How many man hours does that take for a skilled professional?

About 2 years.

For a workshop filled to the brim with skilled professionals... sculptors, mould makers, animatronic engineers and designers, foam latex runners, painters and finishers, hair punchers, software deisigners... about 4 months.

Mike is the Supervisor and runs the job using lots of talented people. The title is misleading... but ultimately it is his management skills that oversees it and makes sure the job is done.

It looks like an engineering nightmare... all of those moving parts in such a small area...

It's actually quite big... about a metre from base to the top of the head. Still an engineering nightmare though.

Well... I started off in the creature department on The Mummy Returns and the first Harry Potter movie. Then I moved over to special effects for the rest of the other Potter movies...  now I mainly work on Miniature models, Prop making, concept design and visual effects... especially digital Matte painting. Much fun.
