I was falling asleep, and telling myself that everything from here on out would be a dream. After the hypnogogic sounds passed, I found myself in one of those short, flickery dreams. I knew it was a dream. I couldn't though, for some reason, obtain lucidity. I tried to. I couldn't. I'm hoping to have more success tonight. :-D

Why couldn't I become lucid? Was I just so tired?

It's not that you're tired. It's just your awareness. To get more clarity, next time try yelling out " MORE CLARITY NOW! "

You knew it was a dream... you were already lucid.
It sounds like you were trying to increase that to astral awareness?

What were you doing in order for the increase to happen?

I ask myself questions... who am I?  where am I?  how'd I get here?  where am I going?
Answering those usually triggers my waking awareness and pushes my subconscious mind into the background.
