i'm new here, and wanting to share, but also so curious for insights or similar stories!
When I was very young, probably about four years old, I became conscious during a dream.  I remember it clearly and all around me was a cartoon land and I started running over this rainbow and there were so many cartoon beings on it and before I could do anything fun, I woke up.  I've always wondered if the rainbow had any symbolism...

As a teenager I had a few months of sleep paralysis...it scared me so much I slept with a broom so I could turn the light on from my bed.  I always had a hooded figure waiting at the foot of the bed.  My sister also recalled me screaming many times as a child in the middle of the night about someone with a hood at the end of my bed.  the sleep paralysis has occured as an adult but not so frightening anymore.  Anyone else seen this hooded person?

About four years ago, I had a spontaneous OBE.  I was home alone and woke up at 1:40 am.  Being alone and a bit paranoid, I told myself to go back to sleep before I was stuck being wide awake.  As soon as I closed my eyes I heard this incredibly loud bang/crack like something struck the earth, or the earth split in two.  It was so intense, I sat up and called 911.  Some one answered and yelled at me to state my name and location, which baffled me.  i went on to explain what i had heard and to see if everything was alright outside and this person just sneered and asked me if it ever occured to me that other people live here too...at which point I heard the lady who lived in the basement suite start screaming.  I hung up and ran to the adjoining door and a orange frog or toad was on the step which I stepped around.  (this is where It should have occured to me that this wasn't real). I went downstairs and saw two strangers standing beside my neighbours bed which was wheeled into the dining room with her in it face down.  I asked if everything was alright.  They told me she was having a heart attack.  I asked if I could help and my neighbours head jerked up, her mouth was red and her eyes were black and she screamed at me, " you can't help me!". I started backing up the stairs terrified and woke up in my bed at 1:43.  Until I woke up in my bed I had no clue that I had fallen back asleep.  It scared me to my core.

Now, I'm focused and determined to project onto a positive and loving plane.  I can induce the sleep paralysis here and there but can't seem to get out.  Its like a muscle I don't have or know where to find it!  But, my dreams are very beautiful, if only I could be present in them!  I look forward to reading more of yiur experiences and hopefully one day be writing about my first AP.  Thanks so much for listening, going back to the archives to read :).

Hello and Welcome to the Astral Pulse. The "hooded figure" has been reported by many people through the years, but there are also a lot of people that have never experienced him. Personally, I think of him as the Astral Gatekeeper and his duty is to be your first fear test, for you can't go any further in the Astral unless you confront your fears. A lot of people get freaked out and quit upon seeing him,  other people get more curious and delve deeper. It all depends whether you will run in fear or stay and ask him a question on your current level of development.
You are definitely on the right website to aid you on your way. It looks like you have only had spontaneous events as of yet. Meditation will help you more than anything now. Learn how to just focus your mind outside of your body. Meaning, once you learn to release your focus on this physical reality, you will see that the only thing left is the Nonphysical Reality.
Good Luck and Safe Travels!  :-)

If you can remember them, you are already present in them. You just need to learn to be "aware" in them, then you can guide them or completely alter them to your liking!  :-)

Thanks lionheart :). I meditate when I can.  i steal moments throughout the day.  Im a dog groomer and barking dogs are hard to ignore, so I do most of my meditating at night, which usually just puts me to sleep.  The hooded figure is something i've looked into and know many people see him.  Ive never heard of it being considered a test but that makes sense.  i have been off and on for the last ten years with astral projection.  Many times I gave up on my intentions because I realized my fear was too great...but now I'm determined to not be afraid because I'm much more afraid of not exploring the universe..  :).

A few weekends ago I do think I had a notable experience..  It was a sunday morning and I had the freedom to sleep in.  So in the morning I induced the sleep paralysis and I could feel some tugging so I laid there waiting and my eyes opened and I could see my dogs plastic kennel bright in the sun and I was disappointed cause I was wide awake...  But later I realized I was staring at a green kennel and his actual kennel is blue!

Good things happen when you confront your fears!  :-)
I have the sunlight scene quite a bit, usually during False Awakenings. I usually stay up quite late or early should I say, so I awaken later in the day, I am a night owl. There is a number of times when I think I am outside seeing the blue sky, feeling the sun warmth and a light breeze on my skin etc., then all of a sudden I wake up. Not always is it bright and sunny outside for real when this happens.

Hi Sarah, welcome to the Pulse.
Your post on the scarey bits took me back to my childhood. Once you confront these things by shouting back with no fear at all this subject opens up a doorway into the peace and love you're searching for.
Best of luck.

Hi Sarah. I've had sleep paralysis on and off, and always either go into shock and find myself trying to shake myself awake or giving up and falling asleep. But I have never seen the hooded man. I think if I saw him I would be even more scared out of my wits. I had sleep paralysis five times in one night in a hotel room and had to jump into my friends bed :D . Then I thought crap it, I wasn't comfortable sleeping in her bed so I jumped back to my own, had sleep paralysis again and just ignored it.

Once on my 'attempted' journeys at past life regression (I do this at night and most of the time fall asleep), I have seen 3 shadows coming towards me which shocked me awake. I haven't seen it again. But speaking to a rather spiritual friend of my sister's who practiced meditation since small one day while we were shopping, she showed me a small rock to buy at a nursery and told me to hold it in my hand when I make my attempts (the rock costed around $2). She told me that the rock would keep me grounded. It is peace of mind if anything else.

I can't imagine how scary it must be for you to see the hooded man or the black eyed neighbour. Mum recounted years ago that she saw a man at the end of her bed once when she suffered from sleep paralysis but he wasn't hooded. The man was believed to be a spirit connected to the hand me down mattress from outside the family :-). Hence no more hand me down mattresses

So glad that your experience are no longer scary.

The hooded swings are There or Papa Bones. He is the gate keeper between the living and non living. Don't weary you will know if he is coming to get you. He does not like it but it's one of his duties.

Hi Sammy. I think you might be confusing him whith the Grim Reaper. He is not the Grim Reaper, but I feel he is a test. Whether it's self induced or not, it's still a test.

I have heard one theory once that really shocked me.  I read somewhere that it is your spirit guide.  They appear in a monks robe and faceless so you don't get emotionally attached to them.  It made completely re evaluate my beliefs, because not once did I consider that i could be misinterpreting what I saw.  However, I have a hard time believing that a spirit guide would sit at the end of your bed laughing while you're paralysed and can't move...

No, not the grim reper, that is an aspect of him. It's a Ghedee. Boron Samedi or Papa Ghedee.  :-D

I am not too experienced with consciously induced Astral Projection, however I lucid dream a lot.

I had an experience asleep on the couch when I saw a hooded figure at the end of the couch.  He was following me about my lucid dreams that night.  As soon as it happened the first time, I contemplated it might be death and woke myself up intentionally.

As I drifted off to sleep again, it was straight into a lucid dream, he was on my mind anyway but he appeared as I was in the garden, this time instead of waking up I flew off.

Dipping in and out of lucidity later that evening, I was in a room full of other entities that resembled what I would imagine a room in a space ship to look like.  Some occupants were human looking and some slightly different, but it was a collective.  Now although I was lucid dremaing, I wasn't fully immersed in the scene.  I was being disrespectful to those around me, I won't go into details.  But at that point, the hooded character emerged from a door at the far side of the room.  At this point and with other beings around I had courage.  I decided to do what I had read about and create a bright light around myself and shine it straight at him.  I've heard projecting love can have the same effect.  Anyway, upon doing this his appearance changed, his hood seemed to disappear along with his confidence, he looked shamed and embarrased and disappeared.  I haven't encountered him since.

If you can muster the courage and it happens again, try this again.

The bigm, i can't help but think of the carebears with your carebear stare(white light) at no heart(hooded figure). :-D  My husband started night shift in February and the first two nights when I closed my eyes, I saw a hooded figure either coming at me, or casually walking by.  I wasn't asleep, just he was in my pre dream state.  (i chalked it up to being my nerves over sleeping alone in an empty house) but every time I saw him, it didn't scare me cause immediately after I envisioned my home surrounded my white light and knew it to be true and that was such a comfort.

The other night I had a dream I Was hit with an axe in the leg and knew that it was going to become infected and I was going to die as a result.  i spent a lot of the dream worrying about when I would die and how it would feel and finally had enough and declared i was not going to die from an axe wound...my dream changed!  I wasn't lucid but i liked that my subconcious knew to change my thought pattern.  :).

Hi,
A good move, if you get enough clarity to think you could have healed yourself or changed the event before it occurred.
Its all thoughts and actions per se.
