so...i had my first astral projection experience about four years ago...before i knew what the term 'astral prjection' was.

i had what i thought was an alien abduction happen to me one night, but being a very logical, educated person...quickly dismissed that as just a very realistic, insane dream. then....the very next night, it happened again. only this time it was more intense and i actually "floated." that's when i started googling "floating dreams" and discovered the term 'astral projection.'

since that time four years ago...i've had these experiences off and on. there's no set pattern. sometimes, i'll have them a few nights in a row..then not have them for a few weeks...then have one again. other times, i'll have one and not have another one for several months. i have to say that for the most part....they have been very frightening experiences for me.

there was one time where they were happening so frequently that i decided to "let go" and let them happen. i had one experience that stands out as enjoyable, but other than that...i would prefer it not happen. i would hear the buzzing, feel my body vibrating, and try with everything i had in me to open my eyes and make it stop.

after several months of not having one of these "episodes"...it happened last night. well, actually...it happened a couple weeks ago, but i was able to stop it before it got very far. but last night...i couldn't stop it. i was trying forcefully to open my eyes and i would see a bright, bright light that almost more scary than what was happening when i would close them. i ended up taking off in flight...going right through my closed bedroom door (something that used to be difficult)....and passing by what appeared to be my son standing in the hallway (first time that has happened). when i was able to "come to" or wake up i reached over and felt my son lying in the bed, peacefully sleeping as he had been. i knew it wasn't as "real" as it had felt. while i was projecting, i felt as if my son were actually there watching me "float." it was very scary...and i patted/scratched him on the head as i whisped on by since i felt he had to be scared or at least shocked as well.

i don't know that i have a point here. i guess i wanted to just share some of my experience. i would like for it to stop....if anyone has any insight on how to make that happen. over the past few years i've posted my experiences a couple of times and gotten responses of, "you're lucky! there are people who try for years to do what you do!"

i don't feel "lucky." i don't know why this happens to me. it frightens me to put it nicely. it scares the shyt outta me, actually.

any thoughts....comments...or suggestions are welcome.

try sleeping in a different position, they used to happen to me a lot but nearly always when I was on my back or else if I was to cold and I think the cold used to bring me close to waking and cause awareness in the dream that at that time I did not know how to control.  If you do feel this coming on move a body part, it can be as simple as a toe and this will break the effect. It sounds like sleep paralysis so Google this as well

it's definitely not sleep paralysis. i have been "in flight" more than i can count, and 'wiggling a toe' is not even an option...it was in the beginning. i put in so much effort now that i try to open my eyes and sit up in bed....as i said...what i saw when i opened my eyes was more frightening than what was happening when they were closed (if they were in fact even open).

it doesn't matter what position i sleep in. at first, i slept on back and that's when it seemed to happen. since then, it has happened when i sleep on my stomach, my side, you name it.

the ONLY thing i have discovered thus far that seems to stop it is if i'm making physical contact with another human being. after the first couple nights i experienced it (before i really knew what it was) i had shared with my husband what was happening, how frightened i was, and told him what i had read about from my research....we discussed sleep paralysis and astral projection. i was so afraid to fall asleep after those first episodes that he would literally sleep on top of me. it wouldn't happen if he slept on top of me.

as you can imagine, it's not too comfortable sleeping on top of someone or having someone sleep on top of you ALL night long. that was just in the beginning. since then, when i have woke up after an episode...i have rolled over and hugged my husband while i slept...or even my child...and when i do that, it doesn't happen again. otherwise, if i'm able to open my eyes or move my body so that i make it stop...every time i start to drift back to sleep...the buzzing/vibrating of my body begins.

Hi Allupintheair,
Welcome to the Pulse.
You are experiencing what myself and few others have.
Think about being 4 years old or maybe younger and having this. Yes its scary but dont reject it. It's an honour to be in possession of such a gift.
The fears associated with it are actually self driven, meaning you are not aware of whats controlling these events even though its you and the way it works is thoughts=action. This is one of a new set of rules to get familiar with. It can't be switched off much the same as you dont want to be able to walk because your friends are wheelchair bound.
Its a very good thing once developed. Eg.
You KNOW who is a bad person by being near them.
You know things before they happen.
You know about places before you've ever visited them.
Its strange and takes time to get used to. Think about learning more before you become frustrated.
Its a good thing and really needs to be embraced rather than rejected.
Read and ask questions first.
There's far more where the eye can't see.
Close your eyes and open your mind.

Hi allupintheair
Hey I will give you a tip. when this happens to you repeat to yourself "I am not afraid, nothing can hurt me!" even if you dont believe it saying it helps. I think you will find that your experiances are scary BECAUSE you are fearful.
How are your sleeping patterns? keeping them regular should help you avoid having OBEs. also when the buzzing starts try breathing hard and forceful. sometimes that can help to snap you out of it.

It's very reassuring, and might help you see the (huge) positive side of your " gift " :).
If you are a religious person, try doing a prayer or whatever religious act makes you feel comfortable before going into bed.
