What are your guys favorite movies?
The secret to success is as simple as this - allow your dreams to come true

Leannain

Interview With The Vampire, Alexander, Troy, 300, Phantom Of The Opera, all of the Star Wars and the Last Samurai.

Stillwater

Interview with the Vampire is pretty good, but the ending is a little cliche.

Bladerunner, Hero, Clockwork Orange, Fullmetal Jacket, Apocalypse now, Artificial Intelligence, Alice in Wonderland, Let the Right One In, Moon, The Star Wars series for sure, What Dreams may come, Hook, Highlander
"The Gardener is but a dream of the Garden."

Stillwater - Let the Right One In is a beautiful movie. The only reason it's not on my list is because it's still fairly new.

Top 10 in random order:

Easy Rider
Chunking Express
Fight Club
King of Kong: Fistful of Quarters
Mean Streets
Carlito's Way
Gozu
Kung Pow: Enter the Fist
The Hidden Fortress (inspiration for star wars)
Boogie Nights

I could make a top 100 cause there are so many others I feel deserve to be on there as well.

Yeah. But those vampires were gorgeous, that more than compensates the cliche ending  :-P

I loved Highlander the series much more than the movie.  Is it true they are going to bring it back?

Haha, I thought that this might be a Kungfu-type movie.... Donkey Kong- hilarious

And I watched "Easy Rider" online- absolutely solid. They don't make movies about reality anymore.

Yeah, Tom Cruise's character was pretty good looking, and an incredible character beside- I like the complexity with which he is treated, since villians tend to be so cut and dried, and his motives and expressions are far from 2-dimensional.

Some others:

Mullholland Drive
Battleship Potyemkin
Grave of the Fireflies
Dark City
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

I prefer TV shows much more than movies, here are a list of my favorites:

Highlander
Start Trek TNG
Stargate
X-Files
Terminator
Star Wars
Drangonball Z

I once wondered why I like Sci Fi shows so much but then I came to realize that I am drawn to characters with certain abilities. For example,

Highlander - Duncan MacLeod: Strength, Immortality, Wisdom

Start Trek TNG - Picard: Intelligence, leadership, morality

Stargate - Jackson: Spirituality, wisdom
           Carter : Intelligence
           Oneall : Humor
           Tealc  : Warrior

X-Files - Mulder: The Truth

Terminator - Artificial Intelligence and technology

Star Wars - Anikin Skywalker: Intelligence, Power, Wisdom, leadership

Drangonball Z- Goku: Power, Wisdom, leadership, morality

One day I plan on exploring this universe and by understanding these characters and incorporating their beliefs and abilities with my own, I hope to become a stronger individual.

Tom Cruise's character is called Lestat de Lioncourt. The movie does show him in a light of villain. Which he's not. At his worst, he's an Anti - hero. At his best, he's the Brat Prince of the Vampires. One of the most powerful Vampires to exist despite being only two - hundred years.

He's a very forceful individuality in it's presence on the "Vampire Chronicles" by Anne Rice. I think you'd love the Vampire Chronicles. It's filled with such emotion that I find myself falling time and time again with the characters. Their plight becomes my scenery. Their immortality my own room of impending expectancy.

Anyway.

Brad Pitt Character's is thought of as one, if not - the most beautiful vampire of all and the most human too. Brad Pitt is not bad - looking either .

Yeah, I loved the Highlander show too. I've seen the films as well.

"Star Wars - Anikin Skywalker: Intelligence, Power, Wisdom, leadership "

Intelligence? "The Force" grants superior abilities and an access to higher planes of existence, both on the physical and on the netherworld of the Force. Jedis are thus, generally more intelligent than the average person. However, the most intelligent being in the Galaxy was no other than the Attorney of the Dark Side.

The most powerful Sith Lord to ever exist: Darth Sidius known to the public as Supreme Chancellor Palpatine.

He alone, took down the Republic which had been standing for more than 25.000 years. He not only engineered the whole of the clone wars; set up an elaborated deceive to too trick the fall out of planets into the swoon of Count Dooku and he brought the most powerful creature in the galaxy's history - Anakin Skywalke - into the mantle of Dark Sith: Alone. Right under the Jedi's nose.

Even The Grand Master of the Order, Master Yoda, with all his wisdom and experience(900 years of life against 80 years of life of palpatine) was blind to the machinations of the Dark Lord.

Darth Sidious brought forth an age of Sith rule. It could've endured forever if Luke Skywalker had not rescued his father from the dark side.

Ani is indeed the 'Chosen One', the Son of The Force but intelligent was he not. Otherwise, he would've let go of his silly attachment to his wife and would have embraced his destiny to destroy the Sith.

...Without having to become a half - man with the other half being machine and have the Universe suffer so much.

I love Star Wars, yeah.

Anakin wasn't wise either. Wisdom means looking at others and understanding the wrong in it. in it is what the others did and bore bad fruit. He saw his Master almost fall victim of the Dark Side when his heart's desire was almost killed. A wise man(such as Yoda and Sidious) would've look at that and get a lesson from that. No, it wasn't on him: the wisdom. He became even more arrogant. He thought he could save anyone. But couldn't save even himself.

Leadership? A leader will sacrifice himself to save what he knows is important. Anakin behaved like a 15 year old boy who's father said no to him going to the party.  Ani, threw a tantrum at the Jedi Council because he wanted to achieve Masterhood so he would be granted access to the Jedi Archives to try to find a way to save his wive.

This is not a leader. This is a fool. A fool who lets himself be guided by such a thing as "love" when he, as a the Son of The Force, should be above such attachments.

A leader is Leonidas. King Richard "the Lion Heart", Alexander The Great and others.

I agree with the power part.

He was in fact the most powerful being of all times - the Son of The Force Himself - he alone, had twice the potential of Grand Master Yoda and Darth Sidious, both the pinnacle of the Light and the  Dark side of the Force. Not even Revan - Jedi or Sith - was as Powerful as Anakin and trust me. Reven is held as one of the most pivotal beings of the Force.

All in all. Anakin Skywalker was damn Beautiful. Physically and in the sense of powerful. Power is sexy . Gifted beyond belief. Destined to greatness.

What was he, after all? A kid with low self - esteem and too much care for the people who surrounded him.

I can't believe I forgot to put some David Lynch on there. He's big into transcendental meditation which has a lot to do with the surreal/subconscious aspects of his movies. Mullholland Drive is a perfect example. Blue Velvet is a favorite of mine as is Lost Highway. That one's just plain eerie.

And Twin Peaks was the best TV show ever.

There are som good animated ones as well...

"Akira" is one I saw recently. It deals with a large number of ideas, including the "will to power" concept that Nietzsche and Schopenhauer thought was behind the entire functioning of the world, along with the centrality of mind in universe, and the ephemoral nature of physical reality, and the usual Cartesian, "You can't trust your own sense of reality".

ZHaDuM

Gladiator, Mars Attacks, Conan the Barbarian, 300, Star Trek V, Aliens.

Stillwater

"Alien" was an interesting one. I read Ridley Scott's commentary on the first one, and he more or less said that he wanted to explore differnt ideas of the concept of rape, and every possible iteration it might appear as. There is the literal rape of the exomorph of the protagonist, along with fertilization of the exomorph's hosts; then there are also other sorts, such as what the nefarious corportation has done to the entire crew of the ship by knowingly putting them in contact with the creature, with the intention of harvesting the crew as later specimens; finally, there is the total subversion of will, as is perpetrated on the cybernetic organism.

I would definitely say it was one of few films that boldly explores what the sci-fi genre was meant to delve into.

Has anyone seen "Gurdjieff - Meetings with Remarkable Men"? I have it and am interested in watching it, but haven't yet.

I just noticed that you can watch the whole thing for free here:

I've got some time today... I'll give it a watch.  :)

I just watched it- always have been curious about Gurdjieff himself, wish it would have been a little less long.

Hi guys, welcome back.

I have always been a fan of director Hiyao Miyazaki's films.

My two favorite are probably "Mononoke Hime" (Princess Mononoke), and "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind". They are each stories about the war between civilization and the natural world and nouminal spirits, told in varying settings and manners.

Was it very informative? I know some stuff about Gurdjieff, but not a whole lot. I've been reading some things which relates his ideas to Rudolf Steiner's, but supposedly in real life they were not the best of friends.

CFTraveler

I didn't think it was informative as to what he learned- it was interesting in the way he ended up how he did, and how his childhood was, but I think (to be frank) this movie (or the part that I saw, which was a little over an hour) was more legend-making drama than anything else.
Still, if you're curious about him I'd recommend it, even if it's to laugh at the bad acting.  Of course it made me want to read about the theories themselves (I've read theories from his students, not himself) and it made me curious.

Stookie,

Thanks for that link!, I watched the whole thing last night, just love! this kind of stuff.  I have heard of him, of course, but other than this I knew nothing of Gurdjeiff.

(very fun)
