Inducing OBE by imagining falling backward on my bed

Had an amazing OBE recently when imagining myself falling backward while in my bed. I'm not sure why I did this or why it worked, but it really worked well.

Then later, I read a post on this forum where someone described using this method for OBE and that got me even more interested. Now I'm anxious to try it again. Anyone else have experience, information and/or techniques they could share?

Your technique sounds great.   Anything will work when you are in the meditative state.   Do not do what I do.   I move my leg around but it feels very real just like my physical leg so I mess it up.  I realise it was my spiritual leg that I was moving.    I have done similar things like that before.   Hopefully I will stop doing that.

I can see why you have the problem with your leg, the whole experience can be confusing and is really difficult to wrap your head around.

In this OBE, I had a super intense falling/floating sensation and a flood of really good feelings, but the sensation of separating from your body is also disorienting and I am still working on getting used to it. I ended up popping back out of it because it was so was too disorienting. I'm disappointed in myself but oh well, always next time.

Main thing to do is focus on getting the experience. Too many focus on small steps we call signposts, these are along the road and serve as an indicator only. They are not the destination. You must also let go of the physical, focus on the experience and ignore the physical totally. It's on autopilot and totally safe.

You are using a tactile approach, the FEELING of falling backward or any other direction is useful. It helps, others too, to imagine a scene around the feeling. The good old rollercoaster being a common one.    Falling backwards I've used many years ago and created a cliff hundreds of miles high, imagined falling faster each second and created the scene of clouds way below me. Eventually the scene became so real and I joined with it as it surrounded me. I was off flying after this and landed in a secluded spot outside a city. The experience continued from there.

Thanks for the useful information, going to try the cliff idea next time. I have had some pretty amazing OBEs already so hoping to use this method to help.

My experience so far has been that we have the awareness of the physical when OBE, but it's hard sometimes not to get too focused on it. Maintain the awareness, but let go of the physical world at the same time. It's really quite an amazing thing.

It works because you're using "motion" or "movement" in your visualizations.  I've found this seems to trigger the projection-reflex much easier than other kinds of visualizations... at least within myself.

Finding a visualization that promotes "movement" of some kind really helps with keeping focus.

Yep, there's nothing like the Rollercoaster. Twisting around those turns at breakneck speeds. Spinning upside down defying gravity Plunging down the highest hills like a run away train!  :-)

Bringing back those old memories that are easy to re-create!

I do not have a problem with my leg.   If I had realised I was spiritually moving my leg I would have got the rest of myself out of my body.   That is the frustrating part.   Falling backwards could be good.   I would imagine when you are falling backwards you are relaxing yourself every time you do it making it easier to ap.   So long as you do not get afraid falling backwards.   If you do that could wreck it.   Try not to get disappointed when things do not work out well.   I have my days when it does not work out as well.   I try to learn from it so I can improve the next time it happens.   When you are disoriented try saying, awareness now.   That might solve your problem.

Any of these 66 techniques can work. Most of them are based on some kind of NP motion or movement.

During the day you can take brief "timeouts" from the physical to practice things like this as well. We don't just have to do this when we are attempting to AP. I find that daily practice turns to "automatic success". It may take a few weeks to get good at it, but one day you will just briefly close your eyes and all of a sudden undergo a shift.

Every day I create a type of Tetahedron around me. At first this was very hard to do. I would close my eyes, but couldn't really see the points or any area of focus for that matter.

I start by standing facing North. My East point signifies the Sun rising. In back of me to the South signifies the flame. To the West of me signifies water and lastly to the North of me Earth. Spirit is the points below my feet and above my head and that's what I use to "activate" or rotate my Tetrahedron. One time after many weeks of doing this, I just closed my eyes and saw that I could see that Sun, the flame rising, the water flowing and the grass, trees and flowers in front of me, as vividly as I experience them here in this Physical Realm.

Once again, I know many of you are going to say/think that this is totally unnecessary. But it works!

That is the main thing, finding and doing what works for you.

Wondering if any of you have intense, strange (don't know what to call them) feelings when you start to experience separation from the physical? When I have an OBE, I feel this strong sense of separation going on, maybe that's just my imagination or something. I really have to let go at that point. Personally, I think we are always OBE, but it's just the awareness of it that is not always there.

The problem with my falling backward exercise was that what happened next was totally unexpected. It's like sudden acceleration or something, such a rush of energy and feels like moving fast, maybe that's part of why the motion exercises work. Next time I'll be more prepared.

Anyway, just my thoughts on it.

These sensations, known as "signposts" occur as we are turning to a NP focus. If we stayed awake consciously every night as we fell into sleep, we would experience them as well.

Try it, you will see what I mean. You must pick a day though when you know you don't a) have to work the next day, b) have to go to School or c) don't need your mental faculties to be strong the next day. It does mess up your normal sleep cycle, that's why I added those disclaimers!

If you are referring to the conscious dream state, yes I have done it many times and try almost every night. Had some absolutely amazing experiences there. In fact the experience I had falling backward was during a WILD attempt, right at the entry point. Not too long after that I was awake somewhere, flying around trying to pick up various people to take them for a ride. None wanted to go, but I finally did get one to come along. Ended up crash landing after attempting to flip over and fly upside down while carrying this woman.

I need to get back to that point and try this again. All this talk about it is making me hungry for more! :-)

Then it has served it's purpose!

I tried the rollercoaster off a cliff last night. It worked well as always. Got through the clouds and ended up somewhere else being given some info on another persons project. Strange switch but fun.
