Hi everyone. I'm new here, my name is Mike, and I just stumbled upon/been obsessing over this subject of Astral Projection. I'll try to keep everything short and to the point but I just have a slight experience and a few questions.

I was studying lucid dreaming on the internet one day when I stubled upon Astral Projection. The stories and the massive amount of people/information on it amazed me, so of course I decided one night to try it. I went to youtube and found some meditation/astral projection stuff to help relax and calm my mind (since I believe I'm an overthinker and constantly think of a million things). The audio toldme to relax everthing starting with my feet up to my head and literally I felt every part relaxing as he said it. Once it got up to my head I felt extremly relaxed and continuously saw this light pattern going from a large ring to a small ring as if traveling backwards at a constant speed (I see this light pattern every time). All of a sudden my heart started beating so fast and hard and I started shaking. I was not cold at all but after I was shaking uncontrollably I said screw this and opened my eyes because I was terrified.

Upon sitting up I instantly recalled a dream from my past. I can only remember 2 dreams from my young days (like before 5 years old). One was me falling in a shark tank, and one was from when I was a baby in my crib and I remember looking at myself from above, just laying there in my crib at night as I heard my neighbor and dog bark outside my house. The realization of what that probably was definately freaked me out, but I'm going to try again this week.

I have 3 questions if anyone can help me out with them.
1. What's best to listen to while you attempt? (Binaural beats, mediation music, nothing, etc.)
2. What should your surroundings be? Should the room be all dark? How should you lay? etc.
3. My main goal is to visit my best friend that died 5 years ago, should i attempt to travel to his grave which is right down the street?

Any answers, tips, help, recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thank you all for reading :)

The waves you describe are a good sign- I get them sometimes when I'm in trance, and I feel movement- I use them to launch.  Now, here's my answer to your questions:
Quote1. What's best to listen to while you attempt? (Binaural beats, mediation music, nothing, etc.)
Everyone is different, but for me nothing is best.  This is because sensory deprivation helps to 'tune you in' to nonphysical stimulus.
Quote2. What should your surroundings be? Should the room be all dark? How should you lay? etc.
IMO dark is best for the above mentioned reason, but if darkness makes you uncomfortable, a dim light (like a nightlight) is ok, in fact I understand that the combo of ambient dark and just a dim light (shaded) can stimulate the pineal gland.  And no, I don't remember where I read this.  But it's up to you.
I project in the early morning before the sun is up, experiment.
As to position, whichever makes you comfortable enough to trance but not so comfortable that you pass out- I use a recliner.
Quote3. My main goal is to visit my best friend that died 5 years ago, should i attempt to travel to his grave which is right down the street?
No and yes- the grave is where his body is, and where you want to see him is in the collective area of the astral where the departed go to.  Having said that, if you have an association of him and his grave, then maybe directing yourself there may actually take you where he 'really' is- but If it were me, I'd go to where he used to live, that is, direct yourself there, and you'll end up wherever he is, represented that way.
I will say that I recommend you practice projecting for the sake of projecting first, and when you get a handle on it then try to go to him.  I personally have found it helpful to ask for help to be directed to whom I needed to see.

I totally see the same pattern all the time! I also experience recalling dreams from a long time ago. We must be very alike! (also an over-thinker).
I wish you the best of luck! This is a wonderful place to learn and grow :D

Thank you for your help. I think I'll mess around with everything and find out what situations are best suited for me. And as for going to find my friend, I know for a fact I would only start in my room, I know it's gonna scare me the first few times and take awhile to get used to but once I realize everything's alright is when I'll venture out. I don't know much about the aid because I have yet to project but I've read about calling it, so what would the best way to call for my aid be?

ryan1337:

Haha awesome and thanks! I hope I make some progress! Another freaky thing is about 2 years ago I started thinking about my honest religious views (my bible views were shattered when my best friend who was a huge religious kid died in a car accident) and the only thing I felt like I knew is that we have a spirit, something inside of us that makes us who we are, and when we die our energy is transfered (since in physics energy can not be destroyed only transfered). Well all of this Astral Projection seems to be exactly what I came up with to believe trying to be as rational as possible. There's just to many coincidence's with this stuff.

ryan1337

That is shockingly similar to my story... O.O I'm freaked out now!

Well, it depends on what your beliefs are.  You can start simple by asking your Higher Self or Guides or God to send you to him in a dream- it's easier than OBE projecting and you feel more safe.  Less pressure to perform and all that.
The same can be said about projection- try to OBE around your room, get your 'feet wet', so to speak, and gather up some experience- experience will make it easier to go to 'higher' places and see more things.  Really, nothing beats experience.

Hi,
If you suffer from noise when trying then get a white noise recording. Not too loud but enough to drown out the worst expected.

There's plenty on youtube one is 2 hours long.

2 hours of ''That sweet noise''  everyone likes

search with the whole title above for it.
Enjoy.
There's far more where the eye can't see.
Close your eyes and open your mind.

It's fate! haha :)

CFTraveler:

Yeah, I definately need to have a projection first, hopefully it'll be soon :/

Szaxx:

Hmm, I haven't tried white noise, but I'm definately willing to try EVERYTHING I have to to succeed!

You might have a talent for this stuff judging by your first attempt.

Post your progress here. It's possible you may not be able to repeat your near-success, in which case I have some advice for you.

I tried two more times but didn't get back to how it was that first time. I have some time tonight so I'll be trying again. I'm noticing the best thing to get me in that relaxed state is certain mediation music, like the kind made specificly for meditating. I'm also a very huge dreamer, ever since I can remember I've always dreamed more than my friends and remembered them more then them too. I just started attempting lucid dreaming (since I've become lucid in dreams many times without trying in the past) to gain control over them and after one week I had my first successful intentional LD. Once I become lucid I lost all control and everything went dark but I didn't wake up until the dream was over. So being as this is slightly related maybe I do have a decent natural talent...hopefully at least.

Any advice you have is greatly accepted, so feel free to tell me anything. Thanks!  :-)

I don't wanna jinx you by setting up any expectations: I had pretty good results my first couple of tries and then nothing for a long time. Seems like a pattern: people try for the first time, weird things happen, they get excited, and then their expectations sabotage their efforts.

Expectations can definitely cause problems. I think it's because when you expect something to happen, you start trying to make it happen. The best way to approach this is to not expect anything.

I had made a post here: http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/welcome_to_astral_consciousness/where_to_gaze_during_noticing-t35419.0.html;msg294123#msg294123

Simply put, learning to do stuff such as astral projection or even just meditation... it's all about learning what NOT to do.  And those things are kind of those "things" you learn as you grow up.  So you need to unlearn the stuff you've learned throughout your life.  :)
