Hi, sorry, whats DMT? thanks M

It's a mild, short acting hallucinogen. It is present in our bodies naturally in high levels when we are born and when we die. That's all I know and it may not even be correct.

Dimethyltryptamine, or something like that.

It is a substance secreted during sleep and other altered states; certain plants contain high concentrations of it, and can be prepared and combined with other plants which serve as inhibitors of the break down of DMT or some such thing.

It is used as a hallucinatory rite in some South American ceremonies for extended spirtual vision-quests, similar to the use of Peyote in North America.

Whom are you presenting to, and why?

QuoteIt's a mild, short acting hallucinogen.

It depends on the use and circumstances / and how it is prepared; in some regards, it is among the most potent hallucinogens, and the experiences can last nearly for 12 hours or longer.

Here are some nice facts about DMT.

*DMT is released into the foetus at 49 days after conception. It is this that causes the foetus to grow hair, nails, start to dream, determine sex and have a circadian rhythm. The baby essentially becomes 'aware'.

In Tibetan Buddhism it is said in the Book Of The Dead "Baldo Todol" that the the spirit after death continues to wander around in darkness for 49 consecutive days before choosing a new incarnation.

*DMT can't be digested by the stomach alone... it is broken down in the gut by monoamine oxidase (MO) like in the Ayahuasca brew.. Caapi vine is added which contains harmala alkaloids which is an MO inhibitor. For DMT to be orally effective it needs an MO inhibitor. The problem is after ingesting it Bovril, Marmite, Vegemite and some cheeses could potentially kill you.

* trips last from 10 minutes to 1 hour depending on the dosage and form of DMT

* there are no side effects from taking DMT

* Although a subjective experience there is a common element of the DMT trip and it is the Machine Elves.

Yeah that was Terrance McKenna's word... he was always talking about his "machine elves"; I think he was referring to the furiously moving geometric patterns which seem to set DMT experiences aside.

And yes, it can last for under an hour, but that is usually when it is smoked, whereas the native Amazon users who discovered the substance's significance always take it as a sort of tea (ayahuasca), mixed with the Caapi vine that you mention; their experiences often stretch to half a day, because of the inhibition effect of the Caapi.

In my daily pursuits in procrastination, I stumbled across an article about it. I had no idea what it was so I got curious. Something about the brain producing it? I dunno, I'm trying to find it now, but I have no idea how I came across it before. So here's a different random one!

Random page.

Hehe, the "Famous DMT Experiences" examples here are just like OBEs.

I like this quote:

"Literally, you are transported into another f***ing dimension. I don't mean like you feel you're in another dimension, you're in another dimension.

There's f***ing complex geometric patterns moving in synchronies order through the air all around you in three dimensional space. It's like they're arteries, but there isn't blood pumping through them, there's light, pulsating light with no boundaries.

And there's an alien communicating with me who looks sort of like a Tai Buddha, except he's entirely made of energy and there's no outline to him. He's concentrating and telling me not to give into astonishment, relax and try and experience this."
Take to the sky, feeling so alive! Past the clouds to the Milky Way, share our secrets with the starry brigade. The stars surround us like a million fireflies. For once I see infinity... it's in your eyes.

Thanks for the clarification Still. It's now one last thing that I am less ignorant on.

Mixed without the Caapi vine nothing happens. The caapi is required so that it is absorbed by the stomach and not rendered totally useless by the MO's.

Also... I think McKenna is being literal about the elves... if you listen to his audio about them in any case. They seem to actually 'be' as he describes rather than a metaphor for the geometric psychedelics. They are an artefact of a 'breakthrough trip' rather than just a 'trip'. I had several 'breakthrough trips' when I did my own DMT crystal extraction and broke through the geometric pattern stage into totally new territory. I didn't see blue machine elves.. but every flat surface in the kitchen did deconstruct and break up to reveal that between the gaps in them they were held together by entities.  :-D

Still- I'm sure you are right. The one and only time that SWIM smoked some was in a tobacco pipe and SWIM took two tokes.

Swim found that it was a better experience than acid but not as much as much mushrooms. It only lasted for about an hour but it was a very strange and pleasant episode.

Hear is the wiki page on D.M.T. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimethyltryptamine    I am sure there is a lot more on the net. If you want a discussion of first hand use you might make a post on hip .  http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/index.php?   desert rat

Good luck. It's not that difficult. It's all down to patience.

Legally, I can't advise you medically, and the pulse does not promote substance use.

That aside, if you intend to make a DMT concoction, you should read up on the foods and substances you can't ingest before or after your use; also it is ideal to have a "spotter" around to keep an eye on you. People using DMT in various ways don't have as much tendancy to suddenly do dangerous things physically as people on LSD, PCP or other hallucinogens (you will mostly lie down), but it is good to have someone watch over your wellbeing, as it can last a fair while.

Be safe!
