Hey all, I feel Im at the point where I could potentially have OBEs fairly regularly. Often times at night I'll fall asleep then wake up in about an hour or so, presumably at the start of the dream cycle right into what seems like an exit. I realize this is probably good that my body is getting trained, but the sudden pop into consciousness at the entrance of what feels like falling tunnel with the bright lights flashing in my eyelids from a sleeping state startles me and I end up just waking up rather then having an OBE.  I've found also I have a good technique for inducing these too where I will relax myself and just visualize for 20 minutes or so and really make it detailed and the same transition starts, but im having a problem where the sudden onset of it startles me and I dont end up making it.

This is really frustrating as it seems to me I could be having alot of these experiences now, and I want to alot, but being startled is messing it up for me. Does anyone have any advice what I could do about this? If only my brain would transition first then wake up my mind so i can bypass the falling tunnel feeling. For the record, i do know im fine and nothing bad is happening to me and the noises and such dont bother me which is what makes it more strange that i get startled.

Thanks so much for anyone with advice about this, i imagine i need to learn to just relax, and allow it to happen, but it seems easier said then done.

The more it happens, the more you will get used to it. It just happens that way. After awhile it won't bother you at all. I will tell you one thing though, if you weren't having this sudden annoyance, there is a very good chance that you wouldn't even notice you were in or even starting a OBE. Sometimes you have to be shocked enough that you notice things, this is one of those times.
Last week I was enjoying a Phase session where I was passively enjoying a calm, tranquil Riverboat scene. All of a sudden there was a blinding flash/flare, this light was so bright that it was enough to cause me to have a severe eye strain. The pain felt like it shot right into the left side of my brain, it is was deep. I haven't been on here for awhile because of this. I had my an eye patch on for awhile. But, I understand why this happened. I just wish the lesson could have been learned in a more painfree way, lol. I thought my physical eyes were asleep or at least dormant. Turns out I was wrong, I must have been viewing this entire Phase sessions with my physical eyes. Actually I might have been doing this for a long time as well in other sessions. This did not stop me from practicing at all though. I went right back to it the next day, but this time all my focus was on not using my physical eyes, kind of turning them completely off, the time it took me to turn them off was enough to find myself right at the 3D darkness and I found it made it easier and also made the images vivid much faster than in the past.
This shows you why sometimes it's important to get a "wake up" call of sorts.  :-)

Thanks for replying, and sorry about your eye. I didnt know such a thing could happen. Is it you got sunglare from your phase? Its a good thing i dont usually visualize sunny beaches.. But Im curious what you meant by a wake up call, I very much like the idea of transitioning without ever noticing this is happening. I'd say I've been shocked, but I am unsure what I should be noticing? Am I doing something wrong to feel like im falling down a very narrow tunnel with bright flashes in my eye lids? If there is a lession here, Im not seeing it, for lack of a better word lol.

I really hope this passes soon, its so annoying to be on the verge of being regularly able to do this only to get held back by such a silly situation. I can tell you I am a gamer, and being into science, a avid lifelong star trek fan, so between the too I think im well prepared mentally for whatever experiences await me on the other side, because quite frankly some of these video games seem designed by people on drugs so OBEing cant be worse then that! ;) Not to mention I rarely ever have normal dreams, usually Im exploring alien worlds or Im delving through fantasy dungeons. On a side note, these unusual dreams make it difficult for me to teach myself reality checks as Im rarely doing things in my dreams that are normal lol

Since you are an avid Sci-fi fan this will make more sense to you. Picture yourself going through the portal in the show Stargate. You see all the vivid colors/flashing lights and things warping by you. Now, look at what we are doing. You are traversing the universe, leaving your physical focus completely, don't you think that warrants bell and whistles?
You will find that it will tone down after awhile though. Like I said practice is your friend here!  :-)

Hi,
These flashes have been known as strobeing like a camera flash, a very bright one and are part of development. The name escapes me at present having listened to 4 books last week but its as important as vibrations but on a higher level. Your inner self has much to offer.
C W Leadbeater may have been the person commenting, I'll open the books and search again for this info. It may be part of Franks posts on here as I've been listening to these too.
I'll get back on this as I too have experienced these strobes.

Thanks Szaxx, thats exactly what its like, strobing like camera flashes when im trying to go through the OBE exit. I like to think my inner self has much to offer, i wish it'd let me transition smoother though. I was thinking about this, does anyone think I'd have a easier time of transiting if i attempted this when I was really tired?  So there is no chance my body could really resist I mean. Would that make it easier on me to cross over the first few times until i get use to it?

As I understand it, if your body is deeply fatigued its impossible for it to resist the process.

You can try if you like when you are more fatigued, but there is a good chance you will fall asleep. Szaxx is spot on here, this is a part of development. Think of it like a "learning curve".  The more you practice, the more it lessens or becomes less noticeable. I welcome this stage because I know what come next is worth this small annoyance. You have to tell yourself to allow yourself to go further, to pass this point and move on. The first time I actually Phased successfully it felt like my head was going to explode, that's how intense it was. But I knew that I must get through this if I wished to ever achieve my goal. The alternative was just quitting and never trying to project again. But that would mean that I succumbed to fear and was never really ready in the first place.

I see what your saying, I've been trying every time the feeling hits and I've gotten farther, now I can hang on alittle longer and i hear this buzzing and SSSssssing noises in my ear, and the vibrations have been increasing more and more each time during this. The sounds arent really distracting though, its more the effect on my stomach that gets me and I gasp which of course moves my throat and stops it.

Hopefully I'll be able to push through more and more, I dont know if anyone knows how annoying it is to come to the exit so often and each time getting stopped so while being so close to crossing over.

Im curious though, does any one mentor new astral travelers around here? I think I could use someone to talk to about it. I have compelling reasons for needing to do this and could use help. The only person i know who can do this is a wiccan, and shes always listing off rules and dos and do nots for when is "astral projecting" and its not helping because I dont believe in the spiritual twist on all this, maybe after I experience it my mind will change, but for now in my opinion this is just a more intense form of lucid dreaming. No offense to anyone who is finds this a spiritual experience.

This is extremely frustrating, but the rewards far outweigh the anguish.
On the Mentor question. If I were you I would pick a member here who can associate with your chosen technique, then PM them and ask if they wish to help you on more of a private level. Personally that is why I am here on this site myself. I don't want to make my own website or do webinars etc.. I want to help people that wish to seriously experience this and if that comes through more of a personal channel, then so be it.  :-)

Hi,
When the vibrations have finished your body is primed to exit from what I've read from reputable sources. There's a pull at the beginning of them too and its easily missed. I've 5 experiences of vibes 2 of them through intent since the mid 60's. As a result I can't really comment on experiences.
You're being passive and really wanting to exit is a good start after the vibes have ceased. Its a natural process, don't overdo the trying.
You're very close.
Best of luck.
