Shaking Bed During pre-OBE state

So this shaking bed occurance happened last night, but there have been other times that i can recall this happening in the past. I'm not EXACTLY sure on how everything happened but here's what I think happened. Last night I was in the middle of a random hot sweat (the first I've had in a while) and after about an hour or so I believe, I was finally able to fall asleep. I remember dreaming, but for some apparent reason i awoke abruptly from my dream in sleep paralysis, but I didn't realize i was in the state until after attempting to move failed. I closed my eyes and immediately wound back up in my dream (which never happens). It caught my by surprised and confused me so much that I back up. When this happened, I began feeling vibrations, but my eyes were open (which also never happens). Just to add to speculation, in a recent most I talked about how I could see spiritual body leaving my physical body with an eye open. So while i felt these vibrations, I could feel my body shaking and I remember asking myself if it was an earthquake or not. After a few moments, I closed my eyes again and felt even stronger vibrations and saw IMMENSE white light much like I've experienced during my very first few experiences which is odd because recently, due to the many more OBE's I've had, I don't usually feel the vibrations so strong or see the light so bright anymore. This is irrelevant, but I think I should mention it because the shaking bed + strong vibrations + super bright light + random hot sweat aren't very common with my recent experiences. Once I felt the phase, I began separation, but quickly changed my mind because I had been so frustrated with being unable to sleep due to the hot sweat, and I had a final i had to take in 4 hours. This morning I checked if there was an earthquake on the internet, but there was nothing, so I got all confused haha.

heyy..the bed shaking thing happened to me last night 2.... :-D...maybe it was a earthquake... :-P..
nah..i think the bed shaking thing is common because i was trying obe last night... :roll:

It was the vibrations. At sometimes they feel soo real and brain rattling one could swear they're from the physical. A very strange phenomena indeed.

I haven't thought about my "bed shaking" incident for a long time. It happened to me only once, and was one of the early vivid / strange hallucinations which at the time I didn't have a name for.
I too thought it was an earthquake, or an airplane about to crash. I could feel the wall banging against my head! (This was NOT like the vibrations I had much later.)
So I started to jump up and run to my daughter's room and instantly it all stopped. It hasn't happened since.

A long series of people-in-the-room or weight-on-my-bed episodes followed until I happened on this forum and have started to make some sense of it. I personally feel it was just a strong physical hallucination rather than the "vibes"... since then both the weirdness and intensity levels have come down for me. You may never have a violent shaking again, so don't worry about it.

Summerlander

The bed shaking is an hallucination and so is the bright light. The sweating is due to the the release of adrenaline and catecholamines in that state because, in case you don't know, the amygdala is stimulated in SP and palpitations are also common. By the way - are you sure your eyes were open or was it the other vision in the Phase?

@Lizelle:
Well it's weird cause I've experienced this phenomenon a handful of times before. Ever since my first OBE, things have leveled out to much more calm state when I project, but that may simply be due to the fact that I'm becoming much more familiar with projecting. This occurred only a few days after another OBE in which I experienced much more calm and "normal" sensations. And each of these shaky experiences haven't been violent in a fearful sense but is somewhat "violent" in terms of how it feels. I hope that makes sense!

@Summerlander
Ahh, I'm glad someone knows the scientific aspects of projecting. Got some research to do because 3 or 4 of the terms you named are unknown to me haha. Thanks. And I'm normally aware of when I'm seeing physically or if I'm seeing in the phase. Generally, from what I've come to believe is energy, I can see it much more vividly and naturally without having to focus as I usually do when I'm physically awake. I'm not exactly sure what you mean though. Are you asking if I was seeing with my physical eyes or if i was actually seeing with my astral eyes in the phase?

The astral eyes. The other vision. This vision can be so realistic to the point of making you think that you opened your physical eyes. Separation from the body can also emulate physical movement. Sometimes, when you think you are merely getting out of bed, you are really moving incorporeally. You are on the right track with your experiences. SP leads to Phase entry.

By the way, I use the broad term "Phase" to mean OOBEs/AP/LDs.

Ahh okay i understand. What I experienced most recently a few days before this, was that I was having trouble getting both astral eyes to open during separation. Instead I would have my right physical eye open and my left astral eye open. Sometimes when I wake up in sleep paralysis it's obvious that I'm seeing with my astral eyes due to an altered perception of my senses, but maybe in this case things seemed much more in the physical. If one wakes up in paralysis or in that state-of-mind to project, then perhaps they're seeing with their astral eyes to some extent or another?

yeah I used to get this all the time before I ever even knew what astral projection was.  I always thought they were earth quakes too.  They felt exactly like them.  Sometimes I remember even getting out of bed, standing up, and looking at my bed for minutes to see if it was shaking.

when i found out about astral projection I was mind blown, i had no idea anything like this was possible.  When I read about the vibrations I immediately knew that is what was happening. I think maybe the next time or time after I felt my bed shaking, i tried to increase the vibrations like everyone says and I popped out of my body. I still remember it perfectly, i looked back at my body and it was all shriveled and shaking so it scared me back in.

I have experienced this as well in deep meditation.  I tend to think along with Summerland that it is a hallucination, though it sure is a convincing sensation!  Bed shakes, the headboard rattles.

Holy crap, I've had this so many times before ever trying to AP. I thought it was an effin ghost under the bed or something, hahaha! Now I know to embrace it and not be afraid. It's probably a part of starting to AP.

maybe it wasn't a earthquake or vibrations.. maybe it was your significant other "Shook you All Night Long" and you thought you were having a OBE...: )

its the vibrations friend... setup a video camera every night and record your physical body when you have the experience. nothing will happen except you'll see the physical body sleeping, but on the other (inner side) you'll feel vibrations.

lol I've had the exact opposite of your experiences.

I woke up during an earthquake once and was like wow this is new. Was waiting to have an obe or some kind of contact with a guide or something.

Lizelle

FWIW, I've experienced the "earthquake" (once) and vibrations (many times) - and IMO they are totally different phenomena. The "quake" feels external; the vibrations feel internal. Vibrations (for me) don't shake the whole house.

Also with the quake there was no paralysis - I jumped right up, and was about to run into my daughter's room and get her under the bed. Of course I found myself on my feet in a completely quiet and still house.

I can only assume that something or someone wanted to get my attention, because at the time I was just shrugging it off as a weird dream state.

i agree in that they do feel very different. i'm considering the possibility that the "earthquake" sensation may be due to vibrations in a much more body awake state.
