News turned American Idol?!

I saw this on the local news last night and my brain started churning.

A commercial came on tv for the evening news talking about some local issue that would be covered that night.  Right after it one of the anchors came on and said "What do you think about this issue?  Text 'Yes' if you agree and text 'No' if you think this shouldn't happen".

The obvious explanation is that they want to "get people involved", but it seemed kind of funny to me relative to the idea that the news we see these days is a fabricated "movie" of what the global elite wants us to believe.

What went through my mind was, "So, if the yeses win it, is that what's gonna happen?"

Like American Idol, we text and a winner is chosen and that's what the news reports?  Is history being created by text voting now?

I'm sure that's not the case, but it still seems like "the elite" rubbing it in our faces.

"We control everything you believe about the world anyway, so let's make it interactive now!  Mwahahahaha!"

lol

There is nothing wrong with your television. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are now controlling the transmission. We control the horizontal and the vertical. We can deluge you with a thousand channels or expand one single image to crystal clarity and beyond. We can shape your vision to anything our imagination can conceive. For the next hour we will control all that you see and hear. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the deepest inner mind to... the outer limits.

I don't think it's as much to get people involved as it is to make them feel as though their opinion actually matters. But when it's only "yes" or "no", it's not really an opinion.

On a local news station here they have chat messages scrolling the bottom of the screen. You can join a chat room and get your one-liner on the news. I'd hate to mod that.

Really, a lot of editing done on TV these days is meant to make it look like the internet, as if it's the same type of thing. I think cell phones have a lot to do with it. If you're texting all day, the urge to do it regarding TV shows is probably there at some point.

the media only, as everything else, is trying to make a profit. By appealing to the majority they will profit more, thus that is what they try to do, and we all know what the majority is..

It's just still weird to me that they make news an event instead of just news.

I quit watching the "news" some time ago. I actually pretty much quit watching TV. I don't know why I continue to pay for cable? HD no less. Anyone want to buy a 46" LCD? Barely used. I'll admit, I do like to watch an episode of Family Guy here and there, but the rest of it is garbage.
