Yikes, I had no idea of that.  Glad to see people out ther caring.  I try to avoid big buisnesses anyways. [:D]

I have never shopped at a walmart, at least not that I can remember...

...but will definitely not in the future.

When I get out of college, I'm going to find a nice quiet town where corporations have not invaded, and I will never spend my money on any chain bigger than two stores. I will also start lots of protests to make sure corporations never touch such honest towns.

Kodemaster

Wow, that's messed up! Furthermore, I heard that they have programs where they sponsor field trips for underpriveledged elementary schools to take their kids there...only they spend the whole time trying to sell animals, not educating about them!

Many pet stores are cruel unfortunately.  I've heard from a couple peaple that if you want a cat or dog, go to a breader so you don't promote the pet stores... but then what about the poor animals there?  Don't ya think they need a better home more than some rich breader?  My girlfriend and I always get in this arguement.  She's one that says never go to a pet store.  It's pretty much a lose/lose situation.  Poor aminals (yes, aminals; that wasn't a spelling error)

How do I know that the people complaining aren't just hyperbolizing conditions they've seen?

I mean, if you see animals just sleeping in a large cage at night to keep them safe, sure, you could say "OMG! Animal abuse! They locked the poor animal in a cage with no room to move, no food, no water, and it was living in it's own feces!"

I don't like any type of activist.
I need a signature that isn't stupid. :/

goingslow

" i dont like any kind of activist"

thats about the dumbest thing i think i've read anyone put on these boards.

"oh they see animals in cages and say how cruel" I think the person who put the link up said they put animals in freezers and dont take proper care of them.

I think its funny instead of saying you think the pet shops aren't doing anything wrong you right away state you dont like activists.  Do you even know how broad that is? you dont like people who fight for human rights?  Or pet activists.. or anyone with enough guts to speak out against anything.  You're right its much more intelligent to make stupid "who knows.. i think the fact they're in cages isn't cruel" as if anyone said being in cages is cruel.  And generally apathetic...

Please try to think before posting.. Its upsetting to see something that dumb put on a forum where most actually think before stating an opinion.

goingslow

Oh and anticipating any negative comments towards me being that harsh towards that person I would suggest no one comment.

For one the very definition of activism is defending or speaking out for a group or a person.. for whatever reason.

If you're genuinely against activism that better include when it concerns you.  Im sure im not the only person who has heard "when they came for the jews i did nothing because im not a jew.. when they came for me no one did anything because no one was left."

If this person is a woman activism would mean "take back the night" programs where people are actively fighting against rape of women. Either way if you're against activism of any type that includes when its you.

I just was offended by seeing such an outright stupid statement.. as to say you're against any activism. If someone choses to boycott or speak up against a nursing home because its abusing the residents and someone said "so maybe they saw the fact the old people were in bed and yelled abuse".  As if every cause is made up..by seeing harmless things and reading into them i'd tell them to shut up.

I just hope risu whatever is never a part of a persecuted group.. because unless if suddenly he/she's gonna like activism they have no right to have anyone ever stick up for them on their behalf.

I dont see why people dont think what things mean instead of just making statements trying to look cool.

My cat is from the local animal shelter. He was there from February to June of the year when I bought him. The animal shelters hold on to the animals they pick up off the streets for a while. If the animals are not purchased after a certain amount of time then at many shelters they will not have a long, happy life.

Thanks for the link. I signed the petition and I hope others do as well.

Rage and ignorance tend to cause negligent posting. I would know. That's why I go back and re-read what I type before I post it (unless I am just  REALLY angry then I don't care at the time and I end up doing something stupid, which is why it's good to learn control of emotion).

I think that if people would open their minds to the fact that we do have spiritual bodies, as do animals, then they would see that animals have souls and, HOPEFULLY, treat them better. Of course, people enslaved other people hundreds of years ago and didn't care whether they had souls or not. People must learn what is right and what is wrong, and actually CARE about it. Not caring tends to lead to very bad karma. I believe the right thing for humanity to do is not have animal shelters at all, unless they are taking care of wounded animals which would be released when healed. Cats, dogs, and other creatures are wild animals of the world just like any other creature. I'm not saying it's not okay to own a pet, I'm just saying that they're meant to be in the ecosystem for one reason or another. Controlling their populations and keeping them away from what they're supposed to be doing is not helping the ecosystem, and is only making them suffer. It's a shame that pet shops and animal shelters treat animals so poorly, but I cannot say that I have a better idea. I do, but it's fairly unrealistic. My idea is simply to treat the animals right. It's fairly simple, easy to learn, and not THAT much more money. Shelters exist at least. It would be better than having none at all. Anyone who would rather let an animal die rather than deal with the inconvenience of spending a little extra money to do what they're SUPPOSED to be doing (save the animal) is generally evil and materialistic and probably should be kicked in the head and be labelled an idiot, and be required to hold a sign that says so until they get their act together.

Child of the Forest

Thank You LJ57 for siging the petition. Thanks Tom, EnderWiggen, and goingslow for caring. It is so nice to see that others care too. "In a world where precious things are disappearing overnight..." (thats from FernGully) there are so few people who care or have any form of a concience at all.

And Risu, a freezer IS NOT a warm safe place to keep animals at night, there is no way you can explain away the acts of cruelty at PETCO. if you're so sure about your theroy, why not go to the website and test it out. You can go there by clicking the link in my first message. Once you get there, you will right away see that most of the complaints come in from EMPLOYEES.......

If you think it fair to get locked in a back room to die, or beaten with a paddle left half dead on the floor, or frozen in a freezer for a "humane" death, and think that those things are just "hyperbolized tales of something that was ok, then perhaps it would be wise for you to step back and put yourself in the place of those animals.

Second_star_to_the_right

That is so demented. I really hope those innocent little souls will have justice in the end. This kind of thing really bothers me. Animals really are no different than innocent little children unable to defend themselves.  And both exude unconditional love.

The pet store at my local mall mistreated their animals, too.  I called the SPCA on them.  After that, the store was taking better care of their animals.  But, sadly, a couple months later they were back to mistreating them again.  The shop was closed down not long after that, which really made me happy.  It proved to me that the SPCA does keep tabs on these people... even after they supposedly cleaned up their act.

Child of the Forest

Hello again,

Petco raelly badly mistreats their animals behind the curtains, putting the sick in freezers to die, and it being "store policy" not to spend more on the animal then he or she costed, ex. for veterinary care, to name just a few. It is not fair to the animals to support such a monster. If you want to find out more about this, go to
http://www.petcocruelty.com/

under the resources section, you can click sign petition to sign a petition against petco...

...be sure not to shop there.
