Neutrality - just what is it?

When I dissect our multi-dimensional sentient being, I come up with 3 basic layers of "feeling".

1. the emotional layer
2. the mental layer
3. the spiritual layer

I find these quite difficult to express in words and I think that it is better for everyone to learn to discern between them for themselves.

In here, I want to discuss something that I believe relates to the spiritual layer. This is the highest and most "real" layer and has the deepest meaning to us. When I dissect the spiritual layer, I can clearly see "Light" and "Darkness" as two distinct opposing spiritual essences. But there is something else, something that describes itself as Neutrality, but even that barely describe it, Neutrality is nothing in between, it is not a place of balance or a half-way house. It is something absent from "Light" and "Darkness", yet it is something that is found on the layer of spirituality.
I have found a number of musicians and classical composers that have devoted their lives to expressing Neutrality in their music.

There have been days I found myself surrounded in terribly dark energies originating from beyond myself, surrounding and penetrating me and so spiritually suffocating that I could not use "Light" to escape them. In those moments I have found refuge in Neutrality. Neutrality can feel like a safe-haven from Darkness and from my experience it can act as a stopover to help purifie from "Darkness " in order to be able to move towards the "Light" again.
I believe that Neutrality is NOT the same as the emptiness or void that is sometimes experienced but I could be wrong!
In Neutrality there is no threat yet there is no love but there is a distinct feeling of freedom that gives it a kind of positive feel over all.
I am wondering if Neutrality is really a connection to the Source of Creation, the pure original stem from which all spiritual expression grew but being in itself void of spirituality.
When I think of Neutrality I think of a trainstation, a stopover. It is mostly grey colored there but it is not sad! The sun shines bright and peaks through the giant windows of the station. There are bars with tables there where people can take a break and have a drink(reflect).
When people enter Neutrality they step off a train from a distant town (spiritual expression) and rest for a little while at the station(of Neutrality) before they step again on a train, determined to go back to a distant place of either Light or Darkness.

It is such a strange place yet as deeply meaningful as Light and Darkness and it has railways leading to both.

I've given my best to explain to you what Neutrality feels like for me, now it is your turn - if you feel like, to express what Neutrality means to you.

Neutrality - just what is it?

Arvo Pärt is one such composer in whose work I found a lot of neutrality.

A lot of his work is emotional but some of it is really aimed neutral as these two.

It's easy to see how the notes end up rather inconclusive, neither happy nor sad.

Here's a story it reminded me of:

There are some monks meditating under the guidance of an abbot, and one of the monks jumps up startled and runs to the abbot and says, "it's awful I saw visions of hell and torture and demons..." and the abbot says "let it go" and instructs him to go back meditating.

A while later the same monk jumps up and comes running back and says "it worked, I saw visions of heaven and light and angels..." and the abbot says, "let it go" and instructs him to go back meditating.

It sounds like your "neutrality" is free of judgmental perception, maybe free of ego, which is why there is no leaning towards good or bad, dark or light.

I know of the neutrality you speak of...

It embraces both the light and dark, and dances between them,  because they both exist and therefore they both are experienced.  It makes use of them both for carrying its weight when it must, or neither of them.

Really it isn't just neutral, it's centered.  It's centered in everything, and that's why it doesn't get mad, or get happy, either.  It knows them both, sees both their points of view, entertains them solemnly and simultaneously.  But mad and happy are only two points in an infinity of points,  and the goal is to fill the entire diameter of the circle and the find balance in the very center point of the circle, from which all things are equal and the same, everything is calm and naturally flowing.  In physics an object is said to be in 'equilibrium" when the forces pushing it in one way are balanced by forces pushing it another way.  As long as all the pushes and pulls on the object sum to 0 at the object's center of gravity, then that center experiences no net force and so sits calmly in the center.  Even while everything attached to it is straining to keep it in place.  Though in the esoteric studies it's the other way around: it's the calm center keeping the straining attachments stable, that float off into the darkness we are all perpetually playing with.

This is a great thread. Neutrality/impartiality is deep.
What is the sound of no leaves cloving?
