Hey guys.

New to the forums, so I'll post a little bit about my experiences and I also have some questions.

I first started experiencing sleep paralysis when I was about 18. I'm now 23.

It only happened a few times a year, but started to become more frequent about a year and a half ago.

I'm more or less just paralysed and semi-conscious. I can open and shut my eyes, but the rest of my body won't move. I've never hallucinated which I see is quite common among people who suffer it.

Anyway, I first read up about astral projection about a year ago. I tried it quite a few times but was never able to really achieve anything. It wasn't until I was searching around on google one day that I came across the connection between the two.

The first time I tried it while experiencing sleep paralysis was intense. I had never felt vibrations until now, and they were bloody intense lol.

Since then, and if I remember to (sometimes I don't because I panic, and as I said before, I'm usually semi-conscious), I'll get thrown into vibrations almost instantly.

This is where I'm stuck. I get scared, as in terrified. I'm not really the type of person who has that type of fear either. I very rarely get scared of anything, including the devastating earthquakes that have been hitting my city(Christchurch, NZ).

This though is way too much for me and I always end up bailing on it, even though I can feel how close I am.

A couple of nights ago I got so close I swear I felt as if I was about to hear a popping sound, like my bodies were about to separate. I also noticed total blackness, though I'm not sure if my eyes were open. All I remember was being too scared to face what ever would happen if I left my body. The instinctual thought running through my head was that I wouldn't come back. I know now why so many people ask about it.

So my question was - What exactly will I experience if I go through with it? How do you know once you've left your body? Can you see yourself instantly? Are you in the air?

I'm also curious about some of the nasty things people can see and hear sometimes. Are these things just in your head or do they actually carry some kind of a threat?

Your fear is probably gonna make things very difficult for you if you really want to have an out of body experience. because you don't hallucinate and hear disturbing sounds, it should be easier for you to overcome that fear leaving simple intent and desire to have an out of body experience. generally, when i have an OBE, i wake up in paralysis and close my eyes bringing on the vibrations and darkness, but as seconds go by, the darkness starts brightening up. then there's a point where i feel myself separate which brings on full blackness as if i'm kind of falling in blackness. this morning, i jerked my legs almost as if i was trying to jump while i felt myself separate and i immediately projected. i've been wondering why it happens, but when i project, immediately i end up standing next to my bed, facing my physical body.

There are two things that will be your greatest enemies on your journey to learning to project:  Fear and Beliefs.

If you have fears, they *WILL* manifest in the non-physical state and you'll either get scared back to your body or you'll have to face them head on.
These are fears that you know you have, and ones that you might not even realize you have.  Beliefs are also tricky in this regards.

Some people say that they don't have any fears or beliefs... part of figuring out how to project is finding those fears and beliefs and working with them, not against them.

Hi Rush
If you Do have the desire to go out of body then that alone could get you past the fear barrier. My advice is to read up on the various OBE methods and try a few. Find what seems most suited and what will work for you. Perhaps one method will be effective and you can deliberately induce a separation and go out of body. If not then the subconscious desire to have an OBE might result in a spontaneous OBE one night. Actually that first OBE is very likely to be purely spontaneous -- one night you might find yourself already projected out of body. If that happens you can get past the fear barrier and be able to explore your astral surroundings.

Good luck  :-)

You asked what it will feel like and while everyone is different, as you've heard before, this is how it feels FOR ME.

In the beginning I would feel myself separate from my body. Usually my upper body first then my lower body. Now however... I am JUST OUT. I still feel the vibrations however they are a lot less intense and I'm OUT much quicker once they hit now. Also, well they used to be all over head-to-toe they are sometimes now only in my head. I don't know about anyone else but I MUCH PREFER feeling myself leave my body so I know I am out. LOL.

I have only left my bedroom once during an OBE and I don't know how I did it. I wasn't thinking ooooh, I'd like to go.... nope. It also happened so fast it was as though something else, or someone else rather, wanted me there and somehow brought me there? I have never gone flying as others have stated because I'm too damn scared to try it! LOL. Sucks! I have only felt myself floating above my body once. A few times I have just felt SO RELAXED head to toe that I feel myself sink into my mattress! Usually I am just laying behind or in front of my body.

I guess my nickname could have been SLOW LEARNER for this website since my first experience was way back when I was 19 or 20 and here I am 34 and still have no control over them. Grrr.

Good luck!  :-)
