I keep getting the same Tarot cards in a reading.

Why is this? Even for questions that the cards don't seem to refer to, I still get the same cards. I don't really understand why though. There are like 3 or 4 cards that I always get in each reading (not together). I do readings infrequently just for fun by just picking out a single card in answer to my questions.

Well (and I could be wrong)- my understanding of how all kinds of divination works, is that the objects (be it stones, crystals, cards, tea leaves, whatever) get 'attuned' to your aura and give you this pattern.  So you may be asking one thing but your aura may be reflecting something that 'is' there but is not in your conscious mind.
So I suggest you look into that meaning of what the cards are telling you and see how this relates to you, because your force-field is telling you something.

What 3 cards are they?

By the way you could always try another set of cards.  See if it happens again.

We always get the joker for some reason.. err jester or whatever.  The fool.  Almost every time.

That's better than getting the death card every time!  :-D

My understanding of the jester is that it is 'the master of the descending path'- The master of life.  It is also the 'reincarnating' card, it signifies karma, in the sense that it doesn't complete an octave because it's not numbered.  So the problem with this card is 'lack of direction'- if you don't have a set life plan you run the risk of 'staying too long' and having to come back.  This card teaches that the way to participate in life is by slight detachment, not to get too involved in step-by step enmeshment in states of life, but to observe and take life in 'holographically' and with some 'observer' type detachment.  To enjoy and play, not to sweat the small stuff.

(My own words on Whitley Strieber's interpretation in his book The Path)

Hey, I always get Death!  And I love it. Its the card of Scorpio, and it signifies transformation.

Yea, the Tower card means you're gonna die.

You should try Rune Stones.  I find them to be more direct.
be awesome.

I don't know much about tarot cards but when we die, don't we 'transform' from matter to energy?

I guess if we're to nitpick a bit...
We aren't matter to begin with.
We are energy inhabiting matter.  :)
