Present Moment

If you can meditate 9 hours a day you might as well join a monastery.

I was about to say... depends of your definition of meditation. One can "meditate" all day, as in, maintain a mindfulness state of mind.

Yet, many Buddhist monks don't even spend 9 hours a day in deep meditation, as far as I know.

You certainly set a high bar for yourself! Best of luck!

Wow, thats an impressive goal!

My advice would be to stick with your plan, because you will reach a point where you feel the time meditating is enough for you, and any more is too much, and i'm betting that will be way before you reach the 9 hour mark :) . I would be interested in seeing at which point you reach that conclusion.

Can I ask what kind of meditation you are going to be using? Will it be just relaxation? Or will you be working with your chakra's? Visualisation and/or pathworking perhaps?

I will be happy to advise you of some techniques, depending on what exactly you want to achieve :)
