Hi,

Theres been a bit of a roumer on the chat room that its closing? not helped by the fact that the links to the Java chat has dissapeared from the unlimitedboundaries.ca site and the AUP is also missing!

Xanth, you giving up the IRC room?

Xanth

Several of us were getting DDos'd by a couple individuals who stopped in, and since IRC is a massive security risk in itself, I've decided to drop the channel entirely.
So yeah, I'm sorry to say yes... well, it's not exactly CLOSED, as I can't do that.  I have dropped the channel though.

Feel free to use the channel, you can join it still by the usual means... but I won't be going there anymore.  In any case, you know where you can find me.

I'm going to be focusing my energy towards the Astral Pulse, my own website and my Phasing Primer in an attempt to help out people best I can.  :)

Hi Xanth,

That is a real shame that you should let a few idiots ruin it for everyone. Quite dissapointed to be honest.
How about you just drop the IRC protocol (it is out dated, and youre right it does expose peoples IP addresses) and instead have a look for a web based chat which is more secure then you can just link it direct from the website and viola we're all back in again.

I think its a great resource to directly chat to people about these topics and youre room was the best out there.

I do hope to continue seeing you around mate

Cheers

Definitely a good idea.  One that I'll look into.

For the time being, I'm going to see if Adrian (the owner of the Astral Pulse) might be interested in running a live chat feature here instead.  I'll see what I can do.  :)

Sounds good Xanth :) I look forward to it :)

Lolwhat?! Guys... I've been using IRC for years. IRC is more secure than many of these modern "chat" systems, like Skype, which doesn't even encrypt broadcasted messages. If you connect via ssl, at least your messages can't be eavesdropped on without a tremendous amount of trouble. In fact, I've never heard of this happening/

If you are worried about your IP, either put the channel on a server that allows vhosting via hostserv, create one that masks all members on join by default,  use a remote server like I do, connect via ssh and be invisible, or set up proper IP table rules. I use Freenode often, which is known as a "technical/computer nerd" network and I've never had any sort of issue with hacking.

Live chats are less secure. Lot of exploits exist in java and flash chats, I've seen those get hacked before and mebers impersonated. You also don't have near the amount of control over problem users that one does on irc.
