Jerking ruining ap attempts

Hi all, I have been practicing meditation in the afternoons or early evenings most days of the week for many months.   I can now get my body deeply relaxed but my body sometimes jerks or moves.  I am not 100% certain that it is my body jerking.   It could be my inner self that moves. I know it is a common problem.    I will have to keep practicing and hope I will get passed it.    Does this happen to you a lot?   When I practice ap early in the mornings it does not happen.   I usually ap.    I suppose the solution is simple and that is not to practice ap in the afternoons or early evenings.   Whether I succeed or not I will keep trying.   My goal is to ap whenever I want to.

Jerking whilst meditating is a common problem; your body is not used to keeping still for an extended period of time, and as a result you tense your muscles involuntarily. You can see it for yourself if you hold your hand up and try to keep it still - Eventually it will jerk.

The trick I use with meditation is to keep soft, regular movements with your body whilst you meditate, movements that you can do reflexively. This stops your body accidentally jerking, because your body is not kept unnaturally still.

Thanks Gala.   This morning I ap.   I am really happy about that.    I was aware and previously I have not been able to stay out long.   I stayed out quite a while and I was focused.   I was in my room and I could see things clearly.   I went outside and I was flying.   I could feel the wind.   It was a great experience but I did not write it down when the ap ended.    Hours later I do not remember much about it.    I think this will persuade me to write it down when I wake up.   I have been told many times to do it.   I am also going to look at a candle flame every day to help improve my concentration.    If you cannot concentrate you are more likely to miss the ap and you will fall asleep.

Hey even though i am not as experienced as you guys i used to get jerking movements trying to project i solved the problem by relaxing each muscle individually while trying conscious exits i would unknowingly be slightly tensing muscles causing the jerking movements hope it helps :)

My body always jerks twice during my trance.  For me it's a good thing because after each jerk I immediately relax more and the trance goes deeper.  This couldn't work in my favor, though, if I viewed the jerks as a negative.--Then I'd just get annoyed and ruin it.  So maybe try viewing it as a positive and put the jerks to work for you.  :)

Yep, just take it as a speed bump and stay the course!

Soarin12 what great advice may add the positivity to other issues i have during my phasing attempts :D

Yeap, i get the jerking almost every time i meditate, obe.

I used feel them to be interesting yet annoying. After a long while, i figured they are some how caused by my guides- to help keep me from falling into deep sleep. After i decided the jerking was a positive, my APs arrive more so than an evening cat~nap.

For myself, I've found that the jerking movement is usually associated with a brief and extremely unexpected sense of falling... probably you physically feeling an unexpected non-physical sensation of flying or falling.  It's the same kind of jerking movement one makes when you're lying back on a chair and you THINK that the chair is about to fall, so you jerk really quickly in order to "catch yourself".  Exact same thing.

I really don't think there's any way to "stop" this kind of thing from happening... you can only accept it and move on.

Astralsuzy

I agree Xanth, you just have to accept it.

Sudden transiential tactile senses being percieved outside of that expected can cause this. I have entertained this with sound while phasing. A floor that creaks gives rise to a single snapping sound when the heating is on. Its a random event making it unexpected. My favouite is an electronic zing type of sound. It can be changed into speech if the timings within certain limits. Outside of this it can make you jump. Earplugs solved this, they're worth a try.
