Hi guys,

This is my first post, so sorry if I ramble slightly.

I've been having OBEs and, I guess what would be defined as, Astral Projections for years.

Good stuff - consciously leaving my body, seeing my sleeping / meditating body, walking around places I know, places I don't know, talking to strange people, doing anything I want etc.

Bad stuff - being trapped in a cycle of trying to wake from meditation but being pulled back in against my will, for what feels like eternity (happens occassionally - it's like sleep paralysis but about 100 times worse).  Seeing people stood in my room with me.  Waking up feeling like something's trying to throw me out of bed.

(not sure what to make of those experiences. I just put up with them and stay calm, because them do seem to happen occasionally)

Odd stuff - had, what I know believe to be a "kundalini awakening" or whatever you want to call it when I first started meditating (I read up about it afterwards).

It felt like my entire body was being electrocuted and there was a strong rising up my spine, kind of like the feeling of a general anaesthetic creeping up. After that everything was strange and nothing felt real.  I felt extremely at-one and didn't sleep for about two days.

I found it quite easy to get myself back into this state when I next meditated, although each time it has a much weaker "coming up" experience, but the actual experience is just the same.  I'm not sure if any of you have ever taken MDMA, but it's like that: the first time the rush is intense, but after that it gets easier and easier.

Anyway, long story short:

I'm kind of bored.  I want to try something else, see something else, experience something else.  All this stuff is great and I'm still meditating, but I want to have some more "first time" experiences and see what my mind's capable of.

Any advice?

Will

You could try to do some experiments.

Does the astral body have any weight?
Can you close your eyes?
If you turn  upside down, can you still feel what up and down?
Do you think there is any gravity to the astral body?
Are you affected by electrical power lines, magnets?
Do you succeed with the playing card test (card on to of shelf, unseen, you hover and look at it)?
If you chew on you astral fingers, what does it feel like?

You can try for physical manifestation abilities like psychokinesis.  That'd be something new coming from an astral projection and meditation background.  Or you could try to visit the Akashic records.  I've heard it's quite fascinating...and yes, I imagine many people here are quite envious.  I know I'm always envious when people make it sound so darn easy! Haha

I tried chewing my fingers last night - good suggestion, haha!

The sensation kind of felt similar to if I had bitten my finger after my hand had gone to sleep (had the blood circulation cut off from it for a while).

The only downside to this discovery is that this is exactly what I thought it would feel like.  I wonder if it would have felt different if I had preconceived it differently...

I was going to try the others but the t-shirt I was wearing was too tight round the neck, which manifested itself in the projection as people strangling me.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like I was boasting, it took me a long time to get to this stage (I initially followed all of Robert Bruce's meditation and energy raising techniques for about an hour a day for a year or so, then something just clicked in me).

I think the two biggest, most important aspects of getting to where I am now are:

a) Mastering a clear mind.  I used to practice mind clearing exercises every day.  Walking, working, sitting in the garden... I'd practice whenever I could.
Now I can keep my mind free of thoughts almost indefinitely and it's THE thing that's got me where I am now.

I do it by taking a mental step back and almost looking at my thoughts and then sweeping them away.  When I start to feel myself trying to form a thought, it's like I can see it in the peripheral vision of my minds eye.  Then I just give it a nudge and it's gone away, before I've had a chance to think about it.

(man, it is so hard to explain these kind of things!)

b) Breathing exercises.

Everything else just builds on these.

I'm in a strange position with all this I guess. I don't believe in angels, reiki, crystals or, if I'm being honest, that all this projecting is literally leaving the body (and living with two Reiki masters, I've given it a fair trial!).

This makes it hard because when I try to learn different things to try out.  Everything always seems to go, needlessly, back to the metaphysical.

It's probably come about because I'm an atheist with a degree in astrophysics.  When I read an interesting book and the authors try to throw physics into the mix I see massive flaws in what they're saying and end up getting irritated!

Don't get me wrong though.  Regardless of what's actually occuring, I have had some of the most profound experiences through all of this.  I'm calmer, more peaceful, and happier because of it.

I was just playing.  I really respect people who've put in the practice and have something to show for it.  About a month ago I started doing Robert's awareness targeting exercises and I'm getting noticeable results so I'm going to keep going with energy development rout  :-)  I hope something eventually clicks in me too.

Really?  You live with TWO reiki masters and you haven't experienced anything interesting?  That's kind of disappointing.  I was hoping to get into reiki some time in the future.

Now that's impressive.  Somebody who actually knows what he's talking about physics wise.  Astrophysics has to do with the physics of really big things right, like special relativity?  Have you studied quantum physics?  That's always interested me because of the subjective vs. objective confusion that's going on down there on the tiny level...but I don't know much beyond the basic concepts because once math gets involved I lose motivation. haha
