I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on meditation techniques in preparation  to attempt astral projection. I often find my mind restless in my attempts so I am wanting to try meditation sessions to help relax my mind prior to attempting a projection.

I have found, however, that when I take 10-15 minutes to do some stretches and some push ups and sit ups I am able to relax my body a lot quicker.
Basically I can get my body to the relaxed state in needs to be pretty well but not so much my mind.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Theres a saying 'mind awake body asleep'.
Its exactly this state you need to be in. youre almost there so great news.
I can offer a good read with almost everything you need to know.
Its sobt.pdf.  (school of out of body travel).
Search for it and read carefully, its quite amazing.
200 pages thereabouts.
There's far more where the eye can't see.
Close your eyes and open your mind.

I will tell you, some already know if they remember, that everything I claim to know about meditation (in this life) I learned from Master Splinter and the Archie version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Buddhism in erotic, radical, hyper shell form!  TURTLE POWER DUDE!

Basically, when you meditate, you are not focusing 'anything' or 'any thing'.  And you concentrate that 'energy' which isn't energy itself, but is actually potential.  That's why they said to 'silence your thoughts, keep your mind and body very still'.  The more of that raw psi or potential that you can concentrate, the more incredible things you will be able to do, even on the physical plane.

-sit in position
-breathe deep, nourishing breaths
-absorb any thought with intention to stop thought from surfacing from that point onward
-concentrate the raw, unlimited omniversal potential into your aura and body, or into specific chakra if need be

If you are just focusing on 'no thing' or 'nothing', I've noticed that the only effect you get is a luminous shield of white light.  Not only this, but focusing without proper breathing and concentration leaves you wide open to all kinds of astral attacks, be they telepathic or unintentional (the phone rings, someone comes to the door, you hear a voice but don't know where it is, ect).  When you are using this so called 'law of attraction', you can recreate your reality by focusing the omniversal potential, then concentrating the desired effect.  It's what people have been saying, you use your intent.  If intent is an inadequate term, you can use faith, or will.  In fact, intent, faith, and will are like a process that you take energetically in order to concentrate.

I have more to say but it is premature.  Basically what I want to say is that when you go astral, your mind is focusing a higher intensity of time energy, and, the spatial dimension is not as concentrated.  It could be the other way around, I have to actually go astral to verify this.  I am not a neuphyte!  I have no astral abilities.  What I think is that when you build up this potential and have concentrated it in your aura or mind or being, when you astral, that potential becomes pure light, and due to the relationship between light and time, you can astral indefinitely, to the point that physical existence ceases to exist.

But yeah, you have to use deep, rhthymic breathing.  Something I learned today is that breathing scrapes on the inside of the lungs and creates static, which, distorts the physical energy and it becomes more animate, and custom fit.  Breathing the (air) generates (bio-electricity).  So stop smoking!  I might and get really religious about this.

Other than that, if you have no more interest in physical reality or anyone or anything that exists here, you can always let go of all your current light, and simply allow that potential to fill you from the inside out.  It's really a win win situation.  God didn't create (pardon, some do not believe there is a God) Life for it to be defeated, He or She or They or It created Life so that each soul would have ultimate victory.  I am certain of this.

There are a number of ways to meditate. Tom Campbell tells people about Mantras. His personal one is "Ah-Lum-Baa-Dee Dum, Ah Lum Bar Dee Dum". It is basically chanting a simple sequence that has no intellectual meaning. A number of people also use the technique of counting, I used to count to 300 slowly and not really focus on anything. Some people here use the counting method but count at a rapid pace, flashing the numbers in their mind quickly as they count. The basic idea is to do something that gets you away from focusing on your physical body.

Meditation has come to mean many different things to people over the years. Most guru's will tell you that meditation as the majority of the world views it is not correct "meditation". That is not to say that it is not beneficial, it's just not what they consider "meditation". The name of the practice honestly isn't important as long as you understand the concept. Meditation as guru's see it (and how smoke described it above) is completely voiding the brain of any conceptualizing. Extending your ability to remain in that mentally clear state is the practice that the guru's call meditation. Empty your head of all thoughts and try to keep it like that as long as you can. You know that feeling when you think you hear the doorbell/telephone ring but you aren't sure so you freeze your body really quick and pay really close attention? In that brief instant of uncertainty you are void of mental conception as you slow down everything to verify if what you think happened actually happened or not. If you can become familiar with this state and then work on lengthening it you are practicing meditation. An easy technique is to pretend that you are listening for a phone ringing. Don't worry about who could be calling or get into any thought patterns like that, just anticipate hearing the phone ring. Get used to that empty-minded state.

What most people have come to know as meditation is what guru's call concentration exercises. I still think of it as a form of meditation, but that's just me. This includes an almost infinite variety of techniques including internally/externally chanting mantras, counting, visualizing, focusing on breath, anything that really narrows the focus of your attention to one particular "point". This is a very useful practice when it comes to astral projection because the better you are at focusing, the longer you will be able to have a stable clear experience out of body. You can experiment with any technique you want as long as you understand the concept of the practice, which is to try and stay focused on one thing for as long as can, and then practice extending the length of the time you can focus. An easy way to grasp this concept is simply counting in your mind. You will come to a number where your mind starts to wander and you start thinking things instead of counting. Try to recognize this number and work on increasing this number. The higher you can count, the longer you can focus. It's that simple.

These are both considered meditation to me and I find them both to be beneficial and almost complimentary to each other and also extremely helpful in achieving and maintaining the phase state/astral projection/OBE whatever you practice. Even more helpful if you have ADD ;-)

You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. Perhaps some day you'll join us, and the world will live as one.

I used the counting method last night and the "mind awake body asleep" the night before and they seemed to help a lot with keeping my mind off my physical body but I ended up falling asleep haha. That's what I get for practicing so late at night. I usually practice during the day but sometimes I don't get the chance so I do it whenever I am able.
But yeah hopefully that will help out. All of your guys advise has been and greatly appreciated. I'm glad I found this side where I can discuss these kind of things with other people who aren't just like "whatever" about it.
